You're gonna love what we're making today
0:05
because it's a pound cake, an easy pound cake,
0:08
and it's from my friend Shelly Pay's
0:11
best friend Diane Wright.
0:15
So Diane sent me a note,
0:19
and she said that every time she serves this,
0:22
people want the recipe.
0:24
So she said, "I've tried making different flavors,
0:27
and this has been one of my favorites,"
0:29
the one I'm gonna share with y'all today.
0:31
You can make this pound cake
0:33
with any combination of cake mix and coconut pecan frosting.
0:38
You mix the frosting right into the batter.
0:41
Some of my favorites are butter-flavored yellow cake mix,
0:48
butter pecan cake mix, and chocolate,
0:51
and surprisingly, orange cake mix.
0:55
So they all sound good.
0:57
So all we're gonna need is a butter pecan cake mix,
1:02
the coconut pecan frosting,
1:07
a cup of milk, four eggs, 3/4 a cup of oil,
1:11
and that is it, y'all.
1:16
We're gonna start by mixing the cake mix
1:38
You know, any time you're putting oil in a cake,
1:42
you know it's gonna be good and moist.
1:45
So (laughs) I was real interested
1:49
when Diane got this recipe to me.
1:56
Like I said, it just sounds like one
1:57
of those easy, delicious recipes.
2:04
All right, I beat that with my hand mixer
2:06
for about two minutes,
2:08
and now we're gonna take our frosting,
2:12
and I'm gonna fold it into the cake mix.
2:20
What is it, little girl?
2:27
I think you've already had what you're begging for today.
2:32
- Yes. - (laughs) I thought that.
2:34
So we're just gonna fold this in.
2:39
I guess if you wanted to,
2:40
you could add more nuts to this batter,
2:45
you know, to really give it
2:51
a little more crunch.
2:58
Okay, that looks like it's mixed in there good.
3:03
It smells like butter, and it smells like pecans.
3:09
Now, we want to spray our pan.
3:19
And I'm using a spray that has the flour mixed in
3:26
because that's a surefire way
3:29
to make sure your cake comes out
3:33
'cause, believe me, I have had some cakes
3:35
that I couldn't get out with a chisel.
3:40
So you live and learn.
3:44
All right, let's see.
3:46
Oh, and I wanna mention that September the 30th
3:51
so, Diane, please let me be the first one
3:54
to wish you a happy birthday on September the 30th.
4:00
I don't know how old you are, but...
4:04
Or how young you are, let's say that.
4:13
These glass bowls are heavy, y'all,
4:15
but I like for you to be able to see
4:19
in the bowl that we're doing our mixing in.
4:31
Let's make sure that's even.
4:38
350 for approximately one hour.
4:43
All right, Diane. (laughs)
4:51
The truth of the moment.
4:55
I can look at it and tell it's just gonna be delicious.
4:58
Now, all this is very heavy.
5:02
Cake pan is extremely heavy.
5:07
Come on, don't do me wrong, don't do me wrong. (laughs)
5:12
Oh, Diane, happy birthday, girl.
5:22
Look at that. Look at that cake.
5:34
You know, Diane, I can't wait to...
5:37
You got my attention with the orange cake mix.
5:42
I think the idea of a citrusy poundcake would be wonderful.
5:51
Diane, hush your mouth.
5:53
- [Man] She's not gonna be able
5:54
to have birthday cake. - I know.
5:57
But we'll celebrate your birthday
6:03
and eat your birthday cake too.
6:19
This is so delicious.
6:21
You know what it tastes like?
6:25
It's got the flavor of,
6:31
of a German chocolate cake.
6:44
Diane, happy birthday.
6:46
September the 30th is your day.
6:49
And I'm eating your cake.
6:53
Love and best dishes to you all.
