0:00
- Hey everybody, it's Bobby here
0:01
and I've got one for the kids today.
0:04
This one is gonna be so much fun.
0:07
Y'know, what kid doesn't love s'mores,
0:09
or adult for that matter?
0:11
I like s'mores myself.
0:12
S'mores are fun, they're interactive.
0:14
When your kids are small
0:15
and you're teaching 'em how to cook,
0:17
it's just a great sort of introduction to making food.
0:20
And plus, chocolate and marshmallows?
0:23
that's a home run for almost every kid.
0:25
But today, we're gonna do something
0:26
just a little bit different.
0:28
My children are a little bit young yet to, ...
0:31
I'm not having 'em put the marshmallows
0:33
over an open fire and stuff like that.
0:35
We're sort of staying back from that.
0:37
So I've got a different technique
0:40
for making s'mores today,
0:41
and it starts with these really awesome
0:44
little cast iron skillets.
0:45
And these are, ... (hand slaps)
0:46
I mean, they really are, ...
0:48
These are cast iron, not hard to find.
0:51
If you've got a kitchen store near you
0:53
or if you've got an Amazon (chuckles) account,
0:55
you could probably find them there.
0:58
But they're just great looking little skillets
1:03
and they're perfect for this.
1:05
It doesn't get much simpler,
1:07
it's just chocolate and marshmallows.
1:09
So in each skillet, ...
1:10
And I know you're wondering,
1:11
well, how's he gonna melt these?
1:15
And that's gonna be the interesting part.
1:18
There are different ways, of course.
1:21
What you could do too now,
1:24
if you did have a gross of these skillets,
1:28
you could prep 'em at home, right?
1:30
So you could go ahead
1:31
and do the part that I'm doing right now,
1:32
go ahead and load 'em up with chocolate
1:34
and with marshmallows.
1:36
And you could put them in some sort of in a to-go,
1:43
a cooler or what have you,
1:45
and take it on your camping trip
1:47
and put these over an open fire.
1:49
You could do 'em over on a grill.
1:53
Set 'em on the grill grates for a couple of minutes.
1:55
These don't take very long,
1:56
all you gotta do is melt the chocolate
1:58
and the marshmallows together.
2:00
And we have a fire pit out back,
2:02
got a grate that you can put on top of it.
2:04
I keep the kids back,
2:06
but you could do these on a fire pit or grill,
2:08
or, like I'm gonna do 'em today, in the oven.
2:12
So I've used your classic,
2:16
it's the brand of chocolate that you think it is. (laughs)
2:22
I could just stand around ...
2:24
I don't really have a sweet tooth,
2:26
but the one thing that I really do like is chocolate,
2:30
and I could stand around and eat those chocolate bars
2:32
'til the cows come home.
2:35
So chocolate and a little handful of marshmallows
2:37
right on top, and try to make sure
2:40
that the whole bottom of the skillet
2:42
is covered with chocolate so those sticky marshmallows
2:45
don't end up on the bottom.
2:48
Or a few, however many you want.
2:51
And this part too, my kids are at school right now,
2:55
but whenever they come home
2:56
and they see that dad has made a few of these
2:58
and got 'em sitting up on the stove top,
3:00
they will be so happy, and they will be ready to talk to me
3:05
about everything that happened at school
3:08
and at gymnastics and at swim lessons
3:13
and at karate or whatever it is they're doing today.
3:19
So however many marshmallows you want to put on there,
3:23
If you like more, put more.
3:25
If you like less, put less.
3:28
I'm gonna go with more,
3:30
'cause I know that my kids love marshmallows.
3:34
That's why I don't have marshmallows
3:36
hanging around the house! (laughs)
3:39
Gotta be a treat, man.
3:41
Can't have all this stuff all the time.
3:45
You'll drink your water and you'll like it!
3:50
Nah, sometimes you gotta have some s'mores.
3:52
You gotta celebrate life, you know?
3:55
It doesn't last forever.
3:58
Okay, so I've got my oven at 350.
4:07
I'm gonna pop these skillets in there.
4:12
Make sure those handles are sticking out,
4:13
so I've got a place to grab.
4:22
And I think maybe three to five minutes
4:24
is perfect amount of time,
4:25
so we'll take a short break and I'll see you back here.
4:28
Wow, they look fantastic!
4:31
And I don't use the word cute every day,
4:35
And you know what, it goes along with, um ...
4:38
We're closing in on Halloween.
4:44
this is what's happening at this time of year.
4:47
This is why I look forward to this time of year too,
4:49
is, you know, you can make your chili,
4:52
you can make your s'mores,
4:54
you can do your real comfort foods at home
4:58
and not feel bad about 'em,
4:59
because it just feels right with this time of year.
5:03
When you go outside and the leaves are falling
5:05
and there's a crispness in the air and it's just, you know,
5:10
this is just right for this time of year.
5:13
And if you got little kids, man, you're gonna be a hero.
5:16
Don't forget, these are super hot,
5:17
so don't grab those handles.
5:19
(laughs) I was telling Theresa earlier
5:22
about a colossal mistake I made one night.
5:25
I like to do steaks in a skillet
5:28
and I made a beautiful steak in skillet.
5:30
'cause we were renovating the house next door.
5:32
And I cooked a steak in the cast iron skillet in that oven
5:35
and I pulled it out and put it up on the stove top,
5:38
and I came over a few minutes later and, man,
5:40
I grabbed that cast iron skillet
5:42
with a bare hand and turned around to bring it over here
5:45
and I made it all the way over here!
5:51
Boy, did I have a blister.
5:53
Okay, so, got one little gap right over there.
5:57
That one doesn't look perfect,
5:58
but gosh, don't these look great?
6:00
- [Theresa] I don't think anybody will ever notice that gap.
6:02
- [Bobby] Mm-hmm, no.
6:04
- [Theresa] I know three little triplets
6:05
that are going to be in hog heaven ...
6:06
- Yeah, they will ...
6:08
- [Theresa] When they get home from school.
6:09
- Absolutely love this.
6:10
So, wouldn't be complete without a graham cracker.
6:16
Oh Theresa, I hear you swallowing!
6:20
- [Theresa] It's hard not to swallow with chocolate ...
6:23
- [Theresa] And marshmallows.
6:24
And look how brown they are!
6:27
- So that was about six minutes.
6:30
They could have maybe stayed in there another minute longer.
6:32
- [Theresa] You could even maybe put
6:33
the chocolate in first and let it, ...
6:36
- [Theresa] (chuckles) Well, you could put
6:37
the little chocolates in and let them melt up,
6:39
- and then put the ... - Mm-hmm. (munches)
6:40
- [Theresa] You know, you find things you do different,
6:42
as your mom always says.
6:49
- [Theresa] It looks good to me though.
6:53
You could put the chocolate in first and then come back
6:57
in a couple of minutes with the marshmallows.
7:01
The marshmallows look wonderful.
7:04
It's a fall type item.
7:06
It's great for kids, or for friends.
7:09
If you're having a get together at your house
7:10
to have a bunch of these out
7:11
as little welcome gifts when people walk in the door,
7:16
on the countertop, obviously, would be great.
7:19
So anyhow, s'mores in a small cast iron skillet,
7:22
not hard to find the cast iron skillet,
7:24
in the oven or over your fire pit or on your grill.
7:28
Or if you're camping, make 'em in advance
7:31
and take 'em with you at the campsite.
7:33
Any way you do it, you'll have a great time
7:35
and definitely your kids will love 'em,
7:36
but so too will the adults.
7:38
So, happy fall, y'all!
