- What's everybody's favorite side dish at Thanksgiving?
0:07
Besides macaroni and cheese besides dressing?
0:12
It's that green bean casserole.
0:16
So, you know, it's been around for a hundred years
0:25
and y'all know what I'm talking about,
0:26
where you use the canned green beans.
0:29
Well, I'm gonna make one using fresh green beans
0:34
and where did I put them?
0:38
I got a bag from the grocery store of the fresh
0:42
and I just snapped them
0:44
and I have cooked them in a chicken stock
0:50
and I probably cooked them 15 minutes, 20 minutes.
0:54
The recipe will tell you 10,
0:56
but for my green bean casserole,
0:59
I don't want a crispy bean in it.
1:02
You know, I want it to feel like it's done.
1:05
So there's our green beans
1:09
and I've got some fresh mushrooms
1:11
and I'm just gonna roughly chop these.
1:16
I guess I need to cut my eye on, don't I?
1:19
If I want that butter to melt.
1:22
Mama told me that it would melt better
1:24
if you turn your eye on.
1:30
All right, so there we go. Just really rough, rough.
1:34
So I've got my mushrooms, I've got my onion,
1:39
and I've got my can of, cream of mushroom soup.
1:44
And I've got my fried green onions, the crispy fried onions.
1:48
Now where most people put this on the top,
1:50
this is going in the center of mine.
1:55
That onion flavor's gonna get all in there real good, y'all.
1:59
And this, this is so not hard.
2:06
I mean, it'll take you five minutes to snap up
2:08
one bag of green beans,
2:12
but it makes all the difference in the world versus canned.
2:18
But if you're gonna use a canned green bean,
2:21
I like to drain them, rinse them in the can,
2:25
you know, rinse them and then I'll add a little,
2:29
maybe a teaspoon of vinegar to the last can of water
2:34
and just let it soak.
2:35
And that vinegar will help get out that canny taste.
2:40
So that's just a tip if you want to use the can.
2:44
All right, I've got third of us stick a butter,
2:49
but I swear it looks bigger than that,
2:51
it looks like more than that.
2:52
But Theresa said no, so,
2:57
- [Theresa] Well the whole stick is a half half.
2:59
- If, how much butter does this recipe call for?
3:06
- [Theresa] Oh, you might need to put,
3:07
cut it down a little bit more then.
3:09
- I think you might be onto to something, Theresa.
3:12
- [Theresa] Well, you like butter, so why would that matter?
3:14
- I do. Well, I just knew that it was.
3:19
I could look at it and tell.
3:22
So I'm gonna pull that much out.
3:26
And we'll use that for something else.
3:29
It won't go to waste y'all, I promise.
3:32
All right, so in go our onions.
3:38
(utensils clattering)
3:43
Yeah, I think that's plenty of butter
3:50
Heck, who knows? We might need all of that butter.
3:55
All right, so these have drained,
3:58
I'm gonna throw those in there.
4:06
a teaspoon of house seasoning.
4:17
So I'm gonna throw those over our green beans.
4:23
And now we're gonna add our cream of mushroom soup.
4:45
I think y'all gonna like this.
4:47
I think you'll like it better with the fresh green beans
4:51
instead of the canned.
4:54
All right, now, my onion rings.
4:59
Gosh, I love those little things.
5:05
We're just gonna stir all that together
5:09
and we going to put it like 350 degrees and we'll bake it.
5:17
You know, until it's hot and bubbly. Maybe 20 minutes.
5:21
And then we're gonna top it with our cheese
5:28
and let it bake until the cheese melts on top.
5:31
Yeah, it's good. I think y'all gonna like it.
5:35
Eddie's licking his lips.
5:37
Did I just see you licking your lips, Eddie?
5:40
Or you licking them 'cause it's dry?
5:44
- [Eddie] I had some cinnamon on there.
5:46
- Oh, you had some cinnamon on your lips?
5:57
And the family is gonna love it.
6:03
In fact, I'm betting that they won't,
6:06
won't want the green bean casserole any other way.
6:10
Once you serve it like this, it's my bet.
6:25
Okay, so in the oven that goes
6:30
until hot and bubbly.
6:34
And then we got that wonderful green bean casserole, y'all.
6:39
Thanksgiving is coming.
6:41
All right, our casserole is cooked
6:44
for about 15 to 20 minutes.
6:46
Now I'm just gonna top it with this cheese
6:52
and put it back in for maybe 10 minutes
6:56
just until that's good and melted.
7:01
And it'll be time to eat.
7:21
I think that you are gonna like this so much.
7:34
In fact, I think you'll like it so much
7:36
that you might want to actually share this recipe
7:51
rather than just being on top are so good mixed in,
7:55
sends that flavor everywhere.
8:13
you can use any kind of cheese you want.
8:16
Just so happens I have lots of mozzarella,
8:18
so that's what I used.
8:20
But any kind of cheese.
8:25
