- I was sharing our trip, our Labor Day trip,
0:04
and our little vacation with Phil and Bubbles.
0:08
And you know, I told you Susan's always got something in
0:12
that's different that I'd never had or seen.
0:16
And this is another one of those recipes.
0:19
And let me tell y'all, when I tasted it,
0:21
I said, "Susan, this is perfect for tailgating."
0:29
And you know, Lake Oconee is like 45 minutes from Athens.
0:33
So there's a whole parcel of people
0:36
that drive on up to Athens for the game.
0:39
In fact, the first game was this past weekend.
0:43
And Brian and Sullivan went.
0:46
And Jamie and his two boys, the oldest boys,
0:53
And the game, Georgia just slaughtered that poor team.
0:58
But so, I had football on my mind
1:04
'cause it was right there in my face.
1:06
And that's what made me think
1:07
of what a perfect tailgate item this is
1:14
Now, I've got two eight ounce packages of cream cheese.
1:17
I've got my chopped nuts.
1:21
And here's the thing, when Susan pulled it out,
1:25
she had it in the freezer, and she pulled it out
1:27
and she said, "I want you to taste this."
1:31
She said, "What are the ingredients in it?"
1:36
And I said, "Well, it's either raisins
1:39
"or something along those lines.
1:44
"But I don't know what the other could be."
1:49
She said, "It's Tang."
1:51
Now, I used to fix this stuff for my boys
1:54
when they were little and I loved the taste of it.
1:58
And of course back then we didn't read a lot on packages.
2:02
You know, I didn't know.
2:04
My little Jamie loved Vienna sausages.
2:10
I'm gonna have to reread the label,
2:12
because I hadn't used this product in, gosh,
2:16
probably 50 or 60 years.
2:20
But anyway, it gave it a little tint of orange coloring
2:26
and you could taste, you could taste a little something in
2:30
that you couldn't put your finger on.
2:31
So I'm gonna beat this up and then I'm gonna add my Tang.
2:36
Put in the Tang, and we're going to put,
2:38
calls for one tablespoon per block of cream cheese.
2:43
I'm gonna do two tablespoons.
2:50
It's kind of the color of a dreamcicle, isn't it?
2:54
Or at least that's what I thought.
3:04
One, two, three, four ingredients.
3:10
You can whip this up in a second.
3:12
And right now I'm gonna chop my dates.
3:18
And you'll wanna be careful now
3:21
that you take that seed out of 'em,
3:24
because that wouldn't taste so good to chomp down on that.
3:28
So, remove that seed and I'm just gonna chop these up.
3:35
And I'm gonna fold 'em into our cream cheese mixture.
3:43
And they're kind of sticky,
3:47
but you wouldn't believe what biting into that sweet date
3:55
does to that cheese ball.
4:00
I think I got 'em chopped up pretty good,
4:02
so I'm gonna kind of break 'em up as I put 'em in there.
4:09
So it won't just be one big glob of dates.
4:28
Sticky business, y'all, sticky business.
4:43
Did you have a favorite cracker
4:45
that you ate this with, Eddie?
4:47
I know she had a variety of different crackers.
4:52
- [Eddie] Yeah, it's just like a flatbread.
4:56
- [Paula] The flatbread, yeah.
4:58
That doesn't bring too much in the way of flavors
5:02
to it. - [Eddie] Right.
5:03
- So you could really taste the dip.
5:10
We got it mixed up good now.
5:12
I'm gonna try to form this into a ball,
5:18
and we're gonna put it in the refrigerator
5:19
and just let it get firm.
5:21
But before I do that, I've got to go wash my sticky hands.
5:26
Now what you could do
5:28
is you could get two cheese balls out of this.
5:33
And like I said, Bubbles pulled hers
5:35
straight outta the freezer
5:39
and we ate on it in no time.
5:43
(spoon clanking on bowl)
5:46
(plastic wrap crinkling)
5:48
You know what I'm gonna do?
6:04
(can hitting counter)
6:15
I think I'm gonna make two out of this.
6:27
I think that will be good.
6:30
Because we can only eat so much of this at one time,
6:34
and it'll probably be more like just the two of us, Eddie.
6:40
And what made that one that Susan made so good
6:44
was she was not stingy with the nuts.
6:51
And she left her nuts in kind of big pieces.
6:57
So you knew you were getting a nut.
7:06
Now we're gonna wrap that in a piece of clean Saran wrap
7:14
And you could, if you wanted to,
7:18
do this in the form of a log, you know,
7:21
where it's just real easy to slice,
7:24
but that's strictly up to you.
7:27
So, this is one heck of a good tailgatin' item
7:33
to have at your next football game.
7:39
