0:01
It's Jamie Deen and Theresa's found me
0:02
back in the chicken box.
0:04
Now this is the month of January,
0:07
February, the big game's coming up.
0:10
So it's beard season, it's football season.
0:13
That means tailgating season.
0:15
And today Theresa's brought to us
0:18
a fresh salsa that we're gonna make.
0:20
Now, if y'all hadn't made, salsa's one of the easier things
0:22
that you can make at house and what I love the most about it
0:25
is you can make it the way that you like it.
0:28
So today, Theresa knows I don't really like cilantro,
0:31
so she's gotten me parsley instead.
0:33
'Cause you're gonna need some green leafs in there
0:35
to give it the salsa look.
0:37
But if you don't like cilantro, you can use French parsley
0:39
or fresh American parsley.
0:42
I love pineapple sauces.
0:44
So this recipe, you can add pineapples to.
0:46
You can make it as hot as you like.
0:48
You can use, you can roast your tomatoes.
0:50
There's a million different things.
0:52
We're gonna start super simple today, this recipe,
0:55
and you'll see when y'all start looking at it,
0:56
calls for two pounds of tomatoes,
1:00
I really don't need two pounds of salsa down here.
1:03
So I'm just starting with four tomatoes.
1:05
I'm gonna give these just a rough cut.
1:08
It doesn't have to be all the same size.
1:12
None of that matters here 'cause it's just a sauce.
1:17
I like mine a little bit chunkier.
1:20
So we've got our tomatoes in here.
1:22
We've got one small onion
1:24
that we're gonna dice really quick and put in here.
1:28
So with the big game coming up, you know,
1:30
Bobby and I have done a lot of different recipes
1:34
through the years, specifically for tailgating,
1:37
and football and spending time with your family.
1:39
And this also is a recipe that will be good for you
1:43
on that day, on game day.
1:45
But this is also a multi-use.
1:47
You can keep this in your refrigerator
1:50
up to a week in a container.
1:52
It'd go great with your breakfast.
1:54
You can put it on your eggs, put it on your steak.
1:58
You can add avocado to your fresh salsa
2:00
and put it on top of a piece of fish.
2:03
All of these fresh flavors can translate
2:06
to a lot of different dishes.
2:08
But on this particular Sunday,
2:10
we're gonna put 'em on chips.
2:12
Got my tomatoes, I've got my onion.
2:14
You gotta have fresh lime.
2:18
If y'all have seen me on TV
2:20
or in these videos, you know,
2:23
I say zest is like sunshine.
2:26
Whether you're using it from an orange or a lemon
2:29
or like we're doing today, a lime.
2:32
So much flavor in the outside, not a lot of juice
2:36
we're gonna add to this.
2:37
So we're gonna have the juice from our tomatoes
2:40
and we're also gonna juice this one lime.
2:47
We've got some garlic that we're gonna put in here.
2:49
One of my favorite things is that Theresa brings me
2:51
all kind of tools that I've never used before.
2:54
So we're gonna use this one today and see how it works.
2:57
As you can tell, I'm prolific at this.
3:01
Okay, now we can only do one at a time.
3:03
I said, "Theresa, what is this?"
3:05
She said, "Oh, it's a garlic press."
3:08
I said, "Well, I'm just used to using a knife."
3:11
Well, yeah, that's one way to do it.
3:13
But then you got all that stuff down there.
3:15
Might be easier just to do it on the cutting board, y'all.
3:19
Get our garlic in there.
3:22
I'm just gonna take the tips off this parsley.
3:34
Some salt, some pepper.
3:43
The light here at the chicken box isn't that good.
3:45
The food is delicious, but the lighting is tough.
3:52
Simple, simple, simple, robust, big, natural flavors.
3:58
So easy. And it really makes a big difference.
4:00
- [Theresa] How about that one lost jalapeno?
4:01
- Oh yeah, yeah. Sorry Theresa.
4:05
I keep Theresa very busy.
4:07
Now with your peppers.
4:11
Do y'all want all these seeds in there? Are you brave?
4:15
I'm not. I'm gonna seed this.
4:18
I'm gonna take these out.
4:23
One or two I can live with,
4:25
that whole big glob, woof,
4:27
my tummy would be on fire.
4:34
Chop this up pretty fine.
4:39
If I was doing this at the house,
4:41
I believe I would roast this jalapeno.
4:44
This is just more fun to say with roasted jalapenos.
4:49
you could put, you know, sweet bell pepper in here.
4:52
Think about all the sauces you've ever had,
4:55
and just start adding stuff.
5:07
That's pretty. Put it in here so we can see it.
5:17
Now this can go in your refrigerator for up to a week,
5:21
then you'll be good to go.
5:22
You can carry it to your friend's house
5:24
so you can have your party at your house.
5:26
The only thing this is missing is a chip
5:39
The lime is my favorite part, I love the lime in here.
5:45
This is going home with me.
5:48
And tomorrow I'm making an omelet
5:50
and I'm gonna put this inside of my omelet.
5:52
Anything you can think of for your sauce is a good thing.
5:54
Don't forget to save some for the big game though.
5:57
Go team, go y'all, go me.
6:00
Thanks for tuning in y'all.
6:01
I'm Jamie Deen, I'll see you around the kitchen.
