- Hey y'all, it's Jamie Deen.
0:01
I'm back here at mama's house and happy Thanksgiving.
0:04
And you know what I'm thankful for?
0:07
Appreciate you tuning in today, I am thankful for my family.
0:09
One more month and our son comes home for school.
0:14
And Brooke is so excited to have Jack home.
0:16
He's doing so well, but we miss him so much.
0:19
So add him coming home to the very top
0:21
of our thankful list this year.
0:23
This recipe is gonna make your top 10 too, y'all.
0:26
This is my Aunt Trina's pumpkin crunch
0:30
and it's very simple to do.
0:32
It's like a deconstructed cake.
0:34
We're gonna start with a can of pureed pumpkin,
0:38
and all this stuff is gonna go in at the same time.
0:42
So our Thanksgivings down here, sometimes they're warm
0:45
and sometimes they're cool.
0:46
But Jack is in a part of the country where it is not mild.
0:50
It is very cold up there.
0:52
And I know Jack's looking forward to getting back
0:55
to some southern temperatures.
0:56
Now into this, we're gonna add
0:58
a whole can of our evaporated milk.
1:02
I've got some cinnamon that's going in here.
1:07
Get this cleaned off.
1:08
And then we're gonna add our sugar,
1:13
evaporated milk, pumpkin, cinnamon, and sugar.
1:16
I'm gonna whip this together
1:18
and get this incorporated really well.
1:20
Before I add our last ingredient here,
1:25
Thanksgiving, I know mama's told y'all
1:27
about how many times we go to our uncle Bernie's house
1:29
in Statesboro, and it's so funny,
1:32
the memories that you have as a child
1:34
are always the ones that I think about,
1:38
those weeks that we had with our Uncle Bernie
1:41
in Statesboro and how fun that was
1:42
just to be young with our family.
1:44
And we try to recreate that every year.
1:47
Our Uncle Bernie's been gone a long time.
1:49
Fun, food, and family will do it though.
1:51
Now I've got this mixed together, I'm gonna add our eggs.
1:56
And you know, Theresa's gonna see
1:58
that all of this stuff is put online,
2:00
'cause I'm not real good at measuring
2:03
and telling y'all stuff.
2:06
We've got a greased pan here, so our batter,
2:11
we're gonna pour right in here.
2:20
Now this is the fun part.
2:23
So now that we've got all this incorporated in here,
2:25
we're gonna go into our cake mix,
2:28
I've just got a classic yellow cake mix here,
2:30
and we're gonna sprinkle this evenly over the top.
2:37
I'm not gonna stir this in.
2:39
We're just gonna put this right on the top.
2:41
All this will bake in together.
2:47
This is just gonna be like a crumble, y'all,
2:51
And the Lord knows we need some easy
2:53
around this time of year, because so many of our recipes,
2:56
this is the biggest cooking day of the year.
2:58
And I know my Aunt Glen has spent forever
3:01
trying to get everything done in the kitchen.
3:04
We're gonna put our pecans over the top.
3:13
And lastly, I know that this is two sticks of butter
3:17
that we're gonna spread evenly over the top.
3:21
Now don't y'all know that this is gonna be good?
3:29
Sure does seem like an awful lot of butter.
3:33
It's mama's house, it's her rules.
3:36
My Aunt Trina was fond of butter too.
3:39
See how easy that is, y'all,
3:41
and I did it all while I was talking.
3:43
So this is gonna go into the oven.
3:45
350 degrees for how long, Theresa?
3:48
- [Theresa] 50 to 60 minutes.
3:50
- About an hour in the oven.
3:52
Cooks about an hour in the oven.
3:53
Look how cool that looks.
3:54
Hey, y'all, stick around 60 minutes, we'll see what we got.
3:58
Hey y'all, one more thing.
3:59
While that cake is in the oven,
4:00
we're gonna go ahead and do our frosting.
4:02
Now you have two ways that you can do this.
4:04
After you prepare this frosting,
4:05
I'm gonna stick it in the refrigerator.
4:07
You can completely cool your crumble
4:10
and then apply it all to the top.
4:12
Or you can do it in dollops as you serve it out.
4:15
Today, we're probably gonna do it in dollops,
4:17
but we're gonna make it.
4:18
Okay, we got our cream cheese that we've whipped up.
4:21
We want to get this light, beat a little bit of air into it.
4:26
But we've got our whipping cream
4:27
that we're gonna add slowly here and incorporate it all.
4:35
So this is a simple cream cheese icing that we're gonna do
4:37
with basically a homemade whipped cream,
4:39
'cause we're gonna add our powdered sugar after this.
4:43
See, what are the chances of me staying clean through this?
4:59
You know, homemade whipped cream is so easy to do
5:01
with your whipping cream and your powdered sugar
5:03
or your granulated sugar at the house.
5:07
I've always found that making a homemade whipped cream
5:13
A real tip on that is, chill the bowl
5:15
that you're gonna whip your cream in.
5:16
Get your whipping cream and add your sugar,
5:18
we're doing powdered sugar here today.
5:20
And of course, this has got cream cheese in it, too,
5:23
but you can make your own homemade whipped topping,
5:26
and you can buy any dessert from the store
5:31
and really set it off by topping it
5:33
with your homemade cream.
5:34
Gives it a homemade flavor.
5:37
I'm not gonna say that y'all would like to trick people,
5:44
but homemade whipped cream really does add good flavors
5:49
to your store bought desserts.
5:53
Finally, I'm gonna add a little bit of cinnamon in here.
6:00
You can over beat your homemade whipped cream,
6:02
it will break completely back down.
6:06
So once we get that worked in there,
6:08
we're gonna turn it off.
6:12
Let's get us a, excuse me.
6:22
Ooh, now don't you know that this is good, cream cheese,
6:24
powdered sugar, whipped cream, and a little bit of cinnamon.
6:31
Now all we have to do is be patient
6:33
and wait for our dessert.
6:35
Mm, it's delicious, don't go anywhere.
6:38
Hey y'all, it's been, took a little bit more than an hour,
6:41
but aunt Trina's pumpkin crumble bake is out of the oven.
6:45
I have cooled this piece down because,
6:47
see our whipped topping that we have,
6:49
I didn't want it to melt too quick, so,
6:52
oh, this is set up perfect.
7:00
Let's take it for a test drive.
7:02
Look, I'm meeting a friend later today.
7:05
I put him up some so I can share it with him.
7:08
He's from Albany too, and he loves good pumpkin stuff.
7:21
I tell y'all what, it's delicious.
7:25
This whipped topping on top is so good,
7:29
has the cream cheese, it gives it some body.
7:33
Mm, you could spread this all over the whole top
7:35
or do it by a dollop here.
7:38
As long as you do one of those two things, you'll win.
7:41
I'm thankful for y'all and this good food.
7:44
I'm Jamie Deen, I'll see you around the kitchen.
7:50
