- Hey y'all,
0:02
it's beginning to smell and look
0:04
a lot like Christmas around here.
0:07
You know what I got going in here, don't you, Theresa?
0:11
I've got that turkey caucus from Thanksgiving going
0:15
and I'm removing any of the skin,
0:18
'cause I got that good seasoning out.
0:21
And now, I'm moving on over there,
0:24
I'll go help Eddie,
0:25
because you know I did a Facebook live
0:27
where Eddie and I went and picked out our Christmas tree.
0:31
Well, the Christmas elf has been working hard,
0:35
and that would be Eddie.
0:38
So, I'm fixing to go over there,
0:40
and see if I can give him a hand.
0:44
Eddie's got the lights on the tree y'all.
0:48
Look how beautiful.
0:50
I mean, look, we picked out a perfect shape, Eddie.
0:53
- Perfect.
0:54
- And those things look beautiful.
0:56
So, Eddie and I talked a little bit,
1:00
and Eddie, I forgot to tell you this,
1:04
we decided on a green and white theme
1:08
for this Christmas.
1:10
The mantle.
1:12
And you know why I love it so much, Eddie?
1:16
'Cause that was the colors I had for my wedding.
1:19
If y'all saw my wedding,
1:22
Michael and I got married on my show
1:25
and the whole church was just green and white.
1:28
And it was so beautiful,
1:30
and that's what that reminds me of.
1:35
And he's not nearly about finished.
1:37
And y'all look at these polar bears.
1:41
- Yeah, so we went and got the polar bears.
1:43
- [Paula] They were in storage.
1:45
- This, I was telling Theresa,
1:48
I saw this little tip online,
1:50
which I thought was quite ingenious,
1:53
'cause usually for the topper,
1:55
whether we do the angel or not,
1:58
we always use these picks.
2:01
And I would build and build and build.
2:04
- [Paula] What are the things it looked like snow?
2:06
- Well, it's this guy online I saw doing his tree,
2:10
and he suggested putting a wreath on top as a base.
2:14
- [Paula] Tell me that's not a wreath.
2:16
- So, there's two wreaths.
2:18
- [Paula] No.
2:19
- Medium and a small wreath.
2:20
- [Paula] No.
2:21
- That kinda.
2:22
- [Paula] Now see, I wasn't in here when he did that, y'all.
2:26
Two wreaths.
2:27
- And then I'm still gonna build.
2:28
- [Paula] But they're just alike, right?
2:30
- Well, no, there's the white wreath,
2:31
and then there's the gold wreath on top.
2:33
- [Paula] Oh, oh okay,
2:34
- See the gold?
2:35
- [Paula] Yeah, yeah, I see it now.
2:37
I thought it was more of those.
2:41
Oh, and look, we got a twinkling strand, y'all.
2:45
So, look at these polar bears, y'all,
2:48
I bought these in Nashville, Tennessee.
2:51
The Grand Old Opry was having some kind of Frozen show,
2:57
out by the restaurant,
2:58
where our restaurant is now.
3:00
And Jack was maybe two or three years old,
3:03
so we went on a Frozen exhibit
3:06
and looked like you were walking in,
3:10
kinda like a Eskimos home,
3:12
- [Eddie]] I think it's back this year.
3:15
They have the same.
3:16
- I'd love for the grandchildren to go see that.
3:20
He had the most fun,
3:21
and I saw these polar bears
3:24
and I said that's what I'm gonna get him for Christmas.
3:29
And that would have been, what, 15 or 16 years ago now.
3:33
He's 18.
3:36
And there was three of 'em.
3:38
And he's got his bow tie on,
3:40
but the others don't have their bow tie on yet,
3:42
but come over here and look at 'em.
3:45
That's Papa Bear.
3:48
- [Eddie] Paper Bear, Mama Bear.
3:49
- [Paula] Mama Bear,
3:50
and Baby Bear.
4:01
And we haven't finished the mount yet,
4:04
but it's going along good,
4:07
I'm just waiting for my orders from headquarters
4:12
as to what I need to do next.
4:14
Now, the red bows on the bears,
4:17
do you we ought to do red
4:18
or do you think we ought to do green over here?
4:21
- I think.
4:22
- Carry on with the.
4:23
- [Eddie] I think red.
4:24
I like the idea of red.
4:26
So, red. - You think so?
4:27
- [Eddie] Yeah. - Okay.
4:28
Well, I'm good with either,
4:30
either of those colors.
4:31
The red ribbon is gorgeous on that white fur.
4:34
- [Eddie] Yeah.
4:35
It's a good pop.
4:36
- Yes, and these are in such wonderful shape,
4:41
after all the years.
4:43
- [Eddie] Yeah, I mean, we've had 'em in storage forever.
4:45
- Yes, they've been in storage.
4:47
Look at that precious little thing.
4:50
- [Theresa] There's a lot more to come, isn't there?
4:52
- [Paula] Yes.
4:53
- [Theresa] This is just take one.
4:55
- So, there's five, maybe six grandchildren,
5:00
that have never seen these polar bears.
5:01
- Yeah.
5:02
I can't wait to see.
5:03
- That's gonna be fun
5:06
to see what they think about these,
5:09
the three bears.
5:13
So, this is step one y'all.
5:16
Step two will be coming.
5:18
So Eddie,
5:20
I think I'm gonna go out and harvest some real stuff,
5:22
like the magnolia leaves and some cedar.
5:25
And Father John's gonna be in here in a few minutes,
5:28
so I'm gonna do this very quickly,
5:30
and I'll be right back.
5:31
I promise it'll be full when I come back.
5:34
- [Eddie] All righty.
5:37
- Hey, Father John.
5:38
- Paula, so good to see you.
5:40
- So good to see you too.
5:41
- Early Christmas greetings.
5:43
- Y'all, this is Father John Lions,
5:45
and he is a very very special person in our life.
5:51
And he's especially,
5:53
especially important my Aunt Peggy.
5:57
- Aunt Peggy, lovely lady.
5:59
Always happy to visit.
6:00
- Y'all have known Aunt Peggy all through the years.
6:03
We were watching some of my old shows yesterday,
6:07
and she was, I mean, just as sassy.
6:12
- She hasn't changed to much.
6:13
- No.
6:13
People came to love my Aunt Peggy over the years,
6:17
and as y'all know,
6:20
she had a fall and broke four ribs,
6:23
and she's having a hard time coming back at 95.
6:27
You can only imagine.
6:29
So, I went up this morning,
6:32
and I said, Aunt Peggy,
6:33
Father John's gonna be here about 1:30 now,
6:36
she popped outta that bed
6:38
and she came down the landing and she said,
6:42
"Now, what time did you say?
6:44
"What time did you say?"
6:45
- I'm pretty close.
6:46
- But you have meant so much to her, Father John.
6:49
- Well, she's a joy to visit, she really is.
6:51
- Well, thank you, thank you so much.
6:53
- She's a wonderful lady.
6:53
We have great conversations.
6:55
At 95 years, you've seen a lot and experienced a lot.
6:58
- Seen a lot.
6:59
- A lot of laughs,
7:00
especially hanging around with this woman.
7:02
- Yes.
7:04
I feel like everyday we need to find one thing to laugh at.
7:10
- Good medicine.
7:11
- I think God loves hearing us laugh.
7:14
I think he loves seeing us joyous.
7:15
- Amen, yep.
7:19
- So, we'll think of something to laugh about
7:21
before this day is over.
7:23
We both woke up on the right side of the dirt.
7:26
- Thank heavens.
7:27
That's right.
7:28
- That's something to smile about, ain't it?
7:30
- Better be seen than viewed.
7:32
- Yes, I know, that's one of my favorite sayings.
7:34
(both laugh)
7:35
I don't wanna be viewed.
7:37
(both laugh)
7:38
- Not today.
7:39
- Not today.
7:40
I'd have to have my flappers on
7:42
before I could be viewed.
7:44
(both laugh)
7:46
So, are you ready to go up and see?
7:49
- Visit, yes indeed.
7:50
- I know she's waiting.
7:51
She's waiting on ya.
7:52
- I always enjoy my visits.
7:54
- But I appreciate you
7:55
allowing me to introduce you to the world,
7:58
because you're a very very special person in our life.
8:02
And Father John was there every moment
8:06
of our triplets fighting for their lives.
8:10
- And now they're in Kindergarten.
8:13
And they were in critical care for four months.
8:17
- Yeah, you could hold 'em palm of your hands.
8:19
Two pounds.
8:20
- And you,
8:23
I don't think you would call it in the Catholic religion,
8:28
you didn't baptize 'em, but you.
8:30
- No, we baptized them in the NICU.
8:32
- Right.
8:33
- They were critical.
8:34
- They were critical.
8:35
- So, normally, we would wait, but.
8:37
- In the first 24 hours, I think you did that.
8:39
- Yes, just because of the seriousness of it,
8:42
we did baptize 'em, yeah.
8:44
- Well, so like I said,
8:45
he's very special,
8:46
and he's retired now from the pulpit, aren't you?
8:49
- For the most part.
8:50
Still fill in.
8:51
- But you do a lot of filling in.
8:52
- Still have baptisms, weddings,
8:55
and visiting special people.
8:56
- So glad y'all got to meet this very special man.
8:59
- Well, thank you Paula.
9:00
- And he even came to Albany
9:02
and presided over my brother Bubba's funeral.
9:07
- Got to visit with Bubba awhile before he died.
9:09
- So, come on up, let's go see.
9:11
- Okay.
9:12
- 'Cause I always like to see the smile on her face
9:14
when she sees you.
9:16
- So, don't let me touch ya, Eddie.
9:20
So, as y'all know, we were working on the mantle,
9:25
but now it's time to bring these
9:27
beautiful buyers dolls that I love so much.
9:31
And I adore fresh greenery,
9:36
I love the way it smells,
9:38
so when we go to the Christmas tree store,
9:42
I'll ask for scraps.
9:45
Oh, they've trimmed off the bottoms,
9:48
'cause I just want that smell in our house
9:50
to really smell like Christmas.
9:52
So, and we do use a lot of artificial,
9:56
you have to,
9:57
because there's,
9:58
this is a great background for the real stuff.
10:03
And if you put it out early
10:04
and you have to change it out before Christmas,
10:08
it makes it really a lot easier,
10:11
because all you have to do is snatch out the reel.
10:14
- Yeah, and the cypress is kinda dry,
10:16
it's real nice anyways,
10:18
so it'll last through Christmas.
10:20
- Yes, yes.
10:21
And I love it with the berries, Eddie.
10:24
I love the berries.
10:25
Can we stop a second though
10:27
and go show 'em something else real quick?
10:31
These, Theresa was reminding me awhile ago,
10:36
that for those of y'all that are not familiar
10:41
with buyers Christmas dolls,
10:44
they have a theme.
10:47
And Eddie can tell you about themes,
10:48
look at that little bowlegged man right there
10:50
with that wig on.
10:52
I love him, Eddie.
10:55
And the caroler.
10:57
And look at the goose,
10:58
he's done caught him a goose for Christmas dinner.
11:04
I wouldn't have that goose for dinner,
11:05
I'd have him in my yard (laughs)
11:08
where I could look at him.
11:10
Look how beautiful those berries,
11:12
it just brings that alive, y'all.
11:15
- [Eddie] Yeah, it covers wires too.
11:16
- Yeah, it covers wires, that's right.
11:18
Covers some sins.
11:20
But before we get too far along,
11:25
oh and I want to tell y'all
11:29
that it takes days and days and days for us to decorate.
11:37
It probably takes two weeks, wouldn't you think, Eddie?
11:41
- Yeah, just a little at a time.
11:42
- Yeah, doing a little bit at a time.
11:44
- Between filming.
11:45
- Right.
11:46
Right.
11:47
- Travel.
11:48
- Yes.
11:50
And so, we are gonna show you bits and pieces,
11:56
but on December the 22nd,
12:00
we are gonna go live, Eddie and me,
12:03
and Theresa will be holding that camera.
12:05
Then we're gonna show you everything
12:07
from start to finish that we've done.
12:10
That Eddie's done. (laughs)
12:14
Eddie, when he starts decorating,
12:19
he likes to,
12:21
he likes to have total control over it,
12:24
and stay away from his decorations.
12:26
So, I try to respect that.
12:28
But come on, I want to show y'all these,
12:31
talking about themes, the buyers dolls having themes.
12:35
And if you can buy vintage,
12:39
I've got some, what's the oldest ones you think I got?
12:43
- I think we've got some that go back to just the-
12:46
- 60's, wasn't it, 68?
12:47
- Oh, there's one and you can tell,
12:51
you can tell by the bases.
12:54
The older ones, the bases are like clay I think,
13:00
and you can see it's all rough looking.
13:02
Yeah. - [Paula] Yeah.
13:03
- These are nice and smooth.
13:04
- And they're all dated,
13:06
which I love, I love my,
13:10
I don't collect a whole bunch of things,
13:13
but things I do collect,
13:15
I like them to have a date on it.
13:17
So, Eddie and I were fortunate enough,
13:21
I saw this before Bubba saw it,
13:23
otherwise it would've been in Bubba's house.
13:26
Come on in here, y'all.
13:31
Look at this.
13:32
It's the whole set of the Salvation Army buyers dolls.
13:41
Aren't they beautiful?
13:42
- I love this platform.
13:44
Kinda looks like a ice skating rink a little bit.
13:47
- I know it does.
13:49
A friend of mine handmade this
13:52
out of spools of thread from years ago.
13:59
It's acting as a riser right now.
14:00
- [Eddie] Yeah.
14:02
- [Paula] But it does,
14:03
it looks like it's cold and they're out ringing that bell,
14:09
saying please give, please help, please help.
14:14
And I do 100% Salvation Army.
14:21
They're good people.
14:23
And look at the little vail.
14:25
And if you want to contribute money, Theresa, next week,
14:27
and put it, okay.
14:29
(Eddie and Theresa laugh)
14:34
- [Theresa] So Paula, you do one part of your house,
14:37
or one part of the decorating yourself after Eddie
14:40
does the lights,
14:43
where are we on that?
14:44
- Ooh, honey.
14:46
Now I'm gonna be doing this to Eddie.
14:48
My Christmas tree and my ornaments.
14:51
- Decorating the Christmas tree is the,
14:54
probably the one thing I do not really like doing.
14:57
- That works out real well for me. (laughs)
15:01
Oh, I won't have to fight ya for that.
15:03
- [Theresa] So, you'll get to see the results.
15:05
- I'm gonna sit down on the sofa and watch ya decorate.
15:07
- Okay, yeah, just don't leave me, okay?
15:09
'Cause I can't reach the real high place
15:12
and you don't wanna see me climb on top of a ladder.
15:15
- No, I've offered,
15:16
the tree looks absolutely beautiful the way it is.
15:19
- It does.
15:20
- [Theresa] Can we show him one more time
15:22
how it looks now, and then.
15:23
- Yeah.
15:24
- Yeah, we haven't done anything from the beginning.
15:26
- [Theresa] Well I know,
15:27
but we're just gonna go back
15:28
and remind them what it looked like.
15:31
So, on December 22nd, when we do the live,
15:35
they'll see Paula's handiwork.
15:38
- [Eddie] She actually has one more tree to do.
15:40
Her little tree that she does with her grandchildren.
15:44
Ornaments that they've made or.
15:46
- Yeah.
15:47
Yeah.
15:48
- [Theresa] Well, you have a lot to show him.
15:50
- Yes.
15:51
They gonna have to get 'em a cup of coffee
15:53
and sit down on December the 22nd,
15:56
'cause it may be a minute long.
15:59
Might get a little bit long.
16:02
But everywhere I go,
16:04
all my book signings y'all always tell me,
16:07
we love it when you do a tour of the house,
16:10
and show us what you're actually doing outside the kitchen.
16:13
So, this is for y'all.
16:20
Hey, y'all, it's Paula Deen.
