0:00
- Hey y'all, guess what time it is.
0:04
Yesterday was the first day of spring,
0:08
and y'all know what that means,
0:09
it means warm weather, hot weather, and homemade ice cream.
0:17
you can find some mighty good ice creams
0:21
at the grocery store.
0:23
My personal favorite is Blue Bell,
0:26
I love the homemade vanilla Blue Bell.
0:29
So I'm just as happy to eat that.
0:33
- [Cameraperson] Someone sent me a message.
0:34
What'd they say? - One of your viewers,
0:39
he said Blue Bell has Ooey Gooey Butter Cake.
0:43
- No, you don't mean it. - It just came up.
0:46
- You do not mean it. They didn't contact me.
0:49
(Cameraperson laughs)
0:49
Blue Bell, how come you didn't contact me
0:51
to work with me on that one?
0:55
So anyway, all of my grandchildren love raspberries,
0:59
so I'm gonna show you how to make a quick raspberry sauce
1:05
for that delicious ice cream,
1:07
whether it be store-bought or homemade.
1:10
And I'm gonna start with three fourths of a cup.
1:14
Alright, that's a fourth,
1:30
So I'm gonna have to get that raspberry off my hands,
1:33
or it's gonna look like I've had my hands in red dye.
1:40
Alright, now I'm gonna add,
1:45
these are comparable in flavor,
1:48
this is a red currant jelly that I'm gonna add.
1:56
I'm going to heat that up,
1:59
and that will cook the raspberries a little bit
2:02
and melt that wonderful jelly.
2:19
Raspberries are supposed to be real good for you,
2:21
I wonder if they're real good for you like this.
2:27
They sure do taste good.
2:28
So I'm gonna toss rest of my raspberries with corn starch,
2:33
and that's gonna thicken our sauce.
2:38
Alright, now we are going to add the rest
2:42
of our fresh raspberries
2:44
that's been coated in the corn starch,
2:48
and that's gonna make this thicken up real good.
2:55
And when we take it off the heat,
2:58
we're gonna stir in just a tad of butter
3:01
and we're gonna let that cool.
3:04
And then we're gonna add three fourths of a cup
3:06
of orange juice to it.
3:08
Now remember, you're gonna want to stir this constantly,
3:11
because we put the thickening agent in there
3:14
and we don't want it to stick or scorch,
3:18
so we're gonna stir this constantly
3:20
while that's thickening up.
3:23
Okay, y'all, that's got nice and thick,
3:26
I'm gonna turn off the heat
3:27
and I'm going to add like a tablespoon of butter.
3:33
Then I'm gonna put this to the side and let it cool,
3:38
and then we're gonna add our orange juice,
3:41
and it's gonna be so good.
3:44
Our raspberry sauce is coming along,
3:47
It's cooled off enough, I mean, it's really cooled off good.
3:52
So at this point, we're supposed to add our orange juice,
3:55
and I think if memory serves me right,
3:58
it was three quarters of a cup.
4:02
Now, before I added the juice, the orange juice,
4:05
it was very, very tart.
4:12
So I've told y'all many times,
4:16
my own recipes, I change all the time.
4:25
So if this still tastes overly tart to me,
4:33
I'm gonna melt some sugar and put in it.
4:51
It's good, but it's tart,
4:53
and I can only imagine how good it would be
4:56
on a bowl of vanilla ice cream.
4:58
Okay, they think it's good.
5:01
- [Crew Person] You don't.
5:02
- So with that, I'm gonna add one tablespoon of sugar
5:04
to my orange juice. (chuckles)
5:08
So like I said, this is totally optional,
5:12
so you may wanna taste it like it is
5:18
before you do what I'm doing.
5:23
And I'm gonna add one tablespoon of sugar.
5:28
I'm gonna put this in the microwave
5:34
Okay, friends, I did it,
5:40
I added one tablespoon of sugar,
5:44
and I heated that up for like 30 seconds.
6:00
You know, it really is,
6:01
recipes are always about fitting in with your palette.
6:12
So just because the recipe says do this, do that,
6:17
if that is not agreeable to your palette, don't do it.
6:29
That's better, to me.
6:31
So back in the refrigerator,
6:33
then we gonna bust out the ice cream.
6:37
The favorite part of my recipes that I do,
6:42
I love it when it's time to do the tasting, y'all.
6:48
I added a couple of tablespoons of sugar to that
6:53
because it was very, very tart.
6:56
And this looks so pretty, I'm serving it
6:58
outta my grandmother Hiers' depression glass.
7:06
those of y'all that has never been told a story,
7:12
back years and years and years ago,
7:13
when you go to the gas station and get so much glass,
7:21
that they would give you something,
7:23
and quite often it was depression glass.
7:26
and when you bought big flat sacks of flour,
7:31
there would be a gift in there,
7:34
and quite often that could be depression glass in there too.
7:39
So here's to a wonderful raspberry sauce,
7:46
and my grandmothers and y'all.
7:54
It's so good, I am glad that I added
7:58
just a little bit of sugar to cut that tartness some.
8:03
But with that sweet ice cream, it's like just right.
8:09
