- I've made a lot of dishes in the past that, you know,
0:04
are fattening, more fattening than others,
0:09
you know, and it's, what are you laughing about?
0:14
So it's up to you to control that.
0:17
But I did want to make something that's a little lighter,
0:21
and it's called a grab and go bar.
0:25
And it is a little bit healthier than some
0:28
of the bars you can do out there.
0:30
And I'm starting with a cereal, a puffed cereal
0:35
that is not sweetened,
0:37
no dyes or anything on it, just a puff cereal.
0:40
I've got sliced almonds,
0:47
I think these are cranberry raisins, they're kinda red.
0:51
And then I've got a powdered milk.
0:57
And chopped apricots.
1:03
and match different dried fruits to this, whatever you want.
1:07
And you just wanna mix that up
1:09
with your hands just like that.
1:13
Now I got a sauce pan over here waiting on us
1:16
that I'm gonna put that on a low temperature
1:20
and I am gonna mix our maple syrup.
1:28
And you know, Michael and I,
1:34
or let me say Paula prefers sugar free syrup.
1:40
I can have all the syrup I want for like 10 calories
1:46
All right, so I'm gonna add
1:47
just a little bit of brown sugar.
1:50
Whoa, slippery hands.
1:52
I'm gonna add about two tablespoons of peanut butter.
1:58
And I'm just gonna put this, like I said,
2:04
I'm gonna put this like I said, over low heat.
2:09
And I'm just gonna mix this together
2:11
until the peanut butter melts.
2:21
And that's not gonna take long.
2:25
And the directions call for use of a eight by eight pan
2:30
and let your parchment paper
2:33
and I tell you to spray your parchment paper
2:37
so it won't stick, but you wanna leave a handle.
2:40
So after we bake this, we can just lift it right out
2:46
Okay, see this not gonna take but a minute.
2:56
And then we gonna come over here
2:57
and we gonna stir this into our dry ingredients.
3:08
So that smells really, really good.
3:12
(offscreen speaker speaks indistinctly)
3:21
And you going to need to work kind of quickly with this.
3:27
Snap crackle and pop I hear.
3:45
All righty. That looks pretty good to me.
3:50
All right, now we're gonna put that in our prepared pan.
4:05
Some fell behind my paper.
4:10
Now we're gonna take another piece of parchment paper
4:15
or wax paper and we're gonna press this firmly,
4:22
'Cause the firmer you mash it,
4:24
the easier it is gonna be to cut.
4:33
And when you cut this, you don't want
4:38
to use a serrated knife
4:39
because it will tear it to bits.
4:42
So just make sure you use
4:44
a real sharp little paring knife.
4:51
And you wanna get those edges down real, real good.
4:54
'Cause that's what'll want to tear up on you
4:57
if it's not pressed down good.
5:00
And we're gonna bake this in a 300 degree oven
5:08
and then we're gonna take it out
5:09
and we're gonna let it cool completely, completely.
5:14
For our more healthy grab it and go bar,
5:20
I'm afraid that I have not let this cool enough,
5:25
but this is the one where you don't want
5:28
to use a serrated knife
5:36
it's wanting to tear up already.
5:40
So I have to be patient.
5:45
Let it cool completely.
5:48
But what a great bar to be able to just grab and go,
5:53
eat it on the way to work.
6:09
- [Theresa] I'm coming.
6:19
Like I said, it could be a little bit cooler,
6:23
but I love the craisins in it.
6:32
And it's not overly sweet.
6:34
All I have is a little maple syrup.
6:37
- Peanut butter, a little bit of peanut butter.
6:40
- If you used a sugar free syrup,
6:46
Except, well, a fourth of a cup of brown sugar.
6:49
- [Theresa] Two tablespoons. Yeah.
6:51
Not even a fourth cup.
6:56
- [Theresa] So you should take these two to triplets.
6:59
- I know. I'm gonna take 'em.
7:07
Start the day off with a little healthier recipe.
