Y'all have heard that the early bird gets the worm
0:04
And today, Bobby and I wake up bright and early to get cooking on some of our family favorites
0:09
We start off by preparing my stepdaughter Michelle's banana chocolate gorilla bread
0:14
Yum, yum, yum. And we're also making Bobby's honey whole wheat pancakes with a honey lime butter
0:22
Three more pancakes coming up. And then it's on to a crustless spinach cheese quiche
0:28
We're topping Bobby's healthy side today with our yogurt breakfast splits. And this fine breakfast wouldn't be complete without our caramel cinnamon lattes
0:39
Love it when I'm in the kitchen with him. Do you know what the first thing is that we're making
0:48
Michelle Groover's Gorilla Bread. Your stepsister loves this recipe. And y'all are probably all familiar with my gorilla bread
0:59
Well, this is another form of gorilla bread. And it is so good
1:04
So let me start telling y'all the difference. While Bobby's mixing up our cinnamon sugar mixture
1:10
Michelle likes to make hers with crescent rolls rather than biscuits. So we are going to get our crescent rolls opened
1:20
So what's going to be the difference between the crescent rolls and the business? Well, there really is a lot of difference in this recipe, son
1:27
This one has bananas and chocolate chips in it. So it's a pretty big difference
1:33
And like I said, we're starting... There we go. We're starting with crescent roll dough
1:42
And I've got our bananas up here. Now, I'm just going to separate these, son, and we're just going to ease these out, Bobby
1:50
Is this going to be a little flakier than what we normally do? Yes, it's going to be flaky
1:53
You'll want to make sure that you keep your crescent rolls refrigerated
1:57
because if they get too much to room temperature, y'all, they won't want to come apart
2:03
I'll have six triangles now when I get this open, y'all. It's two different recipes, but what is the same is the dry that we're going to start with
2:10
Yes. I started with three tablespoons of white granulated sugar. Yes. And one teaspoon of ground cinnamon
2:16
And I've mixed that together, and we are going to chop up a cup and a half of walnuts
2:22
And normally what we would use here is pecans. So the subtle differences here are that we're going to be using..
2:27
Crescent rolls. Crescent rolls. This is a famous roll for Southern girls
2:32
If we've got a can of crescent rolls in our refrigerator, honey, we can take you from breakfast to lunch to dinner to dessert
2:39
You know what's funny? Mom, I don't know if you remember this, but the very first time I saw you on television
2:44
remember when we went out to Las Vegas and we went into these folks' house out there in the suburbs in Las Vegas
2:49
you had to start out with whatever this lady had in her cabinets. She had the canned biscuits like that
2:53
She had canned biscuits. And you made apple turnovers out of those canned biscuits. And I remember how impressed everybody, including me, was with that, too
3:00
Grandma used to make fried pies out of biscuits, son. So it's just one of the little tricks that Granny Paul taught me
3:06
All right, now here's a new addition to the gorilla bread, y'all. I've got some sweetened condensed milk right here
3:13
Don't confuse that with evaporated milk. This is that rich and thick, sweetened condensed milk
3:23
Michelle tells me to brush each of these triangles with the sweetened condensed milk
3:32
You know, the regular gorilla bread, y'all, I put cream cheese in, And so this is kind of a little substitute from the cream cheese
3:43
We're going to have a couple of banana slices. All right. And I'm going to slice it, you know, fairly thin
3:49
So I'm taking two bananas, y'all, and I'm going to put me a couple of slices of banana in each triangle
4:00
Just like this. And I've got these walnuts. I just want to get them chopped up kind of fine, so I'm using a nice sharp knife
4:08
All right. And I think I've got them about where we want them to be. What do you think about that? Now, our Michelle loves chocolate
4:14
She especially loves dark chocolate. So, hence we've got chocolate in here
4:22
Look at those. I am going to put in one stick of butter into the pan
4:28
and then I'm going to add one cup of brown sugar. Now, I'm going to just turn those on and let that melt together
4:37
because we're going to pour this all over those crescent rolls. Right
4:42
We'll give this a nice spray because we don't want these to stick. All right. Now, son, I'm just going to take these and kind of roll them up, press them together
4:51
It's a little bundle of deliciousness. A little bundle of love. And you want to do some with nuts inside the pouches
4:58
Well, you know what? The very first layer of this is going to be the nuts on the bottom because when we turn it over, it's going to be the top
5:03
I have some nuts and some without. So we'll pouch these up, and we're going to..
5:07
All right, just pouch them up. Put six on the first layer Got to beat up my brown sugar and butter
5:21
I'm going to go ahead and dust these. Yes. With about half of the dry mix that we put together
5:26
Yes, because remember, y'all, crescent rolls are not sweet. This is going to make it just right
5:31
Yeah, so that's going to make it so sweet. And I'm going to leave the remaining half because we're going to do six more of them
5:36
All right, now I'm going to take our brown sugar and butter. and I'm going to pour about half of that over
5:43
That's really good. Now what we're going to do, son, is just take a few more nuts and then we're ready to start on the next hand of present roll
5:50
Going to do the very same thing again. Take our little dry mix there
6:13
And then we'll put the rest of our chopped walnuts on there. And then the second half of your butter and brown sugar mixture
6:21
All right, now here goes the rest of the brown sugar and butter, y'all
6:26
Sinful looking. It is sinful looking. All right, and this is going into the oven at 350 for about an hour
6:32
350 for one hour, y'all. All right, got it. And you want to eat this when it's warm, straight out of the oven
6:38
350 for an hour. Coming up next, y'all. Tell the people what they've won, Mama
6:42
Okay. A crustless spinach cheese quiche and this guiltless yogurt breakfast split
6:47
Then we get started on Bobby's Honey Whole Wheat Pancakes. You won't believe how good it is
6:52
And later, a caramel cinnamon latte. Well, welcome back, y'all
7:01
Early to rise. It's still kind of early. I'm excited about the two recipes that we're doing
7:07
Let me tell y'all what we're doing. Tell the people what they've won, Mama. Okay, they have won a crustless spinach cheese quiche
7:16
And I'm starting with two cups of grated sharp cheddar cheese. Yes
7:21
And then a half cup of Parmesan cheese, fresh Parmesan. Well, in this bowl, y'all, I'm going to start with a fourth of a cup of flour, one cup of cottage cheese
7:32
I'm going to add one cup of sour cream. I'm going to go ahead and put this cheese in
7:36
All my cheese has sort of blocked up into my grater. Son, we need two cups
7:42
Oh, we're coming with two cups. Believe me, there's a lot in there. Well, wait, wait, wait. It might be too much, son
7:47
Oh, my Lord. Quit breaking that one, son. Yes, Mama. No, that's two cups
7:55
Oh, Lord, have mercy. Oh, Lord, you might have to use some more sour cream
7:59
Whatever will we do, Mama? A half a cup of parm? Yes. All right, that looks perfect
8:04
About a half cup? Yes. Now squeeze the water out of our spinach
8:08
All right. And I'm going to add a little salt and pepper. Now, if you're making this for young children
8:17
You know, you can decide on how much pepper you want. I think this is something you'd want to do with the kids, right
8:23
Absolutely. The child should be in the kitchen because, look, I mean, they're not going to get burned
8:30
They're not going to cut themselves. We have no sharp knives. And they'll have a ball
8:36
Being a bachelor, I've got to tell you, I love this part of the recipe. You're using a 10-ounce box of frozen spinach here
8:42
I've got four eggs. I'm going to go ahead and put the spinach in, all right
8:48
Okay, yes, please, son. Dump it in. All right, son, here's your eggs
8:53
And we're just going to mix it all together. Well, it's super simple
8:58
It's super simple. And I'm going to get your dish. We're putting this in like an eight-by-eight square dish
9:07
Bobby, doesn't that look delicious? This? Yes, absolutely. Uh-huh. I'm excited. Yes
9:14
All right, are you ready? So, son, yes, put that in. Now, we're going to bake this in a 325-degree oven for about 45 minutes
9:26
All right, son, so in the oven that goes, yes. All right. I'll get your door for you
9:32
Thank you. Now, everybody loves a breakfast parfait. I love it because you've got four different kinds of fruit that I really like
9:40
You've got fresh strawberries, fresh bananas, raspberries, and blueberries. I love all these
9:45
So you can cut us a few more strawberries. Okay. And while you're doing that, I'm going to put together our parfaits
9:52
And I have a vanilla low-fat yogurt. Yep. I have granola. I've got raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, a little honey, and almonds
10:04
So I'm just going to layer this in, Bobby. And I'm going to put maybe about two tablespoons in the bottom of the glass
10:11
and you'll want to be careful, because you don't want it to slop all over your sides
10:16
I mean, you want it nice and clean. And this is so simple
10:22
I gonna put a layer of blueberries Mm A layer of raspberries Mm You know normally you think of something like this being heavy and fattening and this one is not It full of great fresh fruits and yogurt
10:35
Yet guilt-free. It's a trick. All right, now I'm going to layer a couple of strawberries
10:46
And then I'm going to sprinkle a layer of the granola. And what's that, almonds
10:51
a layer of almonds, and then in for the sweet goodness. And that's the honey
10:58
Look here, Bobby. I'm going to slice your banana while you're doing that, Mom. Okay, look. I'm going to take a banana and cut it in half
11:03
and then I'm going to do it half ways again. Look here, look here
11:09
Another layer of our yogurt. You know, I've always said, Bobby, you eat it first with your eyes
11:16
For the last 20 years, I've been hearing that. All right, let's see. We want another layer of fruit
11:22
I'm seeing the bananas getting edged out of the recipe. No, no, no. They're, they're, this is kind of like a banana split
11:29
All right, a few raspberries. One more. That looks great. Jack loves raspberries, Bobby
11:36
Jack loves all fruit. Jack would eat blueberries until a cow's come on. He puts them on his finger
11:41
And he. I think I remember doing that with olives when I was a kid. Uh-huh. Jack would just about rather eat fruit than cookies
11:46
Oh, Jack would rather have fruit than a cookie. Yeah. His parents are sabotaging you, aren't they
11:52
Yes, they are. Back with the granola. Another round of almonds. Look at this
12:02
And finally, your banana, Bobby. Okay, you were right. And a little more one drop of yogurt on top
12:10
Maybe a little bit more honey. A little bit of fresh mint on there
12:14
And we have a wonderful, good-for-you breakfast parfait. Love it. It looks great
12:20
You know, this will allow us to eat some of that gorilla bread. Is it good
12:26
Mm. I love the crunch that the granola gives it. Mm. Mm
12:32
Don't go anywhere, y'all. Please. Yum. Mm. Yum. Very good. Yum. Coming up next, we're topping Bobby's pancakes with his special honey lime butter
12:43
You know, I love that. And we finally sink our teeth into this delicious meal
12:48
And later, we're ending it on a sweet note with our gorilla bread and caramel cinnamon latte
12:55
Everything we did was pretty darn good. Well, the theme of the show today is breakfast
13:05
And this is a really, really nice whole wheat pancake. So let's get going
13:10
You're going to find some surprises in here. One of them is that we're using some whole wheat flour
13:13
And the other is that I'm going to make a really neat lime honey butter for the topping of the pancake
13:19
Okay. I'm going to zest one lime. I'm going to put just a little olive oil on this
13:23
I'll do the wet stuff and you do the dry stuff. Okay. I'm going to put in one and a half cups of all-purpose flour
13:32
Going to put in a half a cup of whole wheat flour. Okey-dokey
13:36
All right, I've got my lime zested. Okay. So I'm going to take..
13:41
And a little salt, a fourth of a teaspoon of cinnamon, half a teaspoon of baking soda
13:48
For this nice topping, I'm going to use half a stick of butter softened, and I'm going to put about a quarter cup of honey in here and stir this up
13:54
And this is going to be our topping for the pancakes. You want me to measure your buttermilk, son
13:58
Sure. I need two cups, please. You want to make sure that you get down eye level
14:06
If you remain standing straight up, it's going to be awesome. So make sure you're eye level with that
14:12
All right, son, there's your two cups of buttermilk. All right. And you want it in your bowl
14:16
Yep, put it right in the bowl. All right. There's your two cups of buttermilk. And we've got a couple of eggs
14:24
And more egg. Son, is this melted butter over here, is this meant to go in here
14:33
It is. I have a stick of melted butter. Okay. In that goes
14:37
So you want to go wet to dry, son? Yes, ma'am. I'm going to add one tablespoon of honey
14:43
Okay, to give it just a little sweetness, because we're not using any sugar
14:48
Right. Well, if you'll pour that into our dry mixture. Do you know when I love pancakes
14:56
At night for dinner? I love them at night for dinner. Perfect
15:02
Yes. And when you're making pancakes, you don't want to overbeat them
15:07
All right. All right, son, that just mixed up so nice and smooth. All right, you ready
15:12
I think we can get about three on here. I like using grandma's spatula because it's got such a thin edge on it
15:25
Yeah, they don't make them like that anymore. No, they don't. And look at these pancakes
15:30
Beautiful. What do you think about the idea of a little bit of whole wheat? You know, I love that
15:36
All right, these look pretty good, Bobby. Stack them up I going to stack those I remember when I was a kid and we did pancakes at the house I would put some butter in between every pancake I always do No I wonder where I got that from
15:51
So I'll go with that theme, and I'm going to put a little bit of this lime honey butter in between the first two
15:55
I hear you swallowing hard, Bobby D. I love pancakes. And I don't get them often enough
16:01
Three more pancakes coming up. Bobby, get the quiche out of the oven. Okay
16:09
son. All right. We had those wonderful healthy parfaits. Now we're fixing to fix all that right up
16:17
All right. A little flip. Look at those. They're doing better. Oh
16:25
son, that looks so delicious. Looks great. I love flapjacks. I do
16:31
too. Oh, wait. I'm late with the butter. You are generous with
16:37
that butter. I can't believe What is that? Can't believe I'm not having to say something
16:44
That was a first. I think that's the first time I've ever heard those words come out of your mouth
16:50
Look at that. Golly, I remember as a kid whenever we had pancakes, I used way too much butter, way too much cane syrup
16:56
I didn't learn moderation until I was an adult. All right, now, Bobby, go on down there, son
17:01
Cut us some wonderful quiche. Okay. And I'm going to let these be cooking
17:06
Okay. And we will add them to the stack. Will you bring the rest of that lemon butter down, please
17:12
I sure will. Just flip these so they won't burn. And I'll bring your butter, and I'm going to go ahead and cut that skillet off
17:20
Right. Because these need some more. So those can stay hot. Love it
17:28
I do, too. I got to try the cheese first. Good morning, world
17:36
Oh, I have to try that. Mmm. This is fantastic. What do you like
17:43
The lime butter is unbelievable. Almost pancakes. Really gives it a nice flavor
17:50
Bobby, you do good work. Crustless spinach quiche is fantastic, y'all. It's great
17:57
I think it's all the cheese. Coming up next, it's time Bobby and I dig into our gorilla bread
18:04
and wash it down with our caramel cinnamon lattes. Delicious. I think the gorilla bread's gonna be ready, Mama
18:17
Yes. Y'all, we have come full circle. Can you get the door for me
18:21
We started with the gorilla bread, and now we're ending with the gorilla bread
18:27
Look at that, Bobby. And I'm making a caramel cinnamon latte. Now, I made a simple syrup the other day with a little cinnamon and sugar and water
18:39
Put a little bit of this in each cup. I'm going to add a little caramel sauce, y'all
18:51
I like it. In that goes. I like it. Decadent, son. I like it
18:57
All right, now a little bit of coffee. Ooh, careful. And look, this is strong coffee
19:02
I mean, I can smell it. It smells really, really good. Doesn't it smell delicious? Oops
19:07
Oh, your mama almost did it. Almost. All right, and now our hot half and half. Mm-hmm
19:17
I like mine just like you like yours. Okey-doke. And then I'm just going to stir them up
19:24
Mm-hmm. Wow. and I'm going to put a little dollop of fresh whipped cream
19:34
and a little cinnamon stick, son. And... It's like breakfast in a cup
19:42
I know. Don't put it too close to that gorilla bread. Perfect
19:46
All right, son, let's try and flip this over and see what we got
19:52
There we go. You want to let this sit no longer than five minutes
19:58
I like to pull mine apart just like that. You know what
20:04
You could probably dunk that in that coffee, too, and it'd be good. Mm. Here, son
20:09
All right, what you say? Let's pull off a bite. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm
20:16
Oh, my goodness. Oh, I'm so glad you like it. Love it
20:21
Son, the coffee is so good. I think everything we did was pretty good
20:29
Everything we did was pretty darn good. The company ain't bad either. I love the company
20:34
I love you. I love you too. Did you like the caramel in the coffee
20:39
I liked everything we did. It was all delicious. I love you. It was fun. Listen, I love you too
20:44
It was fun. Wasn't it fun, y'all? Love it when I'm in the kitchen with him
20:49
And as always, us crazy deans send you on loving best dishes every day
20:55
From our family to yours. Bye, y'all
