- Y'all, it is summertime here in Savannah, Georgia.
0:04
The flowers are just going crazy.
0:08
The azaleas are probably about gone
0:09
here in town, aren't they?
0:11
Because they, they really bloomed early this year.
0:14
But if y'all watched the Bonaventure video
0:18
you got to see 'em in in that video
0:21
because Bonaventure is known for
0:24
the beautiful azaleas throughout the whole cemetery.
0:28
I have got a recipe that belongs to my boys, my sons,
0:36
and I think it's just a neat version of meat loaves
0:42
because they like to make theirs in muffin tins.
0:45
You know, it's just easier for their children.
0:48
And it's a simple recipe,
0:51
which is another thing I love about it.
0:53
We're gonna start with onions.
0:58
Now, if you got children that don't like onions
1:00
you can always slip in a onion powder,
1:04
or the dried minced onions,
1:06
and they'll never know.
1:08
Alright, so salt, thyme,
1:33
If for some reason you don't like Dijon,
1:35
you can always do a regular.
1:53
Our chickens are starting to lay eggs again.
1:58
You know, during the winter,
1:59
they just don't like being cold,
2:07
And it was almost like turning on the light switch
2:11
All sudden one morning.
2:15
They realized, "Oh, I'm supposed to be
2:17
"laying eggs for these folks."
2:22
Okay, I'm just gonna beat those a little
2:26
before I add them to the other ingredients.
2:33
Japanese breadcrumbs.
2:38
And I think it just calls for
2:40
like one and a half pounds of ground beef,
2:42
so it's not a whole bunch.
2:46
And we need a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce.
2:59
That's not very much.
3:02
Worcestershire sauce is not one of
3:04
my favorite things to use,
3:07
but I do love soy sauce.
3:15
Can't miss the garlic, y'all.
3:28
So they tell me to place this firmly
3:37
into the muffin tins,
3:39
and I sprayed 'em real good
3:40
because I don't wanna have
3:45
a chopped up mess when I get through.
3:48
And I don't know if I'm putting maybe too much.
3:51
I don't think I am though.
3:53
'Cause these are gonna shrink, right guys?
3:57
And, they tell me that it makes 12.
4:07
My children were right on the money.
4:11
I was a little heavy handed on some of 'em
4:15
when I first started.
4:18
So I'll just fix that right now.
4:22
Pat those in there good.
4:25
We're gonna put 'em in the oven, 350 for 20 or 25 minutes,
4:32
but I'm gonna go ahead now,
4:33
while those are cooking,
4:35
and I'm gonna make our glaze,
4:37
our sauce that's gonna go on top of 'em.
4:40
Y'all, I screwed up on my children's recipe.
4:43
All the ingredients were up here,
4:45
even the ingredients for the glaze,
4:47
well it all went into the meat loaf.
4:50
So I'm gonna have to make a separate glaze.
4:55
It's three tablespoons of Dijon.
5:02
Makes three. (laughs)
5:06
And then the same amount of ketchup.
5:23
And a teaspoon of Worcestershire.
5:26
Oh, is this a grip bottle?
5:30
Now, that's it for their recipe.
5:34
Well, I make, I make a topping for my meat loaves,
5:40
but it also has brown sugar in it.
5:47
Oh gosh, that's so good.
5:49
That is so good just like that.
5:56
The angel says "Keep it this way."
5:57
The devil says "Add that brown sugar, mama." (laughs)
6:10
When the 20 minutes is up I will brush it with this.
6:15
- [Theresa] The angel won?
6:18
- It ain't over til the fat lady sings.
6:20
(Paula and Theresa laugh)
6:22
That was the 20 minute mark for these.
6:25
I'm just gonna take 'em out,
6:27
and we're gonna brush 'em with the sauce.
6:33
And right now the angel is ahead,
6:37
but the devil, he ain't left the building yet.
6:41
Okay, y'all, so this is what I'm gonna do.
6:45
I'm gonna, the angel is gonna follow the directions.
6:53
Swab that on there good.
6:57
Kind of thick, so to me it's more than just a glaze,
7:03
really like a frosting.
7:08
And this is good just like this.
7:14
Look, I even got my boys' dish towels
7:20
This is in honor of those two sweet boys.
7:24
Now, I got a little bit left. (laughs)
7:29
So, I'm gonna come in here.
7:34
Oh, I put a piece of bread in my brown sugar.
7:41
This will keep it from clumping up.
7:44
So I'm gonna put maybe that much sugar.
7:56
So the devil and angel is compromising.
8:09
We'll just see which way we like it best.
8:19
The devil's onto something. (laughs)
8:23
Okay, so back in the oven it goes
8:25
for 10 more minutes y'all.
8:27
The meat loaf is cool enough for me to handle
8:33
without setting fire to me.
8:36
Okay, that's the original sauce.
8:41
This is the one I added brown sugar to.
8:45
And, to be honest, I think I could have
8:48
added even a little bit more brown sugar.
8:53
So, you can see the one with brown sugar,
8:58
So, I'm gonna cut off a little bite of that.
9:18
Cut off a little bite of that.
9:30
I like it with a touch of sweet.
9:35
But it's not for everybody,
9:38
so you can do was you please.
9:42
But a little sweetness, really good.
9:47
So I appreciate all of my sons' contributions.
9:53
They're sweet, talented boys.
9:56
So thank you boys for sharing this with us.
