I'm just getting the sweetest letters from y'all
0:07
and I got this card with a nice note inside
0:15
and it's from Kathy Oman and it's just so sweet.
0:21
She said, "I first heard your voice.
0:23
I was in the kitchen and the TV was on
0:25
and I heard a lady kinda talk like we do.
0:28
It was like a friend was talking to me.
0:32
You were and are so real,
0:35
tasting the food you cook, not a teeny bite."
0:40
And let me tell you something, Kathy.
0:44
Right after I started doing my food network shows,
0:50
they sent me a message telling me to take princess bites,
0:54
that I took too much and I sent a note back to them
0:59
that I'm sorry, I don't know what a princess bite is
1:03
so I'll continue to taste just like I always have.
1:08
I couldn't believe it
1:10
that they didn't like the way I was taking my bites
1:13
when I tried the food but if it's good, I like it, I like it
1:19
and I enjoy tasting it.
1:22
So Kathy sent me a recipe, y'all.
1:25
I've made a lot of breakfast casseroles in my life
1:29
because I actually used to do a lot of catering,
1:33
breakfast catering jobs
1:35
with companies that were having an early morning meeting.
1:40
So I would make my breakfast casserole
1:44
but the recipe that Kathy sent for me,
1:47
she calls it breakfast pizza
1:51
but she doesn't say to use a pizza pan.
1:54
So she tells me to put it in a 13 by nine
1:58
but this is one of the easy this breakfast casseroles
2:06
So Kathy, I appreciate it
2:08
'cause we all like easy and quick and delicious
2:12
but we want it to have that homemade feel and taste to it.
2:17
So Kathy tells me to get a 13 by nine by two pan
2:24
and then she tells me to get a can of crescent rolls.
2:31
Let me see if I can find the seam.
2:36
So she tells me to press the crescent roll,
2:43
press the seams together
2:52
into the bottom of your pan.
2:54
So we're gonna do that.
2:56
And in the meantime, I've got a pound of breakfast sausage
3:02
that I'm scrambling up over here.
3:05
Okay, while our sausage continues to brown,
3:09
we're gonna put this in the oven
3:10
and Kathy tells us to bake it for about seven minutes
3:14
until it starts to turn a nice kinda light brown.
3:25
So our sausage is almost done
3:27
so I'm gonna take my eight eggs and I am gonna beat them up.
3:33
Kathy doesn't even have salt or pepper going in this
3:36
so I'm not gonna add any since she said not to.
3:50
And now we're gonna add,
3:53
I've got an eight ounce bag of shredded sharp cheddar
3:59
and I'm gonna just mix that in with the eggs
4:05
and our crust should be done.
4:06
She said bake it until it just kinda starts puffing up
4:10
and turning a little brown.
4:12
Okay, y'all, it's ready.
4:27
"put sausage directly on top of the crescent roll"
4:30
so that's what we're gonna do.
4:35
And she said to drain the grease off of the sausage
4:39
but there's not really enough to even fool with draining.
4:46
So this wasn't a real fatty sausage which is good.
5:22
And we're just gonna pour our cheesy eggs on top.
5:40
It refused to all come out in just one spot
5:49
which it kinda did right there.
5:56
I'm just gonna kinda spread it around.
6:00
We want everybody to have some cheese but I'll get that
6:04
because Kathy tells us right before it's done
6:09
to sprinkle a little more cheese on top
6:16
and then cook it like two more minutes
6:18
just until that cheese melts.
6:25
Can't get any easier than that, Kathy.
6:28
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
6:30
Okey-dokey, a little bit more cheese.
6:35
Little more cheese and couple of minutes for that to melt.
6:41
Ms. Kathy, this looks good.
7:04
And look, it just came right out
7:06
since I lightly sprayed the bottom of that.
7:12
Kathy, this is one of those dishes
7:13
where you can just add and add and go to it.
7:19
You can just put anything you want in this sausage pizza.
7:59
I love the crescent roll taste with it.
8:22
I wanted to taste it while it was still nice and hot
8:28
I would probably serve this,
8:33
and it didn't need any salt.
8:34
I didn't ever put any salt in it, doesn't need it.
8:38
I would probably serve this with a dollop of sour cream
8:42
or either a spoon of salsa
8:47
if you wanted to give it a Mexican flair,
8:51
would be real good on that.
8:55
So Kathy, thank you so much.
8:57
I know you and your husband were here in Savannah
8:59
celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary
9:03
and I hope y'all had a good time.
9:05
And thank you for the recipe and your sweet, sweet card.
