0:03
I'm gonna pretend like today is the day after Thanksgiving,
0:08
and I'm saying, "Oh gosh, what can I do
0:11
with all this leftover turkey?"
0:13
Well, I'm gonna show y'all.
0:14
This is a Gobbler Cobbler Pie recipe,
0:19
and it's a great way to use up
0:22
some of that turkey that you had left over.
0:26
And I've tried to make this real simple for y'all.
0:31
I have my bell peppers, my mushrooms, my onions
0:37
that I have sauteed right here.
0:40
And it calls for one box of wild rice,
0:45
which I have it cooked and cooled.
0:52
And after you get these things done,
0:54
all you have to do is just put it together.
1:01
All right, that rice looks very good.
1:04
And we're gonna put some water chestnuts in it
1:09
for a nice crunch, I love that.
1:11
We've got three cups of leftover turkey,
1:14
and we've got one can of French style green beans
1:18
that we're gonna put in it.
1:20
We have one cup of sour cream,
1:22
and about an equal cup of mayonnaise.
1:29
put this in a nine inch greased, prepared pie plate.
1:36
And then we're gonna have a wonderful crust on top of it
1:40
that I'm gonna share with y'all
1:42
after we get this all put together.
1:45
It's gonna be a good after Thanksgiving day.
1:48
So we're gonna add our rice to our vegetables.
1:58
And the wild rice is just really gonna make this good.
2:06
All right, we're gonna add our water chestnuts.
2:12
Like I said, they don't have a bunch of flavor,
2:14
but they have that crunch that I like in a recipe.
2:18
So, we'll stir those in.
2:23
We'll stir together our green beans,
2:25
I want to make sure that they're drained well.
2:29
You think you're draining, but when you go to drain,
2:33
there's always a little bit more liquid.
2:43
I'm just gonna stir all this together.
2:47
I'm gonna add my turkey,
2:52
so this is gonna be nice and meaty.
2:58
And this dish freezes well, too.
3:06
All right, now we're gonna add
3:09
our wet ingredients, which is a cup of sour cream.
3:16
And I have a half a cup of mayonnaise here
3:19
and I'm gonna measure out another half a cup,
3:23
giving us a full cup of mayonnaise.
3:35
And I've got one teaspoon of poultry seasoning
3:40
that I'm gonna sprinkle in all of our ingredients.
3:43
And that gives it just a little extra
3:48
turkey or chicken flavor.
3:52
All right, I need another half a cup of mayonnaise
4:13
If you're not a big mayonnaise fan,
4:15
you could maybe double
4:20
the sour cream in it.
4:24
This looks like a bunch of ingredients, doesn't it?
4:30
And I don't think that all this is going fit
4:35
in a nine inch pie pan, y'all.
4:49
I think it's perfect, and I hadn't added
4:51
any salt to this, y'all.
4:54
All right, so I've got my prepared pie plate,
4:58
and I'm gonna put as much in here,
5:03
and I'll move this so you can see.
5:09
I'll move this over here.
5:14
This is really, really a tasty dish, y'all.
5:19
Now I've got one cup of cheddar cheese
5:25
that I'm going to stream on top of that.
5:31
And we gonna make a wonderful crust now
5:34
and put on top of that.
5:36
And I am using a refrigerated pie dough,
5:41
and I'm just gonna roll this out a little bit.
5:58
And then I'm gonna be cutting this in strips
6:02
because we're gonna make a lattice top for our pie.
6:12
with our longest pieces of pie crust, like this
6:19
And then we'll go smaller
6:21
as we get to the edges,
6:27
I'm gonna need one more shorter piece
6:32
over here, just like that.
6:36
All right we're going to start latticing this, y'all,
6:39
by laying back two of the strips.
6:53
Let's see, I need a shorter piece
6:58
so I may see if I can re-roll this.
7:07
No, I don't know if that's gonna work,
7:12
Can't, never could. It's not big enough.
7:16
All right, so here we go.
7:21
And you can make these strips as wide as you want
7:25
or as narrow as you want.
7:31
All right, so now we're gonna lay those back,
7:36
and then we're gonna come back
7:40
and lay our next piece back
7:47
and come in with that.
7:49
And then we're just gonna keep doing that
7:53
until we've got the whole pie
7:57
covered in a pie crust.
8:00
See? So it's really easy.
8:03
It's not hard at all.
8:09
You are looking good here.
8:14
So after you get the hang of it,
8:15
it really, really is easy.
8:18
And like I said, if you'd prefer to use puff pastry,
8:26
I'm gonna fill in like that just a little bit.
8:31
Now I'm gonna take my one beaten egg...
8:37
and I'm gonna brush it lightly onto our pie crust.
8:48
And this is gonna give it a beautiful sheen.
8:51
Now we're gonna be putting this in our oven
8:55
at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
9:01
Of course it really depends on your oven
9:06
as to exactly how long you leave it in.
9:12
That looks like it's all covered, doesn't it, Eddie.
9:15
- [Eddie] Looks good.
9:23
Gobbler Cobbler Pie, y'all.
9:26
A great way to use up any leftover turkey.
9:33
Our Gobbler Cobbler looks too good to cut into, Eddie.
9:38
Now I set this on the counter,
9:40
and I mean I really let it get to room temperature.
9:48
a little bit cooler than what I really wanted it.
9:53
But look at that flaky crust.
9:56
So it's really got everything,
9:58
your rice, your starch, your veggies.
10:08
And it is really, really delicious.
10:18
And this freezes real well, y'all.
10:21
I would leave out the crust
10:23
if you're gonna put in the freezer
10:25
and make some make-ahead meals.
10:29
I wouldn't put the crust on it
10:30
until after I took it out of the freezer
10:32
and partially thaw it out and then do the crust.
10:36
And like I said, you can do a refrigerated pie crust,
10:54
- [Eddie] Puff pastry.
10:59
So you can use the refrigerated pie crust
11:06
And either one of them will work nicely.
11:08
The puff pastry will just get thicker,
11:13
where this one stays thin.
11:20
Look how pretty it is.
11:22
I can almost cut it, Eddie.
11:26
But like I said, it's really gotten
11:28
completely to room temperature now.
11:32
Probably wouldn't cut as nice.
11:34
When I pulled it out of the oven it was boiling.
11:38
