Hey, y'all
0:09
I'm in here in the kitchen with my favorite husband, Michael Groover
0:13
Hey, Michael. Hey. I'm going to teach you how I make your chicken fried steak
0:19
Did you ever make that when you were raising your children? You know, I tried, but I never, I couldn't do it as well as you
0:25
Well, it's so easy. I'm just going to put in some flour
0:29
Okay. How much? In this dish, a cup and a quarter. I'm going to put in a little salt
0:34
All right. A little pepper. Just stir that up. Yes, you can unwrap that steak, Michael
0:41
I'm putting some buttermilk in here. All right. And I'm going to put a little hot sauce in it
0:48
OK. Just a little. Now, let's come down here, and we're going to put a little of our house seasoning on it
0:57
which is salt, pepper, a little garlic powder. There you go. So we're going to put this in our flour
1:06
knock off the excess, and then we're going to run it through our buttermilk
1:10
and then back into our flour. And I've got our iron over here
1:14
Do you ever cook Michael? Michael. Michael doesn't cook much inside the house, y'all
1:24
but he is a great griller Let see if our grease is hot enough So is going to make a nice crust Michael Now it not going to take long
1:35
Michael, let me put this on. All of you seen this? Tell everybody about your pen
1:44
Every July the 20th is Earnings Hemingway's birthday. And there's an Ernest Hemingway look-alike contest
1:51
and I've been in it for four years. four years, and this year I think I'm gonna win
1:56
What makes you think you're gonna win this year, mister? This year we're auctioning off a dinner with me and you
2:04
How about that? How about it? So you're already doing something. You didn't know it
2:10
No, I didn't know. No, I hope you win because I know it means so much to you
2:18
Looking good, Mikey. It does look good. All right, split those biscuits and butter them, please
2:26
My man is so pretty. Looks delicious, doesn't it, y'all? Now, I'm going to make you some gravy. OK
2:34
Now, I'm going to turn this off. Whoa! What? That is firecracker hot, Michael
2:44
All right, I'm going to just drain most of that grease off
2:48
and leave a little wee bit for the flour. And see all those goodnesses that stuck in there Michael Oh yeah I going to loosen those up You know some people say they can make gravy and it really is easy I never done it too good Mine always lumpy I going to take out some of those crumbs
3:07
So I'm going to put about a fourth of a cup of flour. Why are you keeping it from getting lumpy
3:13
It'll be a little lumpy with those crumbs, but that's what makes it good
3:18
OK, salt and pepper. And I know you like it real peppery
3:22
Now, you want to make sure you cook it long enough that that floury taste goes away
3:27
OK, let me have this water. And that's going to make our gravy nice and pretty and dark
3:36
And if we need some more, we will add it. Now I'm going to taste it now for seasoning
3:46
She's going to say it needs salt. It does. It needs a little salt. But I got it so peppery
3:52
Isn't that pretty? And see those crumbs? You put more on it
3:58
Yeah, those crumbs I took out. See, I'm going to put them little bits of goodness back in there
4:03
and just kind of mash them. So look at that beautiful color, Michael
4:07
Mm-hmm. We're going to let that cook pretty high just for a few minutes
4:11
And you just keep adjusting your thickness with your water because that's what tastes so stinking good
4:19
So do you put onions in yours or not? You know, sometimes I do, but for chicken fried steak
4:24
it doesn't normally have onions. Mm It gone All right Out of the way OK I got to figure out which one is that one Oh f it
4:41
Excuse me, Lord. Excuse me, Lord. Thank you. Oh, now look, I got grease all over you
4:47
He waits until I get in front of the car, y'all, and he'll blow the horn
4:51
I will jump out of my breeches. Michael, you're going to love this gray
4:56
because I got it so hot with pepper. Mmm, good. Look at that
5:01
I didn't know you were going to do that. I didn't either. I never know what I'm going to do, Mikey
5:06
because sometimes I'll do something different, you know, every time. And that's what I try to tell everybody
5:12
You know, the first time, go buy the recipe, but the next time, make it your own
5:17
You know, do what you want to. Do what your family likes. So there you go
5:23
Thank you. My precious husband. Michael, this is one of what I call Paula's keepers
5:28
Uh-huh. Straight from the Dean family table. Have a bite. Thank you
5:35
Good. You gonna keep me? You're a keeper. Yum. Isn't that delicious
5:46
