- Hey friends, the other day we were at Davis Produce
0:04
and y'all have heard me talk
0:05
about Davis Produce so, so much.
0:08
It's located on Highway 80
0:10
and a lot of people that are coming to vacation at Tybee
0:13
will stop by Davis and pick up fresh fruit and vegetables
0:18
for them to have when they're staying at the beach
0:22
and they've got a kitchen and wanna do a little cooking.
0:24
So these are beautiful, beautiful Davis Produce tomatoes
0:32
and so we're just gonna marinate 'em.
0:35
This would be a wonderful thing if you are going to Tybee,
0:38
this would be wonderful to put in your refrigerator there
0:43
so you could just snack on something, you know,
0:46
kind of healthy and not too, too filling.
0:49
So we've got olive oil.
0:52
No, we've got vegetable oil.
0:54
We've got three-fourths of a teaspoon of thyme,
0:57
half a teaspoon of black pepper,
1:00
a tablespoon of our house seasoning or seasoned salt,
1:05
two tablespoons of sugar, and one teaspoon of garlic powder,
1:12
and a half a cup of red wine vinegar.
1:15
Now we're just gonna mix all this stuff together
1:19
and I think I'm gonna start with the garlic
1:26
and then the sugar and then the seasoned salt.
1:29
I'm going to just put in all of our dry ingredients
1:32
'cause once I put in my oil,
1:34
it will be a little harder to get mixed, I think,
1:39
so this is what I'm gonna do.
1:45
I'm gonna whisk that together.
1:49
Let that sit and kinda get in that red wine.
1:53
And now I'm gonna take,
1:55
I've got three spring onions or green onions,
1:57
whatever y'all call 'em, and this gives them a great flavor
2:04
and gives them a little bit of that color that we like
2:09
but a dish that just has a couple of ingredients in it.
2:18
I'm just gonna throw that over the tomatoes.
2:24
And I mean, this is simple, simple, simple
2:27
and gonna be so delicious.
2:29
You know, I don't know how good this would be
2:31
during the winter when the tomatoes are just bad,
2:34
you know, they're just orange with no flavor.
2:40
So you might wanna reserve this recipe
2:43
for just those summer months.
2:48
And I really, really love
2:51
using heirloom tomatoes for this.
2:55
Michael and I could eat a heirloom tomato like an apple.
3:02
They're just so wonderful.
3:06
Okay, this is one of those
3:08
hard, long, drawn out recipes y'all.
3:18
Watch it, get back in there.
3:21
Get back in there, tomato.
3:25
This needs to marinate for a minimum of four to five hours
3:37
- [Person Offscreen] Don't forget the parsley.
3:40
- [Person Offscreen] Sorry. - No, that's all right.
3:44
you know, a little bit more green never hurt us.
3:55
And parsley really does, it has a flavor.
3:59
Ooh, this is a bad knife.
4:01
- [Person Offscreen 2] Yeah, it's really fresh.
4:04
It gives it a real fresh flavor.
4:07
And just do kind of a rough chop on that.
4:12
Throw that in. (bag crinkles)
4:17
Now I'm gonna pour our.
4:25
Let's see, the recipe calls for three tablespoons of parsley
4:31
which I don't think I had
4:35
maybe, but just like a tablespoon.
4:42
I have got to take these knives and get 'em sharpened
4:46
'cause I swear they wouldn't cut hot butter.
4:49
(person offscreen laughs)
4:50
And a dull knife is a dangerous knife.
4:54
It causes you to slip
4:58
and potentially cut yourself.
5:05
Okay, give that another quick stir
5:10
and you can see I'm using a two gallon storage bag.
5:18
I hope this one will seal.
5:21
I have used this one before
5:24
so sometimes when you reuse them
5:28
that seal doesn't wanna work so good.
5:32
I'm gonna push down that air.
5:36
Like I said, I wanna make sure it's good and sealed
5:42
Because I'm gonna wanna turn this periodically
5:49
you know, so it can marinate
5:53
And get through everything.
5:58
I can lay it flat so that each tomato
6:02
has an opportunity to kiss that marinade.
6:06
So four to five hours or overnight.
6:12
You don't get any easier or tasty than that, do you?
6:15
So this dish is so perfect
6:24
to go along with that entree
6:25
that you're grilling or you're frying something up.
6:32
And I'm gonna leave this in the bag
6:34
because we're not gonna be able to eat all
6:39
So I'm gonna leave it in that big plastic wrap.
6:45
Because every piece of tomato got marinated perfectly even
6:51
cause I could stretch 'em out
6:56
and I'm so excited about this.
7:00
It's just, like I said, it's good for you.
7:04
Michael's got himself on another diet
7:08
so I've got to be mindful of what he's trying to do.
7:14
This is what he's having for supper.
7:26
The marinade is so good and I love that vinegar, you know,
7:29
that makes you, kind of catches your breath.
7:33
This is delicious, mm.
7:44
Another great summertime recipe, mm.
