0:00
- So I got company in the kitchen right now
0:03
and I told them to talk amongst themselves
0:07
because I love hearing people talking
0:10
even if I'm filming, unless it's like children screaming
0:14
or something like that.
0:15
But you know, these are mature adults,
0:17
I think they know the difference
0:18
between screaming and talking.
0:20
(Paula laughing) - I am a mature adult.
0:23
- Well I got half of it right.
0:24
Grown part, didn't I? - Yeah.
0:27
- Didn't I, Paul? (Paula laughing)
0:29
All right, so my Aunt Glenys
0:33
used to make what she called blondies and they're so good.
0:40
But I've got a twist on her blondie recipe for today.
0:44
You know, the big game is coming up soon
0:47
and for people that are not big drinkers,
0:51
you're gonna wanna have something sweet
0:52
and easy for them to grab.
0:54
So I have taken my Aunt Glenys' recipe for blondies
1:01
and I have added some rum, some real rum, and raisins.
1:07
And I have soaked this for about an hour
1:11
and a half in that rum
1:13
because that's gonna make 'em plump, plump.
1:16
That was a half a cup of dark rum
1:21
to one cup of raisins, right, Theresa?
1:24
- [Theresa] That's correct.
1:29
I got a cup of melted butter.
1:31
And the first thing I'm gonna do, this is real easy.
1:35
I'm not even have to pull out a mixer for this y'all.
1:38
So this is gonna be quick and easy.
1:40
I've got two cups of packed brown sugar
1:44
and it really was packed, wasn't it?
1:45
(Paula laughing) And I'm gonna add my eggs.
1:54
Not right now, I'm gonna add my butter next.
1:57
It's been a while since I've made any blondies
2:04
You know, Aunt Glenys' blondies that I used to make a lot.
2:11
So just gonna add that melted butter
2:21
I love recipes like this
2:22
that don't have to pull out a mixer,
2:26
although a friend of mine has a handy dandy drill
2:33
that I bet he's already packed up, hasn't he?
2:46
Okay, so we got those mixed up together real good.
2:49
Now we're gonna add our eggs. (eggs beating)
2:53
And that's two beaten eggs.
2:59
And we're gonna bake this in a 13 by 9, y'all.
3:05
And this is called a rum raisin blondie,
3:09
not brownie, we blonde.
3:15
I like to refer to myself as God's blonde.
3:29
There was some hard chunks in this brown sugar.
3:31
And while I got this on my head and thinking about it,
3:37
if you'll put a slice of bread
3:39
in whatever container you're storing your brown sugar in,
3:42
that will keep it soft and pliable.
3:46
That's just a little tip.
3:49
All right, so I've got baking powder,
3:55
that I'm gonna add to our plain flour.
4:03
Just gonna mix those together, stir that together.
4:08
And it doesn't call for salt,
4:10
but I just like a little about a half a teaspoon of salt
4:18
'cause I like a little salt in my sweets.
4:24
So I'm gonna add the flour to my wet.
4:36
I'm going to add a tablespoon of vanilla.
4:42
You know what, you could use a rum extract
4:49
if you wanted to really kick up the flavor of the rum.
4:54
That looks like it's about out.
4:57
Whoa, it is out, look at that vanilla bean that fell out.
5:07
So I got to get busy making some more vanilla.
5:15
So we're just gonna get this beat up
5:17
and then we are gonna add our raisins
5:21
and if there's any of the rum that is in the bottom,
5:30
We got our dry and our wet mixed together,
5:33
now I'm gonna fold in our rum soaked raisins
5:45
and I'm gonna add a cup of walnuts.
5:49
And these have been roasted, toasted.
5:51
You don't have to do that unless you want to.
5:54
The roasting just brings out
5:55
a little more flavor in your nuts,
5:59
but I like a nut anywhere I can get it.
6:07
So see how easy that is.
6:08
And I love not having to pull out a mixer
6:24
So depending on the thickness
6:27
that you want your blondie to be
6:31
will determine the size of your pan.
6:34
With us using a 13 by 9,
6:39
they're not gonna be real, real thick.
6:45
But that's strictly up to you,
6:47
you would have to readjust your cooking time.
6:54
You know, personally, I like 'em kind of thick but.
7:13
Just gonna press those down, down and out.
7:27
Am I missing any good conversation over there?
7:30
- Just buzz. - Oh, hate I'm missing gossip.
7:39
Unless it's some kind of hurting gossip that hurts people.
7:45
Okay, that looks pretty even, doesn't it?
7:50
All right, in the oven, this goes, 350
8:04
or until they're done to your likeness.
8:12
These blondies are still a little hot, y'all.
8:22
And they actually need to cool, but they're so good.
8:41
I love those plump raisins.
8:45
And by soaking it in that rum, y'all,
8:48
that alouted them, that alouted them, is that a word?
8:53
(Paula laughing) To get plump.
9:01
A nice quick, something sweet to serve your guest,
9:14
Bring back memories of Aunt Glenys and Uncle Bernie's house
9:21
Hmm, we had so much fun.
9:27
So if you've ever made the regular brownie,
9:31
I think you'll like this one almost just as much.
9:33
Especially if you like raisins and nuts,
9:38
which I like both of those.
9:42
So if you're getting ready for that big game,
9:46
this is a good one, y'all.
9:49
My line's not so straight,
9:54
but that's all right, they'll eat anyway.
9:57
Love and best dishes, y'all.
