- Hey, my friends, what a joy this is for me today.
0:05
There's so many of y'all
0:07
that experienced the birth
0:11
of my first grandchild with me, Jack
0:14
and y'all were so good and y'all celebrated with me
0:17
and y'all made him gifts and blankets
0:21
and oh, it was just wonderful
0:24
that y'all loved this young man along with me.
0:28
And Jack is gonna be 18 y'all, this summer.
0:31
- Whew.
0:33
Wow, when you say it like that, that makes it sound crazy.
0:36
- I know, I know it.
0:39
So I am taking him on a great trip when he turns 18
0:46
and we are gonna have so much fun.
0:48
- Oh yeah, most fun.
0:49
- You gonna be legal and, but I'm not talking about alcohol.
0:55
- No, no, no.
0:55
- But just getting into places, you will be legal.
1:04
And what was I gonna say?
1:05
There's so much to say about Jack.
1:07
I can't get it in my head.
1:10
I'm just so proud of this young man.
1:13
He goes to BC, a private military school here in town
1:20
and a couple of Fridays ago, they had ring day
1:25
when the juniors get their ring
1:28
and it's presented by hopefully somebody else
1:33
that graduated from BC.
1:36
Well, he asked his granddaddy,
1:41
Captain Groover to present his ring to him
1:46
because he was a graduate of BC in 73.
1:49
- Right.
1:50
- And I can't tell you how thrilled that made peeps.
1:56
He said it was one of the proudest days of his life.
1:59
- Well, I really appreciated him giving it to me.
2:00
It was really special to be able to receive it from him.
2:02
- Oh, you could have asked him for anything on that day
2:06
and he'd given it to you.
2:08
- Yeah.
2:10
- He, it just, he was so thrilled to do it.
2:13
So I wish y'all would check Jack out.
2:17
He started a Christian clothing line last night.
2:20
- Oh yeah.
2:21
- How do you get that, how do you find that?
2:24
- I just started a little side thing.
2:26
Yeah, there's a lot of Christian clothes out there
2:28
but there's not a lot made for younger men like myself
2:31
so I decided that I would just make a couple designs
2:34
and see how it worked out.
2:35
It's called Sacred Stitches Co on Etsy.
2:38
I'd really appreciate if you checked it out.
2:39
I just got it up and running
2:40
and there's some pretty cool designs on there too.
2:42
- And he's also had a show, Jack's Book Nook
2:47
that he started when you were, what, 10?
2:49
- Yep, around then, probably,
2:51
I started planning it around 10
2:53
and then I started actually filming in like seventh grade
2:55
so it's been in the making for a long time.
2:57
- And he does it himself.
2:59
His daddy films for him. - Mhm.
3:01
- And Jack is an avid, avid reader.
3:04
So when he reads a good book,
3:07
he wants to give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down.
3:12
- Right.
3:13
- And the last book I saw that you did, I was surprised
3:17
because it was a, that writer that's kinda,
3:24
I mean, he can be scary, what is his name?
3:27
- Oh, Stephen King. - Yes, Stephen King.
3:28
- Oh yeah. - Your daddy adores his work.
3:30
- Well, that's where I really got into Stephen King.
3:33
My dad reads so much of him. - He does.
3:35
- There's just so many books laying around the house.
3:37
I just whenever I'm bored, I just go through and pick one
3:40
and that's what, so a lot of my reviews
3:42
have been over him recently
3:43
but I'm gonna upload something soon
3:45
that's probably a little bit different this week.
3:49
- Yeah and it's from children's books on down,
3:52
isn't it, Jack?
3:53
- Mhm, yeah, so I review for different age groups.
3:55
I do some books for, I have three brothers
3:58
or two including me.
4:00
I have Davis who's three, Matthew who's 12
4:03
and I'm 17, about to be 18
4:06
and I like to review books for all age groups
4:08
for all types of kids.
4:09
So if you ever need to find a book for anyone in your family
4:12
like a birthday gift, Christmas gift, anything like that,
4:15
come check out my channel.
4:16
I have things for all different ages that you can look for.
4:18
- That is great.
4:20
Anything else you wanna catch up
4:24
with all these people that loved you from day one?
4:27
- I've just been really busy staying in high school.
4:30
Starting to look at colleges a lot now
4:32
which is kind of crazy
4:33
'cause honestly, it doesn't really feel like I'm that age.
4:37
I know a lot of people say that time flies and it's true.
4:42
I mean, the days are long but the years are really fast
4:45
and it's starting to catch up on me.
4:47
- You ain't seen nothing yet, honey.
4:49
- I know, I know but it's just been going good.
4:53
Staying busy.
4:54
- I remember, Jack, like yesterday when I was 18.
4:58
- Really? - Having the time of my life.
5:00
- Mhm.
5:02
- I didn't know what a problem was at that age
5:05
but at 19, real life hit me and it hit me hard.
5:10
So anyway, we are gonna practice on a recipe
5:14
so Jack can make this
5:15
for his beautiful sweet mother on Mother's Day.
5:18
- Yep, just trying to find something to cook for my mom
5:22
'cause she cooks breakfast for me every morning
5:24
and I eat a lot of food, all my brothers do
5:26
so I thought on Mother's Day, I would find something nice
5:29
to be able to make for her, bring it to her in bed.
5:31
- That's wonderful.
5:32
So we're gonna, we're gonna play
5:34
with banana pancakes this morning.
5:36
- Wonderful. - So all you have to do,
5:38
sonny boy, is mix all these ingredients together
5:43
with a teaspoon of vanilla and I'll mix together your flour,
5:50
your sugar, your cinnamon and I believe that's nutmeg.
6:01
Nutmeg, yeah and I believe that's fresh nutmeg which I love.
6:05
Theresa's done grated up some fresh, hadn't you, girl?
6:08
- [Theresa] I have.
6:10
Nothing but the best for y'all.
6:11
- Thank ya, thank ya.
6:15
All right, so I've got these mixed together, Jack,
6:20
and when you get yours. - Where's the buttermilk?
6:22
- Give you a whisk.
6:24
- This is buttermilk right here?
6:25
- Yes. - All right.
6:27
So this is buttermilk, melted butter, two eggs,
6:33
mashed bananas and one teaspoon of vanilla, yeah.
6:37
- And I hope I don't have our griddle too hot.
6:41
There's a good chance I do
6:44
because I got to talking about you.
6:48
So I'm gonna,
6:53
I had put our oil in our skillet, ooh,
6:58
so I'm gonna pour that off 'cause I don't want to-
7:02
- [Theresa] I had smelled smoke.
7:04
- Yeah, I don't wanna use overheated, overheated oil.
7:10
Jack is also a member of a Raiders team.
7:17
- Yep. - [Paula] And that sport
7:19
is one of the hardest that you can do.
7:22
- Right.
7:23
To explain it simply, since I go to a military school,
7:26
this is like an option as a sport
7:27
and honestly, it's one of the best decisions
7:29
I've ever made to join it 'cause I love it so much.
7:32
- But you're outdoors for everything, aren't ya?
7:34
- Right, it's all outdoors.
7:36
It's about eight hours of competition.
7:38
It's like army physical training
7:40
if it was turned into a sport.
7:42
So you go through all different competitions
7:44
throughout the day with your team and you compete
7:46
and wherever you place at the end,
7:48
they take all your total scores from everything
7:50
and that's how you place
7:51
and this year, I'm the captain
7:53
which is awesome, senior year.
7:55
So I'm really excited.
7:56
I'm about to start running spring workout soon.
7:58
- [Paula] All right, well tell 'em,
7:59
tell 'em what y'all just did, the Raider team just did.
8:03
- Oh yeah.
8:04
- [Paula] At the end of the season.
8:06
- So we had our state championship
8:08
which we went and we won state championship
8:10
then we went to Knoxville, or not Knoxville, Fort Knox
8:14
and we, yeah.
8:15
- [Paula] Same thing, right? - Close enough.
8:17
And we won the national championship as well.
8:20
So we're the best Raider team in the nation right now.
8:22
So we're defending champions for next season.
8:25
So a lot to live up to but I'm excited.
8:26
- Now, what place did y'all come in?
8:29
- First. - In the state?
8:31
- Mhm. - And how about nationals?
8:33
- First in nationals and then me personally,
8:36
I did an extra competition
8:38
where you take the best Raider from every team
8:41
and you have them all compete against each other
8:44
at the very end and I placed as the sixth best Raider
8:47
in the nation just by myself
8:48
which is something I'm very proud of, yeah.
8:51
- Do y'all see why I walk around like this
8:53
when I talk about this grandson?
8:56
I can't get my chest out far, far enough.
8:59
- Yeah but it's a lot of work, we've been practicing a lot.
9:01
- I was telling the younger grandchildren the other day,
9:03
I think it was Henry I was talking to,
9:06
I said, now, Jack has set the, what word, the bar.
9:12
Yeah, Jack set the bar now for the rest of y'all.
9:15
So you got a following.
9:18
- Yeah, well. - Okay, baby.
9:19
Now, you just pour the wet on top of this
9:24
and I guess that'll hold it.
9:27
Why don't we do it the opposite way?
9:28
- [Jack] Yeah, I was just thinking that.
9:29
- Let's do it the opposite way, okay,
9:31
and this will have some lumps in it.
9:35
So don't worry about that.
9:37
And you will need the spatula which is gone, gone, gone.
9:43
Okay, here it is.
9:45
You might need this
9:46
to just clean your spatula once in a while.
9:53
- [Jack] Yes, ma'am.
9:54
- Okay, so.
9:59
Yeah, so we'll flip these.
10:02
- What's the best way to make a even circle of 'em?
10:07
- Kinda like that.
10:09
Kinda like that. - A little bit uneven
10:11
but I'm sure that won't affect the taste.
10:13
- No, you can take that
10:15
and kinda force it to go in a circle.
10:19
So we will flip these.
10:21
No, that won't affect their taste at all.
10:23
And look, I'll do that sometimes if it's a little,
10:27
y'all notice, they're a little, ooh, that one's perfect.
10:30
- [Jack] Yeah, looks good.
10:32
- [Paula] Yeah and you can always take your.
10:35
- [Jack] I probably made 'em a little bit too spaced out.
10:36
Not enough room. - [Paula] No, uh uh.
10:37
That was perfect.
10:38
That's what I would have done.
10:39
- Okay, good, good.
10:41
What do you, how do you think we should top 'em?
10:44
With butter?
10:44
- Butter and syrup. - Syrup.
10:46
- What kind of syrup do you like?
10:48
What kinda syrup does mama like?
10:50
- Mama just likes the regular.
10:52
Just like the, what do they call it now, the Pearl, Pearl-
10:55
- Ooh, Jack, look.
10:57
- [Eddie] Real maple syrup.
10:59
- Oh, oh yeah, well that sounds awesome, real maple-
11:01
- Ooh, they're nice and brown.
11:03
- Oh my God, they look so good.
11:04
- Don't they look good?
11:07
Okay, the griddle was a little hot, y'all.
11:10
So that's the hardest part.
11:12
You, you, I'm ready.
11:13
- [Jack] Oh yeah, let's do it.
11:14
My mouth is watering just looking at it.
11:16
It looks delicious.
11:17
- [Paula] You want a big old glass of cold milk with it or?
11:20
- [Jack] Oh my gosh, yes, that sounds perfect.
11:22
- Theresa, would you pour Jack
11:24
a tall glass of ice cold milk please?
11:28
- This is the trick right here.
11:29
You gotta get in between the stacks.
11:31
- That's right.
11:32
- If you overflow on the top,
11:34
that's your pool that you can use
11:36
to dip the parts that didn't get syrup on the bottom.
11:38
- All right, let's see if these are good enough for mama.
11:42
- All right, let's see.
11:50
Oh my goodness.
11:53
That's so good.
11:54
- [Theresa] He just looked like his daddy right there.
11:57
- Did he? - [Theresa] Yes.
12:01
- Mm.
12:02
- I hate the griddle was a little too hot.
12:03
- I think it's good 'cause the inside is soft
12:05
but the outside's a little bit crunchy and that makes it.
12:07
- Yes, yes, yes.
12:09
- And with the milk.
12:10
Mm. - Mhm.
12:12
- That's wonderful.
12:13
- Mm. - Really great.
12:16
- And Jack decorated his plate
12:19
with strawberries and blackberries, y'all.
12:22
That's not enough syrup for me, sonny boy.
12:24
- Really?
12:25
Here you go, have a little bit more.
12:28
- I have to say that when I eat pancakes or waffles
12:33
or anything, I do use a sugar-free syrup.
12:39
And to me- - Makes sense.
12:41
- Well, it's very good. - Yeah.
12:43
- And I can enjoy it without so much sugar.
12:47
I'm breaking the rules right now.
12:50
- It is definitely worth it.
12:51
It is delicious. - Mm.
12:53
- Pancakes are my favorite food, number one
12:55
so this is just the best day.
12:57
- Jack didn't know what we were cooking today so.
13:01
- Yeah, this is awesome.
13:02
- This couldn't have been more perfect, Theresa.
13:03
- [Jack] Yeah.
13:05
- Do you know banana pancakes
13:07
are my favorite pancakes in the world?
13:09
- Really?
13:10
- Yes.
13:11
When I've made them other times, I just slice my tomato.
13:15
When I put, my tomato?
13:17
- I said what?
13:19
- Who's up here, who's up here doing this talking?
13:24
Ms. Mims.
13:27
Ms. Mims.
13:30
I'll pour the batter
13:32
and then I'll just slice my banana on top of it
13:35
and then when I flip it.
13:36
- Oh yeah, that's a good idea, I'll do that.
13:37
- Kinda grilled. - Oh yeah.
13:38
- But you finish eating, honey.
13:40
- I will. - And you enjoy.
13:43
And I'm so happy that you have figured out
13:48
how to make this for your mama.
13:49
- Mhm.
13:50
I'm sure she'll love it.
13:52
- Perfect for Mother's Day, y'all.
13:55
My first grandson and I wish y'all
13:59
much Love and Best Dishes.
14:01
- Bye, y'all. - Don't we?
14:02
- Yes, ma'am. - Check this young man out.
14:05
