0:00
- Hey, it's a good day y'all,
0:03
and I bet you're saying why is it a good day, Paula?
0:05
Because I got a recipe from one of you friends out there,
0:11
and guess what, usually women are real good, Theresa,
0:14
about sending recipes,
0:17
and once in a while a man will send a recipe,
0:20
and I just love that, Johnny,
0:22
so I appreciate you watching,
0:25
and don't forget to hit that button,
0:32
that, I can't remember what it's called.
0:35
- [Theresa] Just to get them to subscribe.
0:36
- Subscribe. (laughing)
0:39
I'm telling you what, I'm thick headed,
0:42
So anyway, this recipe is from Johnny Kicker,
0:49
K-i-c or Kickit, Kickert.
0:57
Do you know I've never heard of that last name before.
1:04
But Johnny says "Hey Paula, a while back
1:07
"you were looking for baked beans
1:08
"that call for hamburger meat."
1:11
Yes, my son Bobby would go to a special friend's house,
1:18
and his mama quite often would make beans,
1:22
baked beans with hamburger meat in it.
1:24
And he said "Mama, they are so good."
1:29
And I never did ask her for the recipe,
1:32
I thought it's baked beans with ground beef.
1:36
and Bobby said "No, mama, that's just not it."
1:39
But, so Johnny says that growing up
1:45
my mom would make this recipe for every summer barbecue
1:52
and it was always the first side dish to go.
1:55
And this has got a couple ingredients
1:57
that I would not suspect in it, Johnny.
2:00
So I thank you so much.
2:04
It calls for one 20 ounce can
2:06
of Bush's baked beans.
2:09
So that's got a lot of seasoning in it.
2:11
A 15 ounce can of tomato sauce,
2:14
two tablespoons of mustard,
2:17
a fourth of a cup of sweet barbecue sauce,
2:22
a fourth of a cup of pancake syrup,
2:26
and one packet of dry onion soup mix.
2:33
And I've got one and a half pounds of ground beef
2:37
that Theresa just cooked it off
2:41
and drained it for us.
2:48
and I found this crock that is so cute for cooking beans.
2:54
And because of its height
2:57
it will probably take a little while
2:58
for those beans to cook in those beans to cook in that,
3:01
so I'm gonna cook 'em in a 13 by nine by two,
3:11
in a stoneware bean crock
3:15
mix together the mustard, the barbecue sauce,
3:18
the tomato sauce, syrup and onion soup mix
3:22
until the soup mix is dissolved.
3:24
So that is what we gonna do, Johnny.
3:27
Where is Johnny from, does it say?
3:36
It doesn't say, does it?
3:42
Okay, so here goes the mustard,
3:46
and I always put mustard in my baked beans,
3:52
Okay, my 15 ounce can of tomato sauce.
4:12
So we're gonna get all the liquids mixed up real well.
4:16
And a fourth of a cup
4:17
of that sweet barbecue sauce.
4:25
And a fourth of a cup of pancake syrup.
4:31
And you know what I'm talking about.
4:39
And then last but not least
4:40
our envelope of onion soup mix.
4:46
That's the one that we mix with sour cream
4:47
and make for our potato chips.
4:54
Ooh, that onion soup gives it a,
4:59
gives it a whole different smell,
5:03
you know, Theresa, you're not expecting that smell.
5:06
- [Theresa] I know, (indistinct).
5:13
gonna add the baked beans.
5:19
- [Theresa] This looks so good.
5:21
- I know, I just can't wait to have some.
5:23
And I can't wait to take some to Bobby.
5:27
- [Theresa] And see if it matches.
5:30
- Uh-huh, if it's anything like he remembers
5:39
I might not of got a big enough bowl.
5:43
Let's see if I can make it happen.
5:50
And that was a pound and a half of beef, wasn't it?
5:54
- [Theresa] Yes, ma'am.
5:55
It might have been a smidge.
5:58
- [Theresa] No short actually,
6:01
but not enough to tell.
6:02
- Yeah, not enough to make a difference.
6:15
So I always put a lot of diced onion in my beans
6:24
so that onion soup is gonna take the place
6:29
of that good old onion flavor
6:34
without having to dice up onions.
6:39
Cry while you doing it.
6:50
And Johnny doesn't say to,
6:52
but I think I'm gonna just spray our pan
6:54
'cause sometimes baked beans can get a little stickery.
7:20
I can see why this would be a favorite, Theresa.
7:26
Eddie, that looks good, doesn't it?
7:29
- [Theresa] I see dinner in our future.
7:35
- [Theresa] It's funny that he calls this a side dish,
7:37
'cause I could call that dinner.
7:40
- Well, Katherine, my friend always served it
7:46
So you wanna stick that in the oven, Theresa?
7:48
- [Theresa] Absolutely.
7:50
How long does it say?
7:52
- Let's see, he said cook it for,
7:55
it really depends on the pot
7:56
that you're cooking it in, y'all.
7:59
If you're cooking it in a chunky deep pot like that
8:03
it would take longer.
8:04
But Johnny said bake at 350
8:09
Here we go 350 for an hour.
8:13
These baked beans smell so good.
8:15
It's amazing the french onion soup,
8:20
what the smell and the flavors do
8:25
to a pan of baked beans.
8:27
And Johnny you said you started watching my COVID videos
8:36
when we all were kind of under house arrest,
8:40
and you said that you find yourself
8:43
even now that it's over that you're still watching.
8:45
He said "Please y'all, don't,
8:48
"Paula, don't quit doing 'em."
8:49
Johnny, as long as I got a breath in me
8:52
I'm gonna stand up here and do these,
8:54
'cause I love interacting with y'all,
8:57
so thank you so much.
8:59
I can't wait to get this over to Bobby's house,
9:06
and tell me if it's what he remembers.
9:11
These are hot as a three dollar pistol honey.
9:17
This would take the skin off my mouth.
9:49
It's so good, Johnny.
9:53
I can't wait for Bobby to try it.
9:55
So thank you, honey for sending us in
9:59
some of the good memories that you have
10:01
when your mom was doing all the cooking.
10:06
And I love the fact that I can share it
10:09
with the rest of the world for you.
10:13
Love and best dishes.
