0:01
Can you believe we're on day 4
0:04
for the 12 days of Christmas cookies?
0:08
And, ooo, I'm gonna be making some good ones today.
0:10
And look, as soon as I say cookies,
0:13
who walks in but my cousin George,
0:16
who has the sweet tooth like this big.
0:20
I can't keep cookies when he's around.
0:22
He's here visiting with his mama, my Aunt Peggy,
0:26
and he loves it on the days that I shoot and make cookies,
0:32
- [George] I'm just kind of waiting right now.
0:34
I wish you would get to it.
0:35
- I can't believe I say, "Cookies,"
0:37
and you just magically appeared. (laughs)
0:40
But before we get started, y'all,
0:41
I got a early Christmas gift
0:46
If you have never been to Williamsburg
0:51
and had the opportunity to watch a real,
0:56
what would you call 'em?
1:02
Eddie, what would you call them?
1:06
- Like reenactors or- - No.
1:08
I mean they do, Williamsburg reenacts,
1:12
but they have- (George speaking indistinctly)
1:17
But why is the word escaping me?
1:23
- Ironsmith. Blacksmith. - A blacksmith. Thank you.
1:27
Thank you. I just couldn't think of that word.
1:31
But these people are from Ohio
1:34
and it's Lockhart Ironworks LLC.
1:40
Like I said, I think I said Ohio, right?
1:43
- And they sent me these most beautiful
1:51
hand forged, I guess you would say.
1:54
- Love the handles. - I know.
1:59
I think they do custom.
2:00
I think they can do anything that you want.
2:04
And they're pre-seasoned
2:07
They said, "You can use this for everything."
2:08
And it's great for cobblers, that would be wonderful.
2:13
And you know, they're easy care.
2:15
But I just wanted to thank Doug and Birdie
2:20
for sending me this beautiful set of handmade cookware.
2:32
Again, I wanna thank Doug and Birdie and the whole family.
2:38
But now it's time to get onto our fourth cookie
2:45
for the 12 days of Christmas.
2:49
Where's my butter dish?
2:52
- [Eddie] Oh, over there on the counter.
3:00
- Can't do without my butter dish, y'all.
3:05
You know I'm gonna get on that butter and all that.
3:10
I'm gonna get it all.
3:15
So we got two sticks of butter in these cookies
3:18
and we are making gumdrop cookies
3:25
and we were lucky enough to find gumdrops that are spiced.
3:32
Oh my gosh, I love the red ones.
3:35
And, of course, the green ones tastes like mint
3:39
and the red part, the red gumdrops, tastes like cinnamon
3:51
let me move my water,
3:52
the first step, I'm gonna take our flour
3:55
and it's plain flour.
4:02
Soda, baking soda and baking powder
4:08
and that's gonna make some fat cookies.
4:12
So I'm gonna take my whisk.
4:15
And that's almost the same thing as,
4:18
you know, sifting your flour.
4:20
So that works real good.
4:23
All right, so I'm going to take our two sticks of butter,
4:29
our white sugar and our brown sugar
4:34
and I'm going beep this for about three or four minutes
4:38
until it's nice and creamy
4:41
and now I'm gonna add our eggs
4:44
and I'm gonna add it one egg at the time.
4:49
Made it both go in. (beater buzzing)
4:53
Now I'm gonna add my vanilla,
4:58
and I'm going to add a teaspoon,
5:05
a mighty, a mighty teaspoon.
5:09
That wasn't no skint teaspoon, y'all.
5:22
Okay, our next step is we're gonna slowly,
5:25
kinda slowly, add the flour to the wet.
5:50
And you wanna mix it until it's just combined.
5:54
All right, our next step is to add our oatmeal
6:02
and this is a good time to bring your partner in
6:11
And last but not least,
6:14
our chopped up gum drops.
6:23
This is kind of a workout for your arms.
6:27
I'm gonna get strong. (chuckling)
6:37
I am gonna have one muscle arm and one flab arm. (laughing)
6:43
All right, I'm just gonna do this over,
6:48
just so it won't stick and I'm gonna spray
6:59
and I'm going to just drop these by the tables.
7:07
That's probably a nice little tablespoon.
7:17
We want about two inches apart.
7:21
It's gonna be pretty with the colors, isn't y'all?
7:29
- Yes. (Eddie speaking indistinctly)
7:31
- I'm putting these in the oven on 350
7:38
for 9 to 11 minutes, y'all.
7:44
So our cookies have cooled
7:48
and I wanna just tell you a little bit about this cookie.
7:52
You're gonna find that it's not overly sweet,
8:00
and Eddie said it reminded him of a scone.
8:03
- [Eddie] Yeah, a little bit.
8:04
- And it is a little bit like a scone, definitely.
8:07
This would be wonderful if breakfast with a cup of coffee,
8:10
wouldn't it, Eddie? - Yes.
8:14
- So, if you into cookies that are not very sweet,
8:22
And look at these beautiful plates.
8:27
Gail Pitman made these for me.
8:32
I wonder what Gail is up to now.
8:34
It's been years since I have chatted with her,
8:40
but she did some gorgeous work and every one are signed,
8:48
so we'll enjoy putting our cookies on those,
8:52
I hope you're doing well, Gail.
8:55
And let me be the first, maybe,
8:57
to say Merry Christmas to you.
9:00
Me and all my friends wish you a merry Christmas.
9:05
The cookies are delicious.
9:15
