Welcome back to Paula's Party
0:12
Today is all about tricks of the trade. There's a few things that I could not do without
0:19
This is one of them. I want to show you this spatula
0:24
And I'm going to try to come in on it. Can you read that date
0:30
1945. Y'all, this was my grandmother Paul's spatula. It's the one that she used in her restaurant
0:39
and later on, after she retired, she used it in her home
0:43
This spatula is two years older than I am. And every time I pull out this spatula
0:50
I hook up and connect again with my grandmother. I have a surprise out there for some one person
0:58
if y'all would check under your chairs, somebody has a spatula taped to the bottom of their chair
1:10
Come on up, honey. Now, what is your name? My name is Allison
1:16
Allison, what a beautiful name. I want you to come over here at this other stove
1:22
and I want you to make these along with me, because you're not gonna believe how easy and simple
1:28
Okay. These are to making high delicious, so you come on over here. I'm ready
1:32
All right, so I'm going to be over here doing my thing. You listen to what I'm doing, and you follow along, okay
1:38
Okay. You can come over here and borrow my sink, and you can give your hands a wash
1:44
I washed mine right before we started, so mine are clean. And I can think of using this spatula without thinking about my grandmama She loved a canned biscuit
2:01
I remember her saying how relieved she was when they came out with that product
2:07
Because there's so many things you can do with them without having to make biscuits from scratch
2:11
or pie crust, or things like that, Allison. And one of her favorite things was to make fried pies
2:20
with these biscuits. So all you have to do is take your flour
2:25
You got a little bench flour in a bowl over there. There you go
2:28
Onto your counter. And then we're just going to kind of give that biscuit
2:33
a little toss in the flour. Put your little flour on your rolling pin
2:40
Now we're going to roll this out, Allison, to probably about five inches
2:46
You don't want an oblong biscuit. You want a perfect circle. About like that
2:53
All right. So now we got to make the top. Okay. So we're going to do the very same thing, Allison
3:00
We're going to do another one, and we want it to be the same size because we're going to put it on top
3:06
of the other biscuit that we have. How old are you, Allison
3:10
I'm 26. Ooh. Well, do you have your eye on anybody? You got a suspect
3:19
I heard a rumor, Paula, that Bobby was single. So... Is he here
3:28
No, honey, he's not here. He's in Texas. He's off filming his show
3:32
Oh, great. All right, now you've got a canned apple pie filling, Allison, right there
3:39
So what we're gonna do is we're gonna take a scoop of that
3:43
And we just going to put that in the center of our biscuit All right now we going just stick our fingers in some water and we gonna just come around that edge just a little bit
3:58
and we're gonna dampen that biscuit just like that. All right, now we're gonna take our other one
4:06
and we're gonna do the same thing. Just run around it quickly, moisten it just a little bit
4:13
because we want these biscuits to stick together. So there we go
4:21
So now you just take a fork. Do you have a fork over there, sweetie? I do have a fork
4:26
Okay, take your fork, dip the tines into the flour, and then just come around and crimp the edges
4:34
making sure your pie is sealed together good. All right, look how pretty this is
4:43
All right, now I'm going to check my grease. I just put a little water in there to see how hot my grease was
4:57
So is your grease hot enough, you think? I think so. All right, well, let's just slip our pie in that grease
5:06
And we're going to kind of want to start moving it around pretty quickly because we don't
5:12
I don't want it to sit in one spot and burn, because these biscuits cook pretty quickly
5:18
All right, now I'm gonna take my biscuit, and I'm gonna flip him
5:26
Look at that. Like a big ol' fried biscuit with apples in the center
5:38
So, you wanna come back to Savannah? Yes ma Bobby Are you personally inviting me How could I say no Absolutely Allison you got some sugar and some cinnamon Yes
5:52
Mix those together, and we're just gonna sprinkle a pie with that
5:57
Oh, that smells so good. Oh, doesn't it smell wonderful? A little powdered sugar
6:06
Yum. Look how delicious that looks. that looks. All right. Allison, bring your, bring your pie over. Here, we'll find it. See if I've
6:18
got another pretty dish back here. For us to put yours on. Oh, there you go. You know, and we're
6:28
just going to do the powdered sugar thing. Beautiful. And, you know, I can't have a flour
6:34
if you don't have a flower. There we go. Look how beautiful
6:42
So I'm going to give you a dollop. Just a dollop? Oh, you're sliding around
6:49
You can have as much of that as you want. Thank you. And I'm going to give me a dollop
7:00
All right, let me find us a spoon. and let's taste. Okay
7:07
All right, dig in, and you know what else this would be wonderful with Allison? Wedding cake
7:15
I think it would be fabulous with vanilla ice cream. Mm. Mm
7:21
You like it, Allie? It's so good. It's delicious. Mm. Mm. Yum
7:28
Let's keep going. Mm. Now, you know you give this to a man and you can catch him
7:34
You don't catch him so fast, he won't know what hit him. I'm going to try it. Mmm
7:38
I'm going to try it
