Today, y'all, we're gonna do how to caramelize an onion

Caramelized onions have got the most intense, particular flavor to them, way more so than a raw onion

I'm gonna start with two nice, big, sweet onions that I'm gonna cut into rings, and then I'm gonna cut them in half

Now, I would really recommend that y'all do this on a Monday, because they keep so well

You can put them in your refrigerator, and this is the perfect element to add into any soups or sauces, tomato sauce

You can spread it on sandwiches. You can make onion jams. There's a million things that you can do with a caramelized onion

But first, you've got to get a caramelized onion, so here's how we're going to do it

Medium-high temperature, y'all, to start with, and I'm going to add just enough olive oil to coat the bottom of our pan

This will take a couple of minutes to heat up, and you've got to cook this slow

We're going to go high for a little bit, just a few minutes, and once it starts to sweat and brown we going to turn it down to a simmer and let it do its thing It probably 20 25 minutes 30 minutes When it starts to brown and you think golly I burning my onions that a caramelized onion

Work it off nice and slow at an even temperature. Put it in your fridge for the rest of the week

I'm gonna let this go for maybe five minutes or so. I'm gonna stir it around at this high temperature

and I'm gonna turn it down and let it go slow and low for about 20 to 25 minutes
