The next few recipes that I share with y'all
0:03
is going to be all about the big game day in February
0:12
because you get a house full of men
0:15
and they can eat you out a house and home
0:18
while they're screaming and hooting
0:19
and hollering over that football game.
0:22
So I'm gonna make sure I have plenty of snacks.
0:25
And the first recipe I'm gonna share
0:27
with y'all is a brownie cake.
0:29
And it's pretty simple, simple ingredients.
0:33
I've got my chocolate and I've got my butter.
0:38
And you can melt this.
0:41
The recipe says actually melt it
0:44
over a double boiler over water,
0:47
but I'm not going to do that.
0:49
Or you can do it in the microwave.
0:50
I'm just gonna stand up here
0:52
and watch it very carefully
0:57
and not burn the chocolate or burn the butter.
1:03
And then I'm gonna put it over here in this bowl.
1:07
And we've got sugar, we've got cocoa,
1:09
we've got eggs, vanilla, salt, and self-rising flour,
1:14
which means we don't have to use any
1:16
baking powder or baking soda.
1:21
You know, most of the recipes call for plain flour,
1:26
so you have to add your leavening things to it,
1:32
I did a good job, y'all.
1:34
I got it nice and smooth and melted.
1:37
And now I'm gonna just transfer it to our big bowl
1:40
and we're gonna let this kind of cool.
1:43
Although I didn't get it piping hot,
1:45
I got it just hot enough to melt.
1:53
And I'm gonna get every bit of that chocolate out of there.
1:58
And I used a non-stick pan, so it's coming out good.
2:10
Can't believe it, I missed some.
2:15
So our next step is to whisk in our cocoa.
2:44
I think I'm gonna have to get the whisk
2:46
because I don't want this to be lumpy.
3:08
This is already really cool,
3:10
so I think I can go ahead
3:13
and finish putting everything together.
3:22
So I'm going to add the eggs.
3:28
My little chickens have quit laying eggs.
3:32
- [Eddie] (indistinct).
3:33
- How long has it been since we've gotten an egg, Eddie?
3:36
- [Eddie] It's probably been about a month and a half.
3:42
- [Eddie] But you know, I think they are just about all done
3:46
losing their feathers.
3:47
They all look nice and full.
3:51
I've got a lamp that I'll start using during the day.
3:57
- [Paula] They encourage them.
3:58
- [Eddie] (indistinct). (laughing)
4:00
Because it's kind of (indistinct).
4:05
- [Eddie] And I noticed, I mean,
4:06
I looked at them yesterday around four, five?
4:10
They are marching up the ramp to go to bed.
4:19
Well, I know they're probably just
4:21
as confused as we are.
4:23
All right, I'm seeing these cords that are in those eggs
4:26
and I just don't like them.
4:29
So I try to take them out,
4:33
because I just don't like them.
4:35
All right, now we're gonna stir in the sugar
4:43
and I'm gonna add that salt to our flour over there.
4:54
This is gonna be real chocolatey, y'all.
4:58
All right, a tablespoon of vanilla.
5:18
And then last we're gonna fold in our flour.
5:25
That tablespoon of vanilla really helped moisten this up.
5:37
All right, now I'm gonna fold in our flour.
5:42
And I added the salt to that,
5:44
so I'll just stir that around a little bit.
5:57
Are we putting nuts in this?
6:00
This recipe doesn't call for nuts, does it?
6:02
- [Sally-Mae] It does not. - Ugh.
6:04
So if you like nuts, add nuts.
6:12
Well, crap, Paula, this is messy.
6:24
I need to change places with Eddie and let him do this.
6:26
This takes muscles, (indistinct).
6:39
All right, we're gonna bake this, y'all,
6:40
in an eight by eight pan
6:43
and we're gonna bake it for about 25 minutes
6:47
and it should still be gooey in the center.
6:53
Okay, we about to get it.
6:56
I think that the recipe calls you
7:01
to cook in an eight by eight,
7:02
but I swear I think this is a nine by nine, Theresa.
7:06
- [Sally-Mae] Do we have an eight by eight?
7:08
- I would sure think so.
7:11
Okay, I was right, y'all.
7:13
That bowl was actually like a nine and a half,
7:18
So that would play with the thickness of our brownie cake.
7:24
So we're switching over to an eight by eight
7:31
because that will make a difference.
7:39
This is a thick batter, y'all.
7:48
- [Eddie] It's like fudge. - [Paula] Oh, it does.
7:51
Looks like we could cut it and eat it as fudge.
8:07
So if you're cooking for a bunch of men and girls,
8:13
us girls love chocolates.
8:20
Okay, so we just gonna press this down in the pan.
8:26
And I think the temperature is 350, I think.
8:35
And I'm trying real hard not to change my recipe, y'all,
8:42
because I tend to change every recipe I got.
8:46
It just depends on the mood.
8:49
But I sure do think that that would be good
8:52
with some nuts on it and maybe some caramel sauce.
8:57
But I'm not changing the recipe, I promise.
9:01
Okay, our brownie cake is ready
9:04
and I flipped it over and a little stuck.
9:08
So you'll make sure that you gonna want to use your spray
9:13
that has flour in it, and I did not.
9:19
So that flour will keep anything that you need to flip out.
9:24
It'll keep it from sticking.
9:26
But anyway, it's got a gooey inside
9:31
and since some of it stuck, I'm just going to dress it up
9:36
with a little powdered sugar,
9:39
a little powder and paint to make us what we ain't.
9:45
My sissy says that all the time.
9:47
- [Sally-Mae] Do you put cut strawberries over it
9:50
- Oh, you could do anything.
9:51
I'm thinking like a caramel syrup,
9:55
with maybe a little scoop of ice cream on top
10:00
and drizzle it with caramel.
10:08
So it's still so hot.
10:09
I don't even know if it's gonna cut.
10:16
You really do need to let it cool.
10:19
- [Sally-Mae] (indistinct) sweets.
10:23
- Okay, come get you a piece.
10:24
- I'm coming. (laughing)
10:27
Looks good and gooey on the inside.
10:33
Is it burning your mouth?
10:37
- [Sally-Mae] See how it's (indistinct) heavy,
10:41
I mean, it's got a good goo.
10:43
So if you don't like it that gooey, you can of course--
10:45
- [Paula] No, why would you not want that goo?
10:47
All right, so let me tell you what this reminds me of.
10:51
Look, look at the goo.
10:55
It reminds me of that cake with a chocolate gooey--
10:59
- Molten lava. - Molten lava.
11:01
Molten, molten lava.
11:02
- A flowerless molten lava--
11:06
That's what this tastes like.
11:09
- [Sally-Mae] It is good.
11:10
- Uh-huh, I love that gooey center.
11:14
- [Sally-Mae] This'll go over well.
11:15
- The men will love it.
11:18
Bon appetit, Sally-Mae.
11:22
Oh, the dogs are not playing, are they?
11:25
It's two football teams.
11:32
Hey, y'all, it's Paula Deen.
