- Hey, y'all.
0:01
Break out your blue suede shoes and come with me,
0:03
because today we're gonna be saying,
0:05
thank you very much to the King.
0:08
That's right, today's show is all about Elvis.
0:13
So we're gonna be taking care of business in my kitchen
0:16
with a whole meal of Elvis inspired dishes
0:19
that I think you're gonna love.
0:21
First up, I'm gonna combine two of Elvis's favorite dishes
0:26
with my cheeseburger meatloaf.
0:27
It's a knock your socks off.
0:30
And on the side,
0:32
I'm gonna be making some crunchy new potatoes.
0:34
And for my encore,
0:36
I'm fixing a peanut butter and banana gooey butter cake,
0:41
and it's truly over the top.
0:44
So y'all come with me today, and don't be cruel,
0:47
'cause Elvis hadn't left the building just yet.
0:52
Well, how do y'all like my souvenir from Graceland?
0:56
Isn't it slimming. (laughs)
0:58
Makes me look like Elvis, doesn't it? (laughs)
1:02
Speaking of Elvis, today's show is all about Elvis.
1:04
And I tell you what,
1:06
you're not gonna find a bigger fan than I was of Elvis.
1:10
And so today, I'm cooking things
1:12
that I think Elvis would have really liked,
1:15
but the real kicker comes in from the dessert today.
1:19
There's a group of correction officers down in Alabama,
1:22
and they faithfully watch my show every Saturday.
1:25
Well, they sent me an idea,
1:27
and they call it the Elvis Presley Gooey Butter Cake.
1:31
So we're gonna be doing that later on in the show,
1:34
but for right now, I think Elvis would love a meatloaf,
1:38
'cause he liked his hamburger meat.
1:39
So we're gonna start with a meatloaf that we serve
1:42
at The Lady and Sons.
1:45
It's called cheeseburger meatloaf.
1:49
It's real simple to make,
1:53
and it's tasty.
1:54
So I'm gonna put my
1:58
ground beef in there.
2:00
And I'd started chopping my onions and my green pepper.
2:06
(chopper taps)
2:07
And I'll just finish these up.
2:10
I've got several meatloaf recipes that we use
2:13
at the restaurant, and I have to say,
2:15
this is probably one of the favorites.
2:21
All right, now I'm adding some of our house seasoning
2:25
and some seasoning salt,
2:27
and we're just gonna mix this up.
2:29
And y'all will notice that I'm putting some ingredients
2:32
that you don't find in a standard meatloaf
2:34
and that's sour cream.
2:36
I'm gonna put a half a cup of sour cream
2:39
and some Worcestershire,
2:42
and a cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
2:46
This looks pretty good.
2:48
All right, now I'm gonna have to wash my hands.
2:51
So, for the breading part of this meatloaf,
2:55
I'm gonna use crackers,
2:57
but I just love the taste of these crackers,
3:01
and I'm gonna need a cup of cracker crumbs.
3:05
Okay, see how easy that was?
3:08
I remember the one and only time I ever saw Elvis.
3:13
Oh my goodness.
3:15
It was in 1973,
3:19
and I didn't have any money for an outfit.
3:24
So I went to the fabric store and I bought me some fabric,
3:29
because it was very important that I looked good,
3:31
because he might look out there and see me.
3:34
So I wanted to look really, really good.
3:37
So I made me some hot pants, real short hot pants
3:42
and a shirt that cut down.
3:45
And I went to the shoe store
3:48
and bought me a pair of white plastic knee high boots.
3:53
Now I was one hot mama. (laughs)
3:58
I don't want have to tell y'all he didn't see me. (laughs)
4:03
I'll never forget that.
4:05
But for right now,
4:06
I'm gonna get this meatloaf in this pan.
4:08
And I want to show y'all a trick.
4:10
It may be one that I've shared with you before,
4:12
but I wanna share it with you again.
4:15
Ground beef is greasy,
4:17
and I don't particularly like a greasy meatloaf.
4:21
So I'm gonna stick two pieces of bread
4:24
in the bottom of my dish,
4:26
because that bread is gonna
4:30
act almost like a sponge.
4:33
And it's gonna soak up all that grease.
4:37
And then you try to resist eating
4:39
that greasy bread. (laughs)
4:42
All right, so we're gonna stick this in a 350 degree oven
4:45
for about 50 minutes.
4:52
All right, if I was a betting woman,
4:54
I would bet that Elvis and I shared a love for potatoes.
4:59
So I'm gonna make some crunchy new potatoes.
5:02
And I found these wonderful little small reds,
5:05
and I'm just gonna throw them in a pot of cold water.
5:09
And because of their size, they're not gonna take very long.
5:12
And you always wanna start your potatoes in cold water,
5:16
because they'll cook more evenly.
5:18
And while they're cooking,
5:20
I'm gonna be mixing up corn flakes.
5:25
Now this is no sugar corn flakes.
5:27
These are regular.
5:28
And I formulated this recipe
5:30
when I was writing my second cookbook.
5:32
And I really, really like these.
5:35
Now I'm gonna mix in with these cornflakes
5:38
some ranch dressing,
5:40
because I wanted my potatoes
5:42
to really have a little bite to them.
5:45
I just love ranch dressing.
5:48
Okay, so when we come back, the potatoes should be done.
5:50
And I'm gonna show you how to turn these soft little,
5:54
sweet, new potatoes into crunchy potatoes.
5:57
And I'm also gonna share with y'all
5:59
some home movies from Graceland that I wanna show y'all.
6:02
So, y'all, don't go anywhere.
6:04
I'll be right here waiting on you.
6:09
I so hope y'all are enjoying the show.
6:11
And if you do.
6:13
Be sure to click like, subscribe and
6:16
notification bell so you'll never miss a video.
6:20
And we'll be right back after the break.
6:27
Before we get started with the potatoes,
6:28
I wanna show y'all something.
6:30
You know, I told you
6:31
that I finally got to see Elvis in 1973.
6:34
And these are the programs from that show.
6:37
It's really strange that his lips are missing. (laughs)
6:42
That very well could have been from me kissing him. (laughs)
6:46
He was just the best.
6:48
All right, our potatoes are done.
6:50
And now we're gonna peel them.
6:51
And you'll find that these peel real, real easy
6:55
with a pairing knife just like that.
6:58
All right, now we're gonna toss these around in the butter.
7:02
Oh, I could just eat them just like this, but we're not.
7:06
We're gonna roll them around in these crumbs.
7:09
I'm gonna cook these potatoes
7:11
in little individual bean pots.
7:15
So everybody will have their own little pot of potatoes.
7:18
All right, now our meatloaf is probably almost done.
7:20
And I have, in honor of Elvis,
7:23
he was very funny about his hamburger,
7:25
he wanted it cooked well done.
7:28
So, because that's the way Elvis liked them,
7:31
that's the way Paula's cooking them.
7:33
All right, we're gonna put these in the oven,
7:35
and I'm gonna take our meatloaf out.
7:37
And we're gonna turn the oven up to 400 degrees,
7:40
because our potatoes need to cook a little hotter
7:42
than the meatloaf.
7:44
So let's see what we've got.
7:50
Yeah, it's nice and done.
7:53
See it shrunk a little bit.
7:54
And I'm gonna cut this up to 400.
7:58
I'm gonna stick our cute little pot of potatoes
8:01
in the oven, and we're just gonna roast those off.
8:06
We've got the meatloaf out.
8:07
We've got the potatoes in.
8:09
Now I wanna show you all this quick and easy sauce.
8:12
Now we're gonna just take a can of cream of mushroom soup,
8:16
any brand, your favorite brand.
8:21
This is so quick and easy, you're not gonna believe it.
8:25
I'm gonna put our cream of mushroom soup in our pot.
8:30
We serve this at the restaurant about once a week,
8:35
and the men just love it.
8:37
All right, we're gonna add a cup of milk.
8:40
I'm gonna add it slowly at first
8:42
to just mix that soup and that milk together,
8:45
so it won't go clumpy on me.
8:48
And now we're gonna add a cup and a half
8:50
of cheddar cheese to it.
8:53
And then we're just gonna bring that to a boil,
8:56
and we'll have that to pour on top of our meatloaf.
8:59
And it's delicious with biscuits.
9:02
But you know what?
9:03
I've got some onions here.
9:10
I think I'll do just a few onion tops
9:13
and throw over in there,
9:14
and that'll make it a little bit more interesting.
9:20
Give it a little color,
9:22
and the flavor won't hurt it either.
9:24
So, there we go.
9:26
So while our sauce is getting hot,
9:30
our meatloaf is resting for a little while,
9:32
because it'll slice easier if we let it rest.
9:36
But this, I just wanna show y'all this.
9:39
This was like a little piece of heaven.
9:43
This was Magnolia Lodge down in Crystal River, Florida,
9:46
and my grandmother and granddaddy owned this.
9:50
We had wonderful times here.
9:52
This is where all the wealthy hunter
9:54
and fishermen would come,
9:56
and grandma would cook their catch or their game.
10:02
Whatever it was, she would cook that for their dinner.
10:04
And it was here that Elvis spent one week vacationing,
10:09
and he sent a postcard saying how much he appreciated
10:14
and enjoyed everything.
10:15
And that was a wonderful place,
10:17
a wonderful part of my childhood.
10:21
All right, now our sauce is bubbly,
10:23
and now I've got to find
10:25
a plate to put our meatloaf on.
10:30
And this has cooled off enough
10:32
that I think I'm gonna be able
10:33
to just lift it pretty easily.
10:37
All right, this is the only spatular I can find.
10:40
So I'm gonna see if I can't make it work. (laughs)
10:46
Look a there, perfect.
10:48
All right, now see all of our bread that's full of grease
10:51
just peeled right off of our meatloaf.
10:55
So we're gonna slip that over in there.
11:00
So we're just gonna put that cheesy sauce
11:04
on top of that meatloaf.
11:06
I just think I could have made Elvis so happy.
11:11
(Paula groans)
11:13
All right, now, let's see.
11:14
I don't think this needs much.
11:15
Love spring onions.
11:17
I've got some sliced tomatoes,
11:19
and I'm fixing to take our potatoes out of the oven.
11:24
That looks scrumptious.
11:25
All right, let's see if they're ready.
11:28
All right.
11:32
Potatoes are done.
11:35
Look at that.
11:36
Is that not fit for a king?
11:38
I know it.
11:39
If only Elvis could have seen me in those hot pants,
11:44
we could have been so happy together. (laughs)
11:53
Let's see what it tastes like.
11:56
Looks delicious.
12:02
Mmm mmm mmm.
12:04
When we come back,
12:05
I've got that special Elvis Presley dessert
12:08
I was telling you about.
12:09
So y'all, don't go anywhere.
12:14
I hope y'all are enjoying the show
12:16
and I want to hear from you.
12:18
Tell me what recipes or videos you'd like to see me
12:21
make by just leaving a short comment below.
12:25
Now, let's get back to the show, y'all.
12:31
So this next recipe comes from a group of friends
12:34
from Lexington, Kentucky,
12:37
and they watch the show every Saturday,
12:39
and they write and tell me how much they love it.
12:41
And they came up with the Elvis Nanner Peanut Butter
12:46
Gooey Butter Cake, and the recipe is over the top.
12:51
So I can't wait to share it with everybody.
12:53
I'm gonna start with a yellow cake mix, one egg,
13:01
and one stick of melted butter.
13:05
Now you can do this with a mixer, or you can do it by hand.
13:10
This is gonna be the base to our gooey butter cake.
13:12
So it's gonna be really, really stiff.
13:15
So we've almost got our crust done up.
13:20
All right, now we're gonna take our crust,
13:23
and we're gonna just pile it all
13:26
into a 13 by nine by two pan.
13:32
So we're just gonna press that out.
13:34
I started making this years ago.
13:37
It was the first dessert that I made and sent out
13:41
on the bag lady routes with the boys.
13:43
My kitchen and I have done
13:45
just about every variation there is,
13:48
but, guys and girls from Kentucky,
13:51
we've never made a Peanut Butter Banana Gooey Butter Cake.
13:56
All right, with a filling, I'm gonna put in
13:59
an eight ounce block of softened cream cheese,
14:02
and I'm gonna put a half a cup of peanut butter,
14:08
and I'm just gonna blend those up together.
14:12
(mixer whirls)
14:14
Oh, those two things are looking delicious.
14:18
All right, so we just gonna cream that together
14:20
like that a little bit,
14:21
then I'm gonna add my powdered sugar,
14:23
and just beat that in there.
14:25
And this is a one pound box of powdered sugar.
14:29
We're gonna put that whole box in there.
14:32
All right, I'm almost done,
14:33
but I think I'm gonna go ahead and add two eggs to it now
14:37
to just make it a little bit more liquidy,
14:40
so it'll mix up quicker.
14:42
And when I'm making a gooey butter cake
14:44
that's got a really gooey center,
14:48
like pineapple gooey butter cakes,
14:50
rather than put in two eggs,
14:52
I'll put in three,
14:53
'cause that extra egg helps it thicken up a little bit,
14:56
and that way it's not so runny.
14:59
All right, so I think we can finish
15:01
putting our powdered sugar in.
15:05
I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna cut that on low,
15:08
so that my butter won't splash all up in my face.
15:12
I'm gonna add some vanilla.
15:15
A banana flavoring would be good too,
15:17
but I think our banana is gonna flavor it enough.
15:21
All right, now we're gonna take one banana.
15:25
And I like to get my bananas going by mashing them
15:29
in their skin some.
15:30
So you see what I've done?
15:31
I've just mashed it a little bit in its skin
15:34
and giving it a little headstart,
15:37
and we just don't throw it in there
15:39
and let the mixer or do the rest of the work,
15:41
makes banana mashing real, real easy.
15:44
I think this is ready.
15:46
Still got a few chunks of bananas in it,
15:48
but I think that's gonna make it really, really good.
15:54
All right.
15:59
So we're just gonna pour that in, just spread that out,
16:03
gonna cover that crust, and we're gonna let it bake
16:08
for, gosh, about 45 or 50 minutes.
16:11
The one thing about gooey butter cake is you need to get
16:15
that time down just perfectly,
16:17
because the name of this is gooey.
16:19
You want to be able to, when you shake your pan,
16:22
that it still moves just a little bit with you.
16:25
So be careful that you don't overcook it.
16:29
So we're gonna put this in the oven,
16:32
and we're gonna bake this on 325.
16:39
And I've got a pan over here that should be ready.
16:43
It looks out of this world.
16:48
Oh my goodness.
16:50
Look how good.
16:54
And I think I'm gonna start by slicing this
16:57
right down the center.
16:59
And then all I have to do is come to either side
17:03
and go right down the center again.
17:07
I was reading somewhere the other day
17:09
a few things that Graceland was required to have own hand
17:14
in the kitchen was a case of orange drink,
17:19
fresh made homemade banana pudding,
17:23
hot rolls, biscuits,
17:25
and the ingredients to put together a meatloaf,
17:30
just what we made a few minutes ago.
17:34
So I think we're on target maybe with some of his likes.
17:40
And I got some fresh whipped cream,
17:41
and I got a little mint just to make it pretty.
17:44
We've kind of combined two of his favorite ingredients
17:48
into this dessert,
17:50
or I say we have, the guys and girls from Kentucky have.
17:56
In fact, Michael's favorite gooey butter cake
17:59
is the banana gooey butter cake.
18:02
And he hadn't tasted this double whammy.
18:06
So I bet he's gonna love it too.
18:09
Look at that.
18:12
I'm swallowing hard.
18:14
So what you say, let's taste it?
18:20
(Paula laughs)
18:22
This is out of this world.
18:25
Y'all, don't go anywhere,
18:26
'cause next I've got a real surprise for you.
18:29
I've got a variation of another one
18:32
of Elvis's favorite foods.
18:34
You're gonna love it, a sweet bacon mini BLT sandwich.
18:40
So don't go anywhere.
18:43
Mmm mmm!
18:47
I so hope y'all are enjoying the show.
18:50
And if you do.
18:52
Be sure to click like, subscribe and
18:55
notification bell so you'll never miss a video.
18:59
And we'll be right back after the break.
19:05
If there was anybody that ever made the most
19:09
of Southern cooking, it was probably Elvis Presley.
19:13
He loved this butter.
19:14
He loved his bacon.
19:15
So in memory of Elvis today,
19:18
I'm gonna show y'all how to put together a bacon,
19:22
lettuce, and tomato biscuit.
19:24
Now what's gonna make this special
19:26
is I have baked our bacon in the oven with brown sugar.
19:31
We're just gonna bust open our biscuit,
19:33
put a little mayonnaise on it,
19:36
and some lettuce, tomato,
19:39
and some of that sticky brown sugar bacon.
19:44
(steady bluegrass music)
19:49
Mmm.
19:51
What a great way
19:54
to enjoy a little mini BLT
19:58
You won't believe that sweet bacon in there.
20:00
He would have loved it.
20:02
You know, it's not every day that an Elvis Presley is born.
20:05
And whether you're a fan or not,
20:07
I think that you'll agree that his choice of food
20:11
was pretty good.
20:12
He really liked his Southern food.
20:14
And I think that y'all will love this cheeseburger meatloaf
20:17
with the cheese sauce
20:18
and the ranch flavored crunchy potatoes.
20:22
And thanks, Kentucky, for an over the top
20:25
Peanut Butter Banana Gooey Butter Cake.
20:28
Hope y'all try them and enjoy them all.
20:30
And 'til next, America, I send y'all love and best dishes
20:35
from my kitchen to yours.
20:40
Hey, y'all, it's Paula Deen.
