- I got a good one, y'all,
0:03
if you are lucky enough to still have a mother
0:07
and you want to give her a wonderful, wonderful
0:10
Mother's Day breakfast in bed.
0:15
This is my precious niece, Corrie,
0:20
this is her granola waffles and buttered pecan syrup.
0:28
So I'm telling you, that girl, you knows she loves to eat,
0:33
and she knows good food.
0:36
She said, I'm surprised how many people are out there
0:38
that don't know what good food tastes like.
0:43
Because they're eating from quick places, pick up places.
0:47
But anyway, I'm gonna start with the syrup,
0:50
making the syrup.
0:52
And I'm gonna put two tablespoons -
0:56
that looked a little shy of two tablespoons.
0:58
(alarm beeping)
1:00
Maybe I, oh.
1:04
I think maybe I need to do...
1:05
Oh, you know what? You know what?
1:07
I forgot.
1:09
The measurements that I'm gonna be giving y'all
1:12
is for a full batch of waffles.
1:18
But because there's nobody here to eat them but me and me,
1:26
I'm just gonna mix up a half a batch
1:28
so that butter's perfect.
1:31
All right. And I'm gonna add...
1:35
Like I said, everything I'm doing, you're going to double.
1:40
So you need one cup of chopped pecans.
1:45
And now we just gonna toss those around in our butter,
1:55
till they become fragrant.
1:56
You know, we certainly don't wanna burn them.
2:00
So we will just stand up here
2:02
and make sure they stay stirred up,
2:06
and not get overcooked,
2:12
or over-browned.
2:16
There's nothing like a toasted pecan, is it, Eddie,
2:19
like on a cinnamon roll.
2:20
- [Eddie] Yeah. - Warm cinnamon roll.
2:22
Oh, my word. Good gobbledy gook. (laughs)
2:30
All right. So that will take about three minutes,
2:33
and then we're gonna add maple syrup.
2:36
And you would need one cup of maple syrup.
2:45
You will need one teaspoon of salt divided.
2:49
So I'm gonna go ahead and add
2:50
what little bit of salt this pot gets.
3:13
Okay. I think I got everything in there.
3:16
All we're gonna need now is the syrup.
3:21
And you would need
3:26
one cup, and I am only using a half cup.
3:30
I don't wanna confuse y'all, so.
3:33
(liquids hissing in the pot)
3:38
How good does that sound?
3:48
And good maple syrup is very, very pricey.
3:53
And I can understand.
3:55
I had an opportunity when I was,
3:58
that first year I was on TV
4:00
and I was shooting my shows up north.
4:04
I had an opportunity to go
4:09
and pull sap from the trees.
4:13
I can understand why maple syrup is so expensive.
4:23
Okay. So two to three minutes.
4:27
(alarm buzzes)
4:31
We want that maple syrup
4:35
to really, really grab hold to those pecans,
4:39
to get that nutty, nutty flavor.
4:44
I think I'm just gonna pour it back in here.
4:47
Eddie found me a pretty little syrup pitcher.
4:52
But I think
4:56
this will be the safest for me to handle,
5:00
seeing I just got one real blah.
5:05
So look at that. Mmm, mmm.
5:08
Yummy.
5:13
(silverware clattering) Ooh. What?
5:22
Okay. Gonna have a spoon for it.
5:26
Ready?
5:28
All right, now we're gonna put
5:29
our batter together for our waffles.
5:33
And this is what you'll need for your waffles.
5:39
Two cups of all purpose flour.
5:43
Three tablespoons of sugar.
5:46
One teaspoon of baking powder.
5:50
A half a teaspoon of baking soda.
5:54
Three eggs.
5:56
Two cups of buttermilk,
5:59
and one cup of your favorite granola.
6:04
So we have our flour.
6:15
And I'll just use our little whisk
6:18
to just kind of break that up.
6:22
Then I'm gonna come over here
6:24
and beat up my eggs a little bit.
6:32
Theresa, I don't see the buttermilk.
6:34
- [Theresa] Ooh. Guess I forgot to give that to you.
6:37
- [Paula] Unless it's somewhere
6:39
I don't know about know about.
6:40
- [Theresa] No, it's not in the refrigerator
6:41
where it should be.
6:42
- [Paula] Okay. (laughs)
6:46
All right. Then we got our salt.
6:51
See what happens with these little things?
6:52
That's exactly the same size.
6:55
I dropped them when I was with Oprah.
7:03
Those little glass things are hard to hold onto,
7:06
and the smaller they are the harder it is to hold onto.
7:10
We've got our baking powder,
7:14
our baking soda,
7:17
and our three tablespoons of sugar.
7:25
So I'm just gonna whisk that together.
7:28
I could have gotten a little bigger bowl, y'all.
7:31
(laughs) But I didn't.
7:40
Okay.
7:42
There is our two eggs.
7:49
And you don't wanna over-mix this.
7:52
You know, it's okay if it's a little lumpy.
8:01
And you'll need the two cups of buttermilk.
8:12
And I've got my waffle machine over here heating up,
8:16
and I'm gonna give it a little spray.
8:40
Just wanna make sure I got everything in there.
8:47
Going back to use my handy dandy whisk.
8:53
And I'm gonna add my melted butter.
9:06
Don't drop it, Paula.
9:40
Okey dokey.
9:42
I made that hard for me,
9:44
using that little tiny one-cup bowl. (laughs)
9:50
Sometimes I'm frugal when I should not be frugal.
9:57
So now I'm going to spray my waffle iron.
10:04
And I do love this waffle iron,
10:06
because I can cook two waffles at one time.
10:10
All right, let's see what our temperature is.
10:12
It says ready.
10:18
I'm just gonna give it a spray.
10:32
I'm kind of making a mess here, aren't I, Eddie?
10:37
- [Eddie] I'm not looking.
10:38
- (laughs)
10:39
- [Eddie] I'm not looking.
10:40
- (laughs) Good.
10:47
And I'm real bad about
10:51
putting too much batter in it.
10:54
(laughs)
10:56
I'm real bad.
10:59
So let's see how
11:02
old gray mare did.
11:06
I think it's ready, Eddie.
11:11
The story goes, when it stops steaming,
11:13
your waffle is ready.
11:15
But to me, and look,
11:17
I pur - I purred! (laughs)
11:21
I poured the perfect amount of batter on this waffle.
11:29
Look at this.
11:32
Look at that, Eddie. Have you ever seen anything so pretty?
11:38
Have you? (laughs)
11:40
- [Eddie] No.
11:42
You know, when we travel
11:44
and we stay a hotel that has waffles
11:47
where you have to make it yourself,
11:49
I always want to do it, but.
11:51
- [Paula] You don't do it. Look at this.
11:52
- [Eddie] I don't do it. - [Paula] Teresa.
11:53
- [Eddie] I'm afraid I'm gonna mess it up.
11:55
- [Paula] Oh, you know, how can you mess it up?
11:56
You can't mess it up.
11:57
- [Theresa] Look, that's gorgeous.
11:58
- [Paula] The folks that could mess it up
12:00
was the ones putting the batter together.
12:02
- [Eddie] Well, that would be, oh, well, yeah.
12:04
- [Paula] You know, so.
12:08
Just a little bit of butter.
12:11
All right, now I'm gonna do it just way Corrie does it.
12:16
Put your favorite granola right there in the middle.
12:22
I hope I've put enough butter.
12:24
Now, our syrup is still hot.
12:28
You can't have any, Theresa?
12:29
- [Theresa] No.
12:30
We're almost there, though.
12:33
- [Paula] My syrup is still hot, so.
12:37
- [Theresa] It is gorgeous.
12:38
- [Paula] Mmm.
12:46
I'm fixing to swallow my tongue. (laughs)
12:50
Now, help me not swallow my tongue! (laughs)
12:54
I'm gonna choke to death on it.
12:59
I just hate that y'all are not here.
13:05
So there's my granola,
13:08
and my nuts.
13:13
Oh.
13:14
- [Theresa] And it's hot?
13:15
- And it's hot.
13:24
These are so good.
13:25
And you know, you can make the batter ahead of time,
13:27
and go ahead and cook them.
13:29
And if you have four people,
13:32
you can put them on a baking sheet
13:34
and put them in the oven and heat them right back up.
13:36
- [Theresa] Can you freeze them?
13:38
- Yes. Yes, you buy frozen waffles all the time
13:41
at the grocery store, don't you?
13:42
- [Theresa] Yeah.
13:43
- Or you can, you probably don't but.
13:45
- [Theresa] I don't think of it.
13:47
- Mmm.
13:48
- [Theresa] But what a great way to make your own,
13:52
instead of -
13:53
- [Paula] Yes.
13:56
Uh oh. (laughs)
13:57
Uh oh. (laughs)
14:04
That butter,
14:06
on that waffle,
14:10
is incredible.
14:14
- [Theresa] I didn't think you put enough butter,
14:15
but that's fine. - I didn't!
14:17
- [Theresa] (laughs)
14:18
- I didn't, Theresa, but I was embarrassed.
14:21
But since you said that. (laughs)
14:25
Since I have your approval.
14:29
- [Theresa] I'm as bad as you with butter.
14:30
- I want butter in every one of those little holes.
14:33
- [Theresa] Me too.
14:35
- And course the real way to go is with melted butter.
14:42
- [Theresa] And fill it all up, so it's -
14:45
- Yes.
14:46
All right, so let me take one more bite for y'all.
14:51
So.
14:55
You know, I do a lot for my job.
14:58
- [Theresa] (laughs)
14:59
- I sacrifice a lot. Get back up here.
15:02
I sacrifice a lot for my job.
15:04
- [Theresa] It knows you're telling a lie.
15:06
- (laughs) It's trying to run from me.
15:15
(chewing)
15:24
The granola gives it a whole new,
15:32
whole new flavor and taste.
15:35
You know, you don't expect your waffle to be,
15:40
crunchy, crispy.
15:42
Or at least I don't.
15:44
This is our son, Anthony.
15:46
- Hey.
15:46
- Y'all hear me talking about him.
15:48
Precious young man.
15:50
All right.
15:53
This is Corrie's,
15:56
this is Corrie's recipe for,
15:59
- [Anthony] Waffle?
16:00
- [Paula] Corrie's granola waffles
16:04
with a butter pecan syrup.
16:06
Get in there and get you some in the middle.
16:08
- [Theresa] Anthony, she's making those for Mother's Day.
16:10
This would be a great thing for you to cook Ashley.
16:17
- What do you think?
16:18
- I think you could make them for Father's Day, too.
16:19
(laughter)
16:22
- Listen, this boy is his daddy over and over.
16:27
He's got, oh, that's your fork, isn't it?
16:29
He's got the keenest sense of humor.
16:32
- (indistinct)
16:32
- I think he's sharper than his father.
16:36
- I don't.
16:37
- But that's just between you and me.
16:37
- Yeah.
16:38
- (laughs)
16:40
- That's the (indistinct)
16:41
- Eat up, some more, sonny boy.
16:42
- I'll have one more bite.
16:43
- See y'all later. (laughs)
