0:00
- I'm starting to cry.
0:04
This is the 11th day of Christmas cookies, isn't it Theresa?
0:10
- 11, which means just one more.
0:15
And the next cookie I'm making.
0:25
I love, love, love gingerbread men.
0:28
And there was a lady that, I think it was in North Carolina,
0:33
she made the most incredible gingerbread, boys and girls.
0:44
I didn't, I didn't get the recipe.
0:46
I don't know that she would even share it
0:48
'cause I think she may sell 'em.
0:49
But I've tried to reproduce it, but I couldn't do it.
0:54
All right, so let's start with ginger snaps, y'all.
0:57
I am using a solid shortening,
1:02
and you can buy them, you know, in sticks, which I love
1:06
'cause I never like digging
1:08
in the solid shortening bucket
1:11
and trying to measure it out.
1:14
and it's marked so it's easy to count.
1:21
All right, so we're just gonna beat this up real good.
1:29
Now I have beat that for three to four minutes
1:34
and you know, remember to scrape the sides of your bowl.
1:41
And now I'm going to beat in my one egg
1:48
And then I'm gonna stop
1:49
and I'm gonna add our molasses,
1:51
which looks like motor oil, doesn't it?
2:00
All right, those are molasses.
2:04
All right, now we've got our sparkling sugar.
2:09
And when I'm ready to put these on the baking sheet,
2:14
I'm gonna roll 'em all in that sparkling sugar.
2:18
And here we've got flour.
2:23
I don't want to get mixed up on these.
2:26
We've got two and a third cup of all purpose flour.
2:30
I've got one tablespoon of ground ginger.
2:36
I've got two teaspoons of baking soda,
2:43
and I've got two teaspoons of cinnamon.
2:48
because one of these is going into the sparkling sugar,
2:52
and the other teaspoon is going into our flour.
2:58
And now I've got my salt.
3:00
And last but not least,
3:08
So these, these cookies
3:10
have a wonderful, distinct flavor.
3:20
I wish I could pin down that recipe
3:22
for gingerbread people.
3:35
Have a feeling this makes about 30,
3:38
30 cookies, if I remember correctly.
3:41
So I'm going to just add my dry to my wet.
3:54
And I'm going to kind of do it a little bit at a time.
4:01
This is gonna be real thick.
4:04
And you know, I always spray.
4:13
And then I've got cinnamon and my sparkling sugar.
4:26
And that cinnamon's gonna give it
4:27
a little different color, you know?
4:38
they're going to crinkle, you know what I mean?
4:44
When they bake and start spreading.
4:47
All right, here's what they look like
4:50
after they've had the sanding sugar rolled on them.
4:54
- [Camera Operator] Like Munchkins.
4:57
- [Camera Operator] Like Dunkin' Donuts.
4:59
It looks like donut holes, doesn't it?
5:10
And it said we would get 30.
5:15
So my scooper was a little bit bigger.
5:21
And I can't hardly wait to taste these.
5:29
It's probably been a year,
5:32
a full year since I made gingerbread.
5:42
375 for about 13 minutes.
5:44
Yes'm you gotta help me taste.
5:51
Y'all may think I got a bunch of cousins.
5:54
We have a very small family,
5:56
but I've got another cousin here
5:59
that's here for a while.
6:02
And so I'm gonna ask him.
6:04
You got your teeth in?
6:10
I have been aggravating this man for.
6:15
- No, it's been longer than that now.
6:18
How many years older than I been?
6:20
- You're a little more than two years old.
6:22
- That's what I thought.
6:23
That's what I thought. - Yeah, yeah.
6:25
But we've had so much fun too.
6:27
- Yes we have. - Yeah.
6:27
- And you have taken the kidding like a man, honey.
6:34
You've taken my domain.
6:35
- Well you need to when you.
6:36
- [Paula] But you can dish it back too.
6:38
- Well I'm pretty good at it, but not as good as you.
6:41
I gotta say ginger snaps
6:45
remind me of my childhood.
6:50
- Because Grandma used to make them,
6:53
and it was a special cookie always around the holidays.
6:58
- Now, which grandmother?
7:02
- Okay, I was gonna say
7:03
I never a remember Grandma Harris make a gingersnap.
7:07
And it was not a favorite cookie of mine,
7:10
although it was a special cookie around all holidays.
7:15
This is a special ginger snap.
7:19
- Good, thank you cousin.
7:21
Thank you for taking my joking, pulling me.
7:29
- I love you too Don.
7:31
And I love y'all out there.
7:33
And what was this cookie number 11?
7:36
- [Theresa] Yes ma'am.
7:38
- I'm going to cry when I get to the 12th one,
7:41
'cause it's gonna be over.
7:47
I think of all the recipes that I've shared, Don.
7:51
- These are the most rewarding
7:52
because I get to taste some wonderful cookies.
7:59
- But I'm saying love and best dishes
8:01
to all y'all out there.
8:03
We got one more to go.
8:04
And I hadn't tasted a bomb yet.
8:12
Hey, y'all, it's Paula Deen.
