- Y'all, I've told you
0:01
how many wonderful people I meet
0:05
when I'm at our different restaurants
0:08
and having book signings
0:09
and it's just wonderful, wonderful meeting all of you folks.
0:15
Well, this past weekend in Pigeon Forge,
0:20
I met a woman
0:23
and her name is Tammy Reynolds
0:30
and Tammy lives in Anna, Ohio.
0:34
So Tammy says, thank you so much for asking about myself
0:38
and for the drop sugar cookie recipe.
0:42
They are the best.
0:45
And she wants to bake for a living,
0:49
but she actually works in a Honda factory.
0:56
But for now, she just gets to bake on the weekends,
0:58
and she takes a lot of orders for this particular cookie
1:02
from her friends at work.
1:07
And she said they'll usually order four dozen at a time.
1:11
And she said they freeze very well.
1:14
And she said, I entered these in our local fair,
1:17
and she won first place with this cookie.
1:21
And it sounds wonderful,
1:24
and it's just different
1:25
from any cookie recipe I've ever had.
1:28
And as you know, we are doing the 12 days
1:31
of Christmas cookies, and this is number nine.
1:35
So we have got two sticks of butter,
1:39
two cups, two cups of white sugar.
1:43
We're gonna need a tablespoon of vinegar,
1:47
three large eggs,
1:50
two teaspoons of soda,
1:54
two teaspoons of baking powder,
1:57
and four and a half cups of all purpose flour, sifted.
2:02
And then we're gonna need a tablespoon of vanilla,
2:05
a tablespoon of coconut flavoring,
2:07
and one cup of whole milk.
2:12
So I'm gonna go ahead and do that now.
2:15
She said we kind of did this a little bass ackwards.
2:23
All right, let's see, one tablespoon.
2:25
She said to put the flavorings in
2:27
and then fill it up with milk.
2:29
So we already had the cup milk, so I just backed off some
2:34
and I'm gonna see how close we are now
2:36
to having exactly one cup.
2:39
All right and a tablespoon of vanilla.
2:44
I like the way you think, Tammy.
2:47
I love these extracts.
2:54
Okay, let's see if I took out the right amount.
2:59
It's perfect.
3:00
We got one cup of white milk.
3:08
Okay, so that gets that.
3:11
Okay, we've got our butter.
3:14
Tammy, I hope you are watching and keep me straight, girl.
3:18
All right, so I'm gonna take our flour
3:21
and I'm gonna add our soda
3:27
and our baking powder.
3:31
And I'm gonna whisk this up,
3:33
'cause you're not, oh look, the whisk fairy came.
3:38
Thank you, whisk fairy.
3:40
(Paula laughs)
3:43
I was using one of my whisk the other day
3:48
and I saw pieces coming off
3:50
into my ingredients and they saved this.
3:57
Tammy said to sift this flower,
3:58
but I think using a whisk,
4:02
you know, it does just as well.
4:07
So I so, so enjoyed meeting Tammy
4:11
and it was so sweet of her to share her recipe
4:15
with all of us.
4:17
(mixer whirs)
4:32
So Tammy says for us to mix our sugar
4:36
and our butter together
4:38
and cream it for about three to four minutes.
4:43
Next, we're gonna add our tablespoon of vinegar.
4:57
Whoops.
5:00
That measured about like my vanilla extract.
5:05
All right, and then I'm gonna add our eggs one at the time.
5:10
And these were big eggs.
5:13
(mixer whirs)
5:35
So our flour comes next.
5:39
And she said slowly add that.
5:41
And then our milk with our extracts in it will come last.
5:48
And remember to keep your spatula handy.
5:55
All right, we've got our batter
5:58
and Tammy says to slowly add our milk
6:04
that contains our vanilla and our coconut extract.
6:10
That's it, y'all.
6:12
All right, now here's the, here's the fun part
6:16
that I find fun.
6:19
She tells us to put this in a freezer
6:24
and freeze it overnight,
6:27
but she says she's actually left it
6:29
in her freezer for a couple of weeks.
6:32
So you know, if you get busy tomorrow
6:35
after it's been 24 hours and you, something happens
6:39
and you don't have time to make it at the end of 24 hours,
6:43
you can let it go for another 24 hours.
6:47
And this is called a drop, drop sugar cookie.
6:52
And so after this freezes,
6:57
we're going to do it,
6:57
treat it just like it's ice cream,
7:00
we're gonna get an ice cream scoop and just scoop it
7:03
and bake these off.
7:05
And then they have the most wonderful sounding frosting.
7:10
And we hadn't done a frosted cookie yet
7:12
for our 12 days of Christmas cookies.
7:15
So I'm gonna be real excited about this one, Tammy.
7:18
Thank you so, so much.
7:22
All right, cookie number nine.
7:25
At the start of this video,
7:28
I made the batter,
7:31
and our instructions from Tammy
7:34
were to put this in the freezer for 24 hours.
7:38
So we made it one day and now we're gonna make,
7:42
we're gonna bake 'em off the next day.
7:45
So I've sprayed my scoop.
7:46
I've got my parchment paper
7:49
and she said just use an ice cream scoop
7:54
and dip out the frozen batter.
8:00
Which may be a little work.
8:04
She didn't tell me which size ice cream scoop to use.
8:07
So I'm kind of using a small.
8:14
So this is gonna be real interesting, Tammy.
8:23
It would work out real good if Michael
8:24
would walk in the door about right now, you know it.
8:30
My freezer freezes.
8:34
I tell you what, Tammy,
8:35
scooping out that frozen dough ain't for sissies.
8:37
Is it Theresa?
8:39
- [Theresa] No.
8:40
- Theresa jumped in and helped me.
8:41
Okay, these are going in a 350 degree oven for 13 minutes
8:45
and at this point, you could put the colored sugars,
8:49
any kind of sprinkles on it.
8:51
But she has enclosed the frosting recipe
8:54
and she said I highly recommend the frosting.
8:57
So I'm highly gonna make that frosting.
9:01
13 minutes, y'all.
9:03
Tammy, Tammy, Tammy, girl.
9:07
These look incredible.
9:11
And I think I pick up now the reason for freezing these.
9:17
First, that one stayed in maybe a minute
9:21
or maybe this one didn't stay in a minute long enough.
9:24
All right, so she said to cool 'em
9:26
on the cookie sheets for a couple of minutes
9:30
and then we're gonna take them off,
9:31
and we're gonna let them cool completely
9:34
because we're gonna make a frosting for 'em.
9:38
And you don't wanna try to frost a warm cookie.
9:42
Whoa, watch it.
9:43
Or 'cause they'll run off.
9:46
The cookies look beautiful.
9:48
But Theresa and I realized
9:49
that we did not use a big enough ice cream scoop.
9:54
We probably should have used maybe this size.
10:00
Instead we used, we didn't use that size.
10:05
Put this one down.
10:07
But this one is probably the one you want to use.
10:11
But I have turned these cookies over
10:14
so they can cool on every part of 'em
10:18
while I make the icing.
10:21
And I've got one stick of softened butter.
10:25
I've got,
10:29
let me see, half a cup of butter
10:35
and a half a cup of butter flavored shortening.
10:42
So we're just gonna cream that together.
10:47
(mixer whirs)
10:49
Tammy says to beat in one cup
10:52
of confectioner's sugar at a time.
11:03
And she actually calls for four cups of powdered sugar.
11:08
And a one pound bag is exactly four cups.
11:12
(mixer whirs)
11:22
Now I'm gonna use four tablespoons of milk.
11:28
So I'll be adding that
11:32
along with the powdered sugar.
11:38
And for some reason, a little liquid
11:40
goes a long way with powdered sugar.
11:44
I'm gonna go ahead, I think and add our vanilla
11:46
since this is the last of our ingredients.
11:49
All right, this is one teaspoon of coconut
11:54
and one teaspoon of vanilla.
12:10
Okay, now we're done.
12:14
I'm gonna add, and I hope I'm not making a mistake, Tammy,
12:17
but I'm gonna add another teaspoon, okay.
12:24
Oh, that smells good.
12:29
This frosting is gorgeous, y'all.
12:31
And I bet you, Tammy pipes hers on.
12:35
But I'm just going to put mine on with a knife
12:42
and look at here.
12:43
Now you're going to need this,
12:45
she used to put sprinkles on it.
12:48
You're gonna have to do it pretty soon,
12:50
pretty quick, because it won't stick after a few minutes.
12:57
It's going, the frosting's gonna coat over,
13:02
and then the sprinkles won't fit.
13:05
So we've used the purple, the pearls,
13:08
the green, the blue, and the coral.
13:13
So I think it's time to taste now.
13:18
Which one do y'all want me to taste?
13:22
- [Camera Operator] Coral.
13:24
- Coral.
13:25
Okay, thank y'all.
13:28
Okay, so here we go, Tammy.
13:31
You are number nine.
13:34
Is that right Theresa? - [Theresa] Yeah.
13:36
- Number nine on our cookie train.
13:39
And I appreciate so much
13:41
you sharing your favorite recipe with us.
13:54
Mm.
13:57
Tammy, this is delicious.
14:00
I love the coconut flavor.
14:04
And the icing.
14:09
You know I've said it once, but I'm gonna say it again.
14:13
Solid shortening makes for a fabulous icing.
14:19
Come pick your poison.
14:20
- [Theresa] Ohh, I can't.
14:21
I can't right this second.
14:22
- You think you type two diabetic?
14:24
- Probably.
14:25
After number nine.
14:28
- Mm, mm, mm, mm, mm.
14:33
Mm, mm, mm, mm, mm.
14:34
- [Theresa] Well, tell 'em love and best dishes.
14:36
(Paula laughs)
14:37
- I think she's rushing me.
14:39
- [Theresa] I am not.
14:42
- Okay, so I do what I'm told.
14:45
Love and best dishes, y'all.
14:47
(Theresa laughs)
14:51
