- Hey, y'all, it's Troy at The Lady and Sons.
0:02
We're gonna make some drinks for you guys for Memorial Day.
0:06
It's a favorite holiday of mine.
0:08
It's not as celebrated as it could,
0:10
but here in Savannah, we love our veterans.
0:13
We love the people who have fought hard
0:16
and the lives lost for this country
0:18
so that we can have what we have every single day.
0:21
So summertime, spring,
0:25
a mojito is what comes to my mind.
0:27
We use a prickly pear for our slushies,
0:33
and one of our ladies in the retail store gave me this idea.
0:37
She said, "I had this drink in Scottsdale, Arizona.
0:41
It was the best thing, you need to get prickly pear."
0:44
So we did it and it is phenomenal.
0:47
So we're gonna make a prickly pear mojito.
0:49
We have a local rum here, it's called at Atomica.
0:53
It's made by the same people who make Southbound.
0:56
They make vodka, they make a dark rum, white rum,
0:58
and I believe they're getting into the bourbon.
1:01
Then it's gonna take a little while
1:02
for all that stuff to develop.
1:03
So we also have had a lot of calling
1:09
for a non-alcoholic version of these drinks,
1:11
so we're gonna have a non-alcoholic version of this drink
1:14
available for you guys to make.
1:16
So we like everything in mason jars here in Savannah,
1:21
so we're gonna take our mint and then our muddler,
1:26
so we're gonna grind this mint up just a little bit.
1:40
then we're gonna squeeze half a lime.
1:43
All right, we're gonna take, fill our glass with ice.
1:51
- [Videographer] Troy, where do you get muddlers?
1:53
- So we buy them through our food distributors.
1:56
You can get 'em on Amazon, anything like that.
1:58
They're cheap, like for five bucks or less, you can get one.
2:01
So if you use a lot of mint, herbs,
2:05
it does really well for it.
2:06
- [Videographer] It breaks it up, right?
2:07
Is that what it does?
2:08
- It expresses the oil,
2:09
it does tear the leaves a little bit,
2:12
but it's kinda like when you rub a leaf
2:15
and you get that sheen on the outside,
2:18
it produces that mint oil that really makes your drink pop.
2:23
So we're gonna do two ounces of prickly pear,
2:29
and you want this drink to have some color to it.
2:32
And then, we're gonna do an ounce and a half of our rum.
2:39
And if you want to do this without alcohol,
2:42
you can do it with soda water or Sprite.
2:44
Sprite's gonna be a little bit sweeter,
2:46
but some people like that.
2:47
If you want something a little healthier, soda water.
2:50
We're gonna use soda water for the drink itself,
2:55
just because we don't want it to be so sweet,
3:00
and then you can just use a spoon, bar spoon,
3:02
you can, anything like that,
3:05
but you're gonna have that light pink color
3:09
and that unique flavor of the prickly pear.
3:13
So happy Memorial Day, y'all.
