This is a dulce de leche pie
0:02
Okay. But so, sweetened condensed milk. Uh-huh. Back in the day, my mother, she would go in the cupboard
0:09
and take, you know, like one of these and dip a spoon in it
0:14
This is what my grandmother told me. And so she'd go to make a pie, and one can would be missing
0:18
And so she said to my mom, my mom's name was Janie Queen. Janie Queen
0:23
Janie Queen. She said, Janie Queen, where is that can of sweetened condensed milk
0:27
I'm just going to cover it. Okay. Well, she caught my mother stealing it
0:33
And my grandmother said she was going to take her to jail because she was stealing
0:38
And she grabbed her by the hand, Paula, and literally took her up the steps of the jail
0:44
And my mom thought she was going to get arrested. And that traumatized your mama
0:51
She said, I don't like condensed milk anymore. That's why. All right, now what are you going to do with that
0:57
Why are you putting it in that container? I just put the two cans
1:01
I'm going to cover it with aluminum foil. And then we're going to put it back here on the stove in a water bath
1:08
Okay. You could grab, actually, your roasting pan. Okay. And we just going to sit that in there and pour the hot water around it Exactly And then we going to pop this in the oven 425 for about an hour to an hour and a half or so and stir it occasionally lift this up
1:28
Actually, you know what, Paulie? You know it would be better if you do it like that. Then that way, when you go in there to stir it
1:36
If you didn't have that water bath, there's a good chance it would scorch it. Exactly
1:40
All right, so what temperature are we putting this on, Cheryl? 425. 425? That's kind of hot
1:46
It is hot. So it's going to be like a caramelized milk when it's done
1:50
Okay. It's going to be really brown and caramelized. It'll turn a beautiful, beautiful brown
1:56
And that's what makes it a dulce de leche pie. Okay, yay. All right, now you've got some butter in here
2:01
Do you want me to melt that? I do. Well, you are the expert at making these pies
2:05
No, honey, I've never made this kind of pie. Well, no, but doing the crust of graham cracker crust, I know
2:10
Yes, yes. So you want me to melt that butter. Yes, melt the butter. We've got our graham crackers
2:14
Right, exactly. We're going to use probably two cups. See? Two cups
2:18
And you probably can tell me this better than me. And how much brown sugar? Oh, I don't know
2:23
I would say about a quarter of a cup. So then we've just got to stick a butter in here, melt them down
2:39
That perfect So 350 350 16 minutes Yep In we go Meanwhile why don we make the topping
2:48
Okay. Paul, all I do is fresh whipped cream. Mm-hmm. It's just heavy cream
2:54
If you could put like about a quarter cup of confectioner's sugar. Okay
2:59
Yes, and I'm gonna step back. You know what? Actually, I like to start a little lower on my whipped cream. Uh-huh
3:06
And that's exactly the way I do it. And then when I'm ready to rock and roll, I'll do that
3:15
Okay, so it won't get all over my clothes. Rocking and rolling
3:19
Doesn't make for exciting TV, but it sure does keep me clean
3:24
Sometimes, Paula, I'll put a little of that really good sea salt on top when I'm putting it in the oven
3:31
So it's almost like a salted caramel. Dulce de leche. So here we are
3:35
Dulce de leche. So all you do is you pour it in there. All right, now we're going to be able to slice that
3:40
You know what? We're going to eat it like this now, but you can also chill it down
3:47
Okay. So, but, Paula, it's that easy. So, yeah, you can chill it down and then you can cut it, but it's going to be good just like this
3:54
Let's slice some bananas. This is our healthy component Ah ah Ah
4:12
And this is perfect. But just, you know, pile it on top
4:19
You don't have to do anything fancy. This is like a homespun dessert
4:24
And then, Paul, you want a great top one? Yes. I think that's good
4:32
Mm-hmm. I think what you say, let's taste it. Now, you know when we cut this, it's going to go everywhere
4:38
It is. It is. But, you know, it's all good. Oh, my gosh, y'all
4:43
This is one of those things you need to eat alone, Cheryl. Oh, in a closed room
4:48
In a closed room. Look at that. Yum. We're going to have to tilt this
4:55
Next time, we're going to have to chill it. We're going to have to tilt that up in the refrigerator kind of like that
5:00
But it's all good. It looks homemade. It is homemade. I'm not the bigger piece, Cheryl
5:05
That's okay. Okay. There's still more pie. Are you ready? Oh, my gosh
5:11
Paula, this has been so fun. Cheryl. All right. I always have the best time with you, honey
5:16
I always have the best time with you, too. Mmm. That was so good
5:23
Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm
