Today, you know, fall's in the air.
0:07
It might be two degrees cooler here in Savannah
0:11
but Lulu is running through here.
0:14
She just went out and pooped and she came in.
0:17
She is begging for a treat
0:20
and you gave it to her, didn't you, Theresa?
0:21
- [Theresa] I did because I finally got permission
0:24
Normally, she's beat me to, somebody's beat me to-
0:26
- Well, she did a good job.
0:28
She just did a good job.
0:31
So today, I going to share with y'all
0:33
some recipes have gotten five star consistently
0:41
and as always, they are tasty, easy and quick.
0:47
So this recipe is an apple baked beans
0:53
and it truly is apple season.
0:57
So I wanna take advantage
1:00
of all those wonderful fresh apples coming in.
1:03
So we're gonna start with two cans of baked beans.
1:12
My family loves baked beans
1:16
and Linton will eat every piece of bacon off the top of it.
1:23
That boy loves him some bacon.
1:25
So I'm gonna put a cup of diced apples, chopped apples
1:32
and this is gonna make it so,
1:37
so juicy and give it that little bit of sweet tart taste
1:43
and I'm gonna add my brown sugar.
1:47
I'm gonna add my onions.
1:51
And baked beans are just not baked beans without the onions.
2:00
And we finish up with one tablespoon of mustard.
2:11
That looks like a tablespoon.
2:19
So just stir that up real good.
2:22
And we're gonna put it in our two quart casserole dish
2:26
and I'm gonna spray that dish
2:28
because sometimes baked beans are sticky
2:36
and we don't want 'em to stick.
2:43
And my teaspoon of salt.
3:14
Okey-doke, just that simple.
3:25
Ooh and it's filling up this two quart perfect.
3:36
Now, the recipe tells you, excuse me, the recipe tells you
3:43
to just lay full strips of bacon on top
3:46
but I don't really care to do that
3:50
because that means probably only four people
3:54
are gonna get a piece of bacon.
3:56
So I take my scissors
4:01
and I cut it in maybe an inch and a half wide
4:21
and we're just gonna cover the top.
4:27
So everybody's gonna get a piece of, piece of pig.
4:33
Therese? - [Theresa] Yes ma'am?
4:34
- You wanna throw this in the oven, honey?
4:38
And we're gonna cook this covered.
4:41
So if you would, nevermind, I think I got it.
4:47
I got stuff all over.
4:48
- This actually says covered.
4:49
- Yeah. - 45, oh covered for 45 and-
4:51
- Yeah, I thought that was what I said
4:56
but sometimes my mouth can trick me, y'all.
5:00
So we're gonna bake that for 45 minutes covered
5:02
and then we're gonna take the cover off
5:03
for the last 15 minutes
5:05
and so that'll be an hour total cooking time.
5:10
Look at our baked beans, y'all.
5:14
Don't those look beautiful?
5:17
I'm gonna sit 'em right here, Eddie, and let 'em be cooling.
5:23
Now, when you cook baked beans,
5:24
when you cover 'em to me, they can cook,
5:31
you can cook 'em a lot longer than the 45 minutes
5:34
or the hour that it says because with the cover on,
5:38
it keeps every bit of the juice in the dish
5:42
and I like for mine to kinda
5:45
get a little candied-like to 'em.
5:47
So I left those in there probably 30 minutes
5:51
after we took the lid off.
5:54
So you do whatever you need to do, however you like it.
5:59
These look so good, y'all.
6:04
And I'm gonna come in.
6:08
I want, you know I want me a piece of that bacon
6:12
but I don't wanna burn my mouth off either.
6:16
Like I said, we could've cooked these
6:20
probably another 30 minutes.
6:21
You can't overcook baked beans.
6:27
So I'm gonna see if I can do this without.
6:31
- [Theresa] Tearing up your mouth.
6:32
- Taking the skin off my mouth.
6:46
They're wonderful as a side for hamburgers, hot dogs
6:52
or barbecue chicken or ribs along with some coleslaw.
6:57
You just can't beat it.
7:00
And now that the weather's cooling off,
7:03
it would be a great time
7:07
to put one of those Boston butts on your grill
7:10
and cook it for three, four or five hours
7:14
and have it along with these wonderful baked beans.
7:23
The only thing about baked beans
7:25
is the more you eat, the more you toot.
7:31
- [Theresa] Absolutely.
7:33
- I can't remember the saying but it's some kind of rhyme
7:38
You just make sure everybody else eats baked beans
7:43
so then you won't know who to blame it on.
