It's another Father's Day, Jamie
0:02
Daddy's favorite day of the year. Yes. And in honor of Father's Day
0:07
we're making dishes that the whole family's gonna love. Whoa! And we're starting off with mini macaroni pies
0:15
perfect for every kid at heart. You can't have Father's Day without the kid
0:20
Then we've got Dad's favorite, pork chops with a double orange glaze
0:26
And we're gonna be serving them up with a sautéed spinach and onions
0:30
Ooh, happy Father's Day to me. And then we have some fun making crispy rice cupcakes
0:35
with our precious Jack. Y'all, it is Father's Day. Jamie is a daddy now
0:47
Jack is three years old, y'all. He's the most adorable little child
0:52
The most handsome, smartest child ever born in the history of the planet Earth. Well, today's recipe we're doing mini macaroni pies
0:59
It's a traditional macaroni and cheese recipe that we use from the restaurant. Jack loves macaroni and cheese, loves any kind of pasta
1:06
And Bobby and I have found a recipe that is easy to handle and easy to make
1:11
The kids can help make it. All right, so I am grating you up two cups of cheddar
1:16
Yes, ma'am. While we're waiting on our macaroni to cook, I'm going to put half a cup of milk in our mixing bowl here
1:21
And a quarter of a cup of sour cream. Two eggs. I'm going to add a little bit of salt
1:35
Okay. Get this all mixed in together really good. So looking good, son
1:40
They're cooking like rolling cooking. Okay, I'm going to take some of this cheese
1:45
We don't want all of this. This is where I'm going to put my pasta, so. Okay
1:50
Oh, I'm sorry. That's okay. Well, here, I'll measure out your cheese for you
1:55
A half a cup in there. Okie dokie. You say this pasta's done? Yes, son
1:59
I think it's done now. There's your half a cup of cheese. Okay, I'm going to drain this off
2:08
I've got about four cups of pasta. Yeah, and you want to stir it good because water will get trapped in the little elbows
2:18
so you want to make sure that you give it some stir so all that water can get out of those little
2:25
elbows i'll give it a good shake too because water is an enemy of macaroni and cheese
2:31
okay son i think that's good and you're going to want to stir the cheese into this so it melts
2:38
real good and my mom's doing that kind of an unusual thing but i'm going to add two tablespoons
2:43
of cold butter into my wet mixture here. And this is just so when it's cooking
2:50
it'll melt down in there. Children are born with the macaroni and cheese gene
2:58
What is it? I don't know. I think it's an easy dish for parents to make
3:04
They just all seem to love it. Because when children come to the Lady and Sons
3:09
I'll ask the children, what was your favorite? and they always, always say the macaroni and cheese
3:16
They don't ever say collard greens, do they? No, they never say collard greens. It's the macaroni and cheese
3:20
Or green beans. Jack loves green beans, too. Now I've got a cup and a half of butter crackers
3:27
Yum. I'm just going to crush these up. And while you do that
3:31
I'm going to add the wet ingredients to the macaroni and cheese. See what we're going to do, y'all
3:36
is we're going to put these inside of a bacon muffin tin. we're going to have a crust on our mini macaronis
3:42
Jamie, have you found, as a father, when it comes to getting the children to eat
3:47
you have to make it kind of fun for them and interesting, don't you? Yeah, I think the best way to get your kids to eat is to let them help you
3:54
Absolutely. Anything that he touches, he's excited to eat. Absolutely. He's in the kitchen a lot
3:59
It makes them proud. It builds self-esteem, y'all. It's just everybody wins
4:06
Into our crushed crackers, I'm going to put four tablespoons of some butter that we've melted
4:11
And it's kind of hardened up a little bit, but that's okay. Here you go, son
4:17
I'll take this and scoop all that out for your good. I'm going to add into this, y'all, I'm going to put a cup of cheese
4:26
Yes! Yes, yes. I'm going to mix this up really good. One of my favorite memories of Jack is go to school with Daddy Day
4:37
and he made me a little tie, and I never wear a tie, but I wore the one that Jack made me, and I just love that little tie
4:43
He made the tie for you to wear to work? I had a construction paper on a piece of string, so you put it on
4:47
Oh, my goodness. So you had to wear it to work that day? I wore it all day long
4:51
Did you really? Before Jack was born, my mom gave me the gown that I came home from the hospital in
4:59
I think Dad had found it. No, no, I had it in my hope chest
5:04
I had saved it all these years, and it was just the most beautiful little soft gown But I took it to the hospital and they brought Jack home in that same gown I going to use a little nonstick spray in here
5:20
And, you know, I remember... So the same thing I wore home from the hospital, 40 years later, Jack wore the same thing
5:27
You know, for some reason, I didn't save Bobby's outfit, and I wished I had a, Jamie, because let me tell you
5:34
it was a little short suit, and it had a tie on it. Now, can you imagine the baby
5:39
Coming home in a tie. Well, Bobby did. I hate that I didn't save it
5:45
We're putting these into the muffin tinge, y'all, and we're going to get them to come up the edges a little bit
5:49
This is going to be our crust, y'all. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. OK, Mom, you can just dish that right on top
6:05
Pebble with a little bit more of our cheese. I love it, though
6:09
How cute is this? Okay, now that I've got these done, I'm going to put them into the oven on 375 for about 25 minutes
6:18
Coming up next, dishes for our dads, orange-glazed pork chops and sautéed spinach with onions
6:26
Happy Father's Day to all you guys. And later, a special treat for the kids, crispy rice cupcakes
6:34
I like marshmallows. Yes. I know you like marshmallows, and we've got all the toppings
6:40
This is going to make them extra fun. You'd like some more sprinkling? What? Yes
6:49
You want to cook some pork chops? Yes, I want to cook some pork chops. We're making today, y'all, Jamie's double orange glazed pork chops
6:56
We love pork chops. I love them thick cut. I like them thin cut. I like them fried
7:00
I like them baked. I like them barbecued. I like them... I'm with you, son
7:04
I like them grilled. This is a really super simple recipe, and we've got some great citrus flavor going on top of this pork
7:11
So, Mom, if you'll get about three or four tablespoons of oil and about the same of butter, I'm going to salt and pepper these pork chops
7:16
Okay. So you've got fresh squeezed orange juice. One cup of orange juice and a third a cup of marmalade
7:25
Citrus and pork are so good together. Yes, they are. All right
7:34
I think it's hot enough, son. These are little thin pork chops that Jamie selected
7:42
so they're not going to take long to cook, y'all. Now, we're going to brown these off
7:46
They won't take but a few minutes. After we get through cooking, what is your Father's Day going to be like
7:56
In summertime, we're going to go swimming. He loves to go swimming and happy Father's Day
8:01
Because you are truly Jack's hero. He thinks his father hung the moon
8:06
Well, I don't all three-year-olds? No. All right, son. I'm going to save all the essence from these chops down here in the pan
8:14
And I'm going to take the orange juice and the marmalade. Okay. And I'm going to put this in pretty hot
8:20
This is going to be a really nice glaze, but I got to cook it down. It's going to be a hot, hot temperature
8:24
Okay, I'm going to let this reduce down. Mom, if you want to, let's get started with some butter, about three tablespoons
8:29
Okay. We're going to cook. We're going to do onions with wilted spinach today
8:33
And I'm going to cut a medium onion here, just kind of thinly sliced. All right, I think our butter is ready for our onions, son
8:44
So you can just throw those in. I love onion smell. I do, too
8:50
This is going to take, I kind of like them done, so probably four or five minutes
8:54
Maybe on the onions, we're going to get those kind of soft. So you kind of want them soft and transparent
8:57
And the spinach, you know, wilted spinach doesn't take but a minute, maybe
9:02
Okay. You know, one of my favorite things I told Brooke before Jack was born
9:08
I said, you know what's going to be so sweet is when Jack toddles up to me one day and says
9:14
Daddy, Mama said come give her some sugar. That's kind of a thing
9:18
I started with Brooke for my second Father's Day when Jack was a little over two years old
9:23
You know, he could put stuff together, and on Father's Day, he teetered up to me and said
9:28
Daddy, Mama said come give her some sugar. Isn't that sweet? He is so sweet
9:35
And he made me a little statue at school. Mama, this is a perfect Father's Day meal because it's hearty
9:40
We've got the pork, but it's easy enough where the mama and the kids can help make it, too
9:44
Yeah, the whole family can get in there on this one. And it's good for you, too, because we're not frying anything, and the spinach is good for you
9:51
Just a little bit of butter, y'all. Are these getting close enough for you? Yes, they're getting close enough for me, but you know what
9:58
Because our sauce is getting close, I'm going to put our pork chops back under here. Oh, you are
10:02
Mm-hmm. Son, this looks delicious. All right, so I'm going to put, son, just another little piece of butter in for our spinach
10:14
Four tablespoons, not three. All right, so I'm going to throw the spinach in, okay
10:21
Do it. Now, y'all, spinach ain't going to take just a few minutes. This is wilted Our pork chops are just about right Look how beautiful that glaze is on those chops Oh it just yummy looking Mm Now this spinach is gonna make this pot look real real full y
10:36
But it wilts down very quickly, and by the time we get through
10:40
you're gonna wonder if that's enough for Jamie and me. Mm-hmm. I'm gonna put just a little house seasoning in it
10:52
Mm-hmm. You know, it's so funny when Jack comes in, when they bring him over to see me
11:00
the first thing he says when he walks in the door is, Ginny, let's cook
11:05
And I thought, now, you know, when my kids were little, y'all, they didn't show any interest in the kitchen except when it was time to eat
11:13
And I thought, now, why? Why is it that this kid... A little bit of lemon juice, y'all
11:20
So anyway, I thought, now, why is Jack loving this kitchen? Blood is really, really thicker than water
11:31
But then it dawned on me one day why he loves it so much
11:35
It's because he sees you cook all the time. He does, and he watches this on TV
11:42
Here, just, isn't that easier? Easier. I remember when you and Bobby were little for like Father's Day and Christmas
11:52
You know, they had no money. They didn't have jobs. They would go to the garage or go to the utility house and take their daddy's tools and bring them in the house and wrap them up
12:05
Gosh, Mama, you know what? I forgot about that. I remember doing that. I remember y'all going out there and getting his hammers and his screwdrivers, bringing them back in the house and wrapping them up for him
12:15
and oh, he would just act like it was the greatest gift in the world
12:20
Son, this looks too, too good. Look, I pulled our macaroni out of the oven
12:24
and I think they're done perfect. Oh, my goodness. Look at this
12:29
I've got to bite into this little macaroni and cheese muffin. Let's taste
12:35
Mmm. Mmm. Ooh, Jamie. Is it good? I love citrusy pork chops
12:44
Mmm. Mmm. This is so good. Mmm. Yum. Good, John
12:56
Love the spinach. Ooh, happy Father's Day to me. Coming up next, marshmallow treats
13:02
that dad and kids can make together. Jack, look how awesome that is
13:07
And later, we have tons of fun decorating our cupcakes. Look, it's purple
13:15
Oh, my goodness. Look, y'all. You can't have Father's Day without the kid
13:26
I love you, precious. Let's see what Gann's cooking. All right. I like marshmallows
13:32
Yes. I know you like marshmallows. Well, Jack, guess what? Daddy and Kenny are going to make crispy rice cupcakes
13:41
So the first thing we're going to do is we're going to put in... Sprinkles
13:45
Six tablespoons of butter. All right, now we're going to put the marshmallows in
13:52
Let's dump them in. Okay? This is 10 1⁄2 ounces of mini marshmallows
13:58
Marshmallows are running everywhere. Two for you. They're escaping. All right, so Ginny is just going to stir these real good
14:06
until our marshmallows melt with our butter. Yum, right? And then put the sprinkles on
14:14
Yes, we've got to have sprinkles. We're going to put peanut butter too, bub
14:18
Yum. So what do you like to do, Jack, for Daddy on Father's Day
14:25
Hold it straight. You like to make stuff. Uh-huh. Now that we've got the marshmallows melted, let's go ahead and add a teaspoon of vanilla
14:34
And don't let your hand touch the pot. And now that third of a cup of peanut butter
14:41
There you go. There you go. That's one-third. Look at this, Jack
14:49
Does that look like delicious? You want to stir the peanut butter in
14:55
All right, Kenny's going to turn it off. There you go. Just stir, stir, stir
15:00
And look at that peanut butter goodness going through there. Now, Daddy's just adding the crispies
15:06
It's a 12-ounce box of a rice cereal, y'all. Crunch, crunch. Ooh, gosh
15:14
Would you let Daddy stir and let Kenny hold you, please? Because Daddy has got strong arms
15:24
Yum. That looks delicious, doesn't it? Look how sticky. Here, taste. Now that we've got all this put in and melted down, y'all, we're going to add our sprinkles
15:35
We going to put in 8 sprinkles or four ounces Let count them You want to Yes One Two Ten Three four
15:49
Dump the whole thing. Hold it from the bottom. Okay. Don't let your hands touch the..
15:55
Whoa! You love that. Sprinkles. Wouldn't that be fun to go to a sprinkle factory and see how they make sprinkles
16:06
Would you like that? Mm-hmm. I would too. Jack, look how awesome that is
16:12
Yes, sir. Oh, okay. Say, Guinea. You're falling down on the job, Guinea
16:22
Jack, now that we've got this melted, you know what we're going to do? What? We're going to make them into balls and put them on sticks
16:28
And then we're going to dip them into chocolate and put more sprinkles. Want to? It's time
16:35
I want to try. You want to try one? All right, make it into a ball, precious
16:41
I think more of a mess would be butter in your hands. May I have a stick, please, Daddy
16:47
I think we've got to get these sticks in here before they get too cool
16:53
Yum. The peanut butter is just all goodness smelling. Here you go, baby
17:01
Okay. Making it to a shape, bud. Ooh. Any shape you want
17:07
This is warm. or a square? What kind of I need a circle
17:11
I love it. I love it, love it, love it. Jack, look
17:16
What letter is this? J for me. J for you. Yes. Jack, we're going
17:21
to do a couple more of these and then guess what? What? More sprinkles. Would you like
17:26
some more sprinkles? What? Yes. Was that your stomach growling? Mm-hmm. Are you hungry
17:32
Mm-hmm. Oh, my gosh. I can't stand the thoughts of my baby
17:36
being hungry. Only the best here at the Dean House, all. Yum
17:42
Y'all stick around. When we come back, more sprinkles. Here, baby. Coming up next, we're all having a ball, topping off our crispy rice cupcakes
17:55
You got sprinkles on the end of your nose. Hey, y'all, welcome back
18:05
Jack, you ready for more sprinkles? Y'all ready for more sprinkles? Let's move down to the end
18:10
I'm ready for more sprinkles. Come down here, buddy. Okay, let's go
18:16
Let's go. All right, get on your stool. I'm gonna try it
18:23
You wanna try it? So what we've got now, y'all, is our chocolate
18:27
Well, surprisingly enough, Jack's not a big chocolate fan, so he's gonna stay away from the chocolate and focus on more sprinkles
18:34
We got any kind of colored sprinkles that you want. These are sugar sprinkles. But be careful when you use these because the colors usually denote a flavor
18:41
So unless you like sour apples, stay away from the green crystals. And raspberry
18:45
And is that watermelon? Watermelon. I bet it's watermelon. Pass me a ball, Daddy, please
18:52
Here you go. So melt your chocolate. We got milk chocolate. We got white chocolate
18:55
You can do anything you want. You can make designs. You can make it fancy. Okay
19:00
Okay. I want you to. There you go. Just because he doesn't eat it doesn't mean he won't want to play in it. Okay
19:08
Where are my circle? Okay. I will do it. I want to do it. Mom
19:15
Mom, let me get in there. I'm going to do a fancy smancy. Oh, yay
19:20
Buddy, I'm going to do half and half. I love fancy smancy. All right
19:27
Is it good? Can I put three for mine? Mm-hmm. Mmm, Jack, that's beautiful
19:39
Oh, yeah. Eat it. Look at the camera and show everybody your face
19:49
You got sprinkles on the end of your nose. Ooh, look how pretty Daddy's is
19:58
Kenny's gonna do pink on one side. and then green on the other
20:04
Yum. You want to make an easy recipe even easier? Throw all this other stuff away
20:11
and just open up the sprinkles. Would you like a spoon, Jack
20:16
Okay. Jack, what are you doing, son? I'm enjoying my cooking, Daddy
20:26
It's purple You want Ginny to get a mirror so you can see
20:39
Okay, hold on I'll be back in two steps Did you have fun with Daddy and Ginny today
20:45
Can you say Happy Father's Day? Happy Father's Day Can I have a kiss
20:50
I love you And that's what Father's Day is all about Happy Father's Day y'all, have fun
20:55
and get messy. It makes it taste better
