Go. Yeah
0:03
Hey, y'all. Today on Paula's Party, I'm craving sweets. You have hit pay dirt today, baby
0:10
It's all about candy. I'm going to be cracking up a nutty brittle with the candy man
0:17
I just love you. I love you. And then I'm going to be whipping out my power tools
0:23
to make a coconut drop. Yummy, isn't it? So y'all bring your sweet tooth
0:28
Give Mama a kiss and let's party! Woo! Oh my goodness, thank y'all
1:07
Are y'all hungry? Yeah. You got a sweet tooth today, I hope
1:11
Yeah. Like this big? Because you're in sugar heaven. We got a great big handsome man back here stirring a beautiful copper kettle pot full of sugar
1:23
Sugar and corn syrup. Sugar and corn syrup. Two and a half pound of butter
1:28
Just a half a pound. So today's party is all about sweets
1:36
So what do you say let's get this party started? Y'all ready to party
1:53
Thank you. I appreciate it. Now, you be a good boy. I can't do a candy show without the real candy man of Savannah coming up here and helping me
2:11
His name is Stan Strickland. He is the owner of Savannah Candy Kitchens, and he makes the best brittle that you've ever put in your mouth
2:22
Stan, come on up here, baby. Thanks, Paula. Well, I've been dreaming of this
2:29
Oh, I've been dreaming of this, too. So this first recipe that we're going to do today is..
2:38
Paula's Nutty Brittle. Paula's Nutty Brittle. You know we always love to make peanut brittle, but we've made some just for you because we know the four nuts that you like the best
2:47
Almonds, cashews, pecans, and macadamia nuts. I'm going to even make a 10 to just sell in short time for Paula's Nutty Brittle
2:57
Special limited edition. Oh, Stan. Let's get these nuts in. What is it supposed to be, Stan
3:02
It's supposed to be at $2.95. Oh, gosh. We've already pre-roasted these
3:08
Uh-huh. So that really pulled the flavor out of those nuts, didn't it? If you were doing this at home, you couldn't cook all these together at one time
3:14
You'd have to roast them separately because they get hard at different temperatures. And, Stan, you've even brought in, like, a marble top
3:21
Yes, 450-pound marble top. Uh-uh. Local graveyard. Local graveyard. all right this stuff really needs something that makes it really really tough up and that secret
3:38
ingredient is salt and soda watch this okay staying up where did you learn the art of candy
3:47
why my mom worked in a candy factory back when I was a little kid and she always made candy at
3:53
Here in Savannah? No, down on a little place called Woodbine, Georgia. Uh-huh. We're making a big batch large enough that everybody can have some
4:00
Good, good. We're not going to be eating in front of y'all today
4:06
We're going to be sharing our candy. Paula, you've got to put on some of these. Okay
4:11
Let's see. Oh, gosh, I almost feel a little bit. This will burn you
4:16
I almost feel like a little bit bad when I put these on the stand. Where's my whip
4:26
I'm not going there. You don't feel like a little whipping stand
4:35
All right, now you grease this down, Stan. With what? Butter? I don't know. Butter
4:41
Paula, I want you to, when we get it poured out, I want you to take the last little bit out, and then you'll help us spread it, okay? Okay
4:46
Don't let it get on you. Y'all, when you're making brittle at home, that is the hottest hot in the world
4:52
Do I need to spread, Stan? No, not wait. Let me get you a trial. I can work with some cement
4:57
Now, give us a cut. Let's cut it back. Okay. Can you get that? Oh, gosh
5:00
Don't let it get on you. It smells so like butter. Oh, my God
5:05
I'm in heaven. Oh, good, good. Oh. Is that good or what
5:10
Oh, God. Oh, Lord. All right. Oh. Okay. All right. Here we go
5:20
Okay. We want to get these nuts spread evenly. evenly in this brittle
5:25
before we hand stretch it and turn it. You do that some
5:30
Don't get it on you, Paula. It is hot hot. Great time of day
5:35
Macadamia nuts? I love almost nuts. You're doing it perfect. I am. Oops
5:43
I think I've found me a new form of entertainment. We're going to be
5:50
keeping it all from sticking while you're stretching. Oh, you're doing great, Paula
5:54
I didn't know if you could do that. Oh, yeah, I can do it, baby. Yes, you can. Concrete worker
6:00
Wait, what am I stepping on over here? Oh, I'm stepping on brittle. Good, Paula
6:06
It's hard, Stan. It's getting hard. Yeah. Oh, Stan
6:18
I'm speechless. I am too. Oh, my God
6:30
All right, Stan, what do we got to do next? We're going to flip it, and then we're going to hand stretch it
6:35
so everybody in the audience will have enough. That's great. When we come back, we're going to flip, break, and eat
6:43
So we'll see y'all back here in just a second. Whoo! Coming up, we're finishing up our nutty brittle
6:55
No. And later, a homemade candy bar, a sweet, salty treat. Look how perfect
7:12
Welcome back, y'all. I'm... Y I here with Stan Strickland Stan the candy man here in Savannah We making Paula nutty brittle Do I have that knife up underneath Good good I like to get it on the other side I get it Oh you going to get it
7:35
Go ahead. I'll get it. We're letting it cool just to where we think we can handle it, flip it, without tearing it up
7:40
Can we get it thin enough? You did pretty doggone good. Let's cut this thing in half, Paula
7:47
Okay. I think it's too big. Stand back. No, no, no, Paula. It's easy
7:52
Easy? Yeah. Yeah, let's walk down the hill. Why walk down the hill when you can run, Stan
8:02
You're getting it. Come on. Uh-huh. Oh, wait, I was using not the blade
8:07
All right, there you go. Don't let me cut you. See, if we pull it now, it's going to tear
8:10
You've got to wait a minute. Uh-huh. Don't we want it to kind of tear? Yeah, but after we get a little cool, we want to stretch it
8:15
Look, yeah. Stretch it. It's crunching over here. Phew. Boy. I know and I'm hot and tired, ain't you
8:26
You want a cigarette? Oh, man. I'm done
8:40
No, you ain't, baby. I ain't through with you yet. You got me speechless
8:45
Let's see if we can flip it. Come around this side, Paula. Don't get that on your butt
8:49
That's hot. That's like a hot poker. All right. We're going to try to turn this whole thing
8:53
One, two, three, go. Yes. Now let's pull it. Now pull it
9:01
That's okay. Come here, Paula. Look at that, y'all. Look. Paula, come here
9:07
Let's do it again. You have messed up my floor, Stephen Strickland
9:11
Bubba will take care of it. Let's go. One, two, three, go. All right, stretch
9:18
Wait, I'm folding up. Yeah, stretch it. look at me staying I am ruined butter I am ruined no you're great all over me
9:34
what does everybody want some brittle follow why everybody's getting some brittle we gonna let this cool a little bit more than I got a special surprise
9:45
see that chocolate machine over there we got milk chocolate there we're gonna
9:49
to dip some in chocolate then we go maybe change a little bit do some white
9:54
chocolate on that then you really got something all right well I'm ready I got
9:58
my piece bring it on this is this is really like Willy Wonka isn't it we
10:05
watch that every month just is this the way we do it drop it in just go in and
10:11
come out come out hold it right there yeah hold it right there let it stay
10:17
right there. That's what's happening Paula. That's okay. Well wait I got another end
10:26
Uh oh. Is that a sharp blade? No it's not sharp. Paula
10:35
Go! Go! Oh man come on. No! All right, we're going to let that cool
10:48
It takes a little bit of time to cool. And this is what we wanted to end up as. We've already dripped some in white and some in milk
10:54
and then we've taken some white drizzle. I love that piece. You like that
10:57
That is a beautiful piece. I'm talking about your gloves. Oh. I feel like I'm going to leave
11:05
Come here, Stan. Stan, come here. You know what? You got it
11:11
I just love you. I love you. You do? Give me a kiss
11:24
I love you, Daryl. I love you, too. I love that. You're so sweet
11:31
All right, we need one drizzler. What do we drizzle with? We're going to put that white chocolate on it
11:37
Okay, we drizzle with a spatula. Let's find something to dry this off. We would do this a little differently at work, okay
11:43
But you're good at making a mess. Go ahead. Drizzle it up
11:48
Okay. Just what you see how we did. You do it any way you want to. Oh, I'll do it like I want to, yeah
11:52
Who didn't know that? I like it in circles. I like that
11:58
And if we keep that at about room temperature even at 65. Is that good
12:04
65 or 70 degrees, it'll get up just like this. Not rush it
12:13
That's good, tasty. Ain't that yummy? Yeah, yummy, yum. That's a glazed, is that good or what
12:27
Here. Oh, my gracious. So how'd y'all like the peanut brittle? It's yummy, isn't it
12:40
Yum, some nuts to go with it. We'll be right back, y'all
12:45
It's all about candy today. Take it, Bubba. Up next is caramel, nuts, and marshmallow
12:55
A very sweet love affair. You have hit pay dirt today, baby
12:59
And later, I'm going to be putting some power behind a coconut recipe
13:05
Go ahead, Paula. You're getting there. Oh, my goodness
13:19
Y'all are great guests. I'm having so much fun. You know, I almost wore myself out a while ago with all that brittle
13:30
And did y'all see what I looked like when I left? I had butter all down the front
13:36
I had peanut brittle all over me. And look here. Do you see I'm spotless
13:43
Can any of y'all tell me what I did during the break
13:48
What did I do, honey? Change your clothes? Nope. What, honey? What do you think I did
13:55
I think you put your shirt on backwards. I did! All the gunk's back there
14:05
All the butter and peanut brittle is on my back. But in looking at y'all, I look fresh, don't I
14:14
So I'm going to share with y'all my recipe for salty dogs
14:19
It's a homemade candy bar that's both sweet and salty. I'm using a package of butterscotch morsels
14:28
And we're going to just melt those up. And when they get soft and pliable again
14:34
I'm going to add one cup of marshmallow cream and a half a cup
14:40
See, this recipe is really very good for you because I'm adding a half a cup of powdered milk
14:49
And that's supposed to be good for you, right? Oh, good. Y are gullible too Y ain just pretty All right So this is softening up some So I going to take our marshmallow cream
15:11
All right, now I'm going to stir in the milk, the dried milk
15:17
Now, what about those questions? Y'all are not talking to me. Paula, you look great
15:22
How do you stay so skinny? With all that butter and chocolate
15:27
Now you're pulling my leg, aren't you? No, I'm serious. I'm actually a marathon runner
15:33
I thought so. So that keeps me pretty much in shape. Y'all believe that, don't you
15:43
I'm going to add one teaspoon of vanilla. What did you say
15:48
I thought I saw you running outside. Well, I was. And your spandex? And my spandex
15:53
and my, what kind of bra do they call that thing? Sports bra
15:59
Yes, I was in my sports bra. And Michael was with me
16:06
You know, if we're going to lie, let's just go ahead and lie big time. All right, y'all
16:12
Now, I've got that mixed up. Now, I'm going to move this over. Well, thank you for the compliment
16:18
but you're so sweet to say that. You make an old lady feel good
16:22
But now I've accepted my size and who I am today, and I'm very comfortable with that
16:30
I'm fluffy and very happy. All right, sweet pea, you've got something to say
16:40
How much is Jamie enjoying being dad? Oh, my goodness. You know, I had this sneaking suspicion that Jamie was going to be a fabulous father
16:51
He's amazing. He brought that baby home from the hospital, and he immediately started taking care of that baby
16:58
He's a dedicated, fabulous father, and I'm so proud of him. He's taken to it like me to a salty dog
17:07
So all we're going to do is form these. Now, you can make them any size
17:12
You can see I made mine a little bigger. The kitchen has gotten me started
17:15
So I'm going to come over here now and take our fingers
17:20
and I'm going to dip them in to a melted caramel. Yeah, look at that
17:28
And these are kind of messy. But the children love getting in the kitchen and helping out with this stuff
17:34
because it is kind of messy. It's kind of one of those just fun candies to make
17:42
Now, I'm rolling this in peanuts. And then I'm going to put it on my parchment paper
17:53
And let them dry out a little bit. After I rolled it in the nuts, I dip it in chocolate
18:05
Mmm-hmm. Now I got my melted chocolate back here. And now I'm going to just take these and roll it
18:19
No, I ain't. Look there
18:30
Look how perfect. And that's milk chocolate. That other I have is dark chocolate. Whoa
18:39
Oh, man, I lost one. You want to say something? Well, by golly, you say it, baby
18:48
Paula, I just want to say I disagree with the slim thing. I think you got a plum juicy thing going on and looks good to me
18:55
You don't think I'm skinny? No. Well, you have hit pay dirt today, baby
19:00
All right. Because this ain't no exactly a giada sitting here. Okay
19:08
Hey, this is a gorgeous woman sitting here. You're so sweet. Listen
19:14
Paula. I don't care whether you have money for glasses or not
19:20
You don't need those glasses. I don't need them. I don't need them. You know, just because you were so generous with your compliments
19:30
I get some candy. You get some candy. All right. This is probably not hard enough, but that's all right
19:36
What did you say? That's delicious. Paula and Peanut. It's going to get even sweeter, y'all
19:46
Stick around. We'll be back in a couple of minutes. Coming up, coconut candy with a chocolate twist
19:58
And later, fudge and a flash. Y'all, we're having a sugar-coated party today
20:10
We've gone nutty with the Candyman's Grill and a homemade candy bar
20:14
Oh, my gracious! That is so good. Had the audience just pure eaten out of the palm of my hand
20:21
Ooh. In a minute, y'all, I'm gonna be taking out my power tools
20:24
Stand back, women at work here. For a real sweet coconut candy
20:34
Welcome back. Thank y'all. Y'all are so kind. Welcome back. For y'all that just tuned in out there
20:41
we have been in a candy wonderland today, hadn't we? It's just candy everywhere
20:48
And this show, this celebration, this party would not be complete without a dish that I want to share with y'all next
20:58
And I want to set this guest up just a little bit. My children have a show called Road Tasted, and my children went to Key West and visited this bakery
21:13
They fell in love with this woman and her food. Henrietta, come on up, dear
21:24
Hello, Carla. It is so good. It is so wonderful to be here, Paula
21:33
I am just delighted to have you. It always warms my heart to see people do well, and especially women
21:42
When you've got a mom and pop business and anybody shines a little light on you, it helps so much
21:47
It helps a lot. It really helps. So tell me how you started your business. It's called
21:52
The Art of Baking by Henrietta. Uh-huh. Coconut is my thing. I say, you get a Georgia peach and an island coconut together
22:01
you don't know what you might get. Because you are actually a Georgia girl, aren't you
22:09
I am a Georgia girl. I was born and raised 35 miles from here, Liberty County
22:13
Yes, that's where my father lives now. Well, when I watched this show that you did with the boys
22:19
I was all but licking the TV screen. but you making coconut drops Coconut drops Well you ready to get started Yes I am And listen I understand Henrietta Yes Oh I was over there flirting with this little thing
22:36
Yes. I found out it was your son. That's my son. You know, your son's got a way with words
22:43
Yes, he does. Well, what is all this? Do you actually have this in your..
22:49
Oh, yes. Oh, yes, Paula. You know, Henrietta, if I had had things like this in my kitchen when I first started out
22:59
I could possibly be serving jail time. For killing folks. So we're opening these up so we can get to that coconut meat inside
23:11
First of all, we're going to give you this. And you're going to put that there
23:15
And you're going to just hammer his eyes out. Because we have to drain the coconut milk out
23:20
There you go. Henrietta, the first. Paula, Paula, you were squeezing his head too tight, Paula
23:40
I did. I got too big a grip on him. Look at that, Paula
23:45
You were squeezing his head a little bit too tight. I'm scared
23:49
You've got to have it tight so you can... Henrietta, the first time
23:53
Oh, my milk! That's okay. Oh, Paula, this is really... Okay, okay
24:04
Oh, there's a lot of water in there, though. I've never seen that much milk in a coconut before
24:09
Uh-oh. I mean, I busted him, didn't I? You busted his head, Paula
24:13
Well, let's just kind of... All right. Let's just kind of... Now, see if you can get this
24:18
Now, how much should I yield out of there, do you think? See, water coconut
24:22
Out of a coconut, mm-hmm. Probably a cup, and if it's a big coconut, you might get more than a cup up
24:29
Yes, come down. We're just peeing coconut milk everywhere. Get up here, handsome
24:36
Okay, you, come on. You help Paula with the, um... Help Paula? Well, she's doing a pretty good job herself
24:42
Okay, I'll just... Okay. You don't, you're not going to smash me, are you? No
24:46
I'm going to try not to. Did you get through? Yeah, you were through there
24:53
I'm done. You're done? Very good. I got me three holes. You got three holes
24:58
I got three holes. Now, let's see how much water come out of there, Paula. It was leaking while you were doing it
25:05
Yes. Okay, Paula, we're going to put yours back in. Okay. But put it this way now because we're going to... Okay
25:11
Eyes out. Get your goggles on, Paula. All right. Now, this is going to mess up my hair, dude
25:18
I don't have no work. Henrietta? Are we going scubaing or? No, we're going to
25:28
This is going to mess up my hair. Now, that's great. Uh-huh
25:34
All right, Paula. Stand back. Women at work here. Great. Time of day
25:41
Oh, no, you can't do that. You got to hold it with both hands. Well, who's going to hold my glasses
25:47
Yeah, I'll hold your glasses for you. Okay, you hold my glasses. All right
25:51
My thing ain't on here straight, Henrietta. It's not. I think because it's broken, it's..
25:58
All right, let's go. Paula, you see that groove right there? Put it in that groove
26:06
Very good, Paula. Very good. Very good. Yeah
26:15
Is it hard? It's going, Carla? You better hold up with both hands
26:23
I couldn't see. Okay, I'm right there. You're right there? Go ahead
26:32
Keep it going. No stops. Keep it going. There you go. Keep your hand on that
26:41
Go ahead, Carla. You get in there. Press the button hard. Yeah, there you go
26:47
There you go. There you go. Go ahead. Oh! Oh, my God
26:57
Ah! All right. You got it. You know what, Henrietta? That's a great caller
27:05
You know what? What happened? I don't think I like coconut that much
27:09
You don't think you like coconut that much? Oh, I'm sweating. I'm going to sit back down
27:13
I think y'all got that. You think? You got it. This is what it looks like when we finish cutting
27:20
Shut up, Henry. Listen, y'all, I got to take a break. I got to go fix my hair
27:28
We'll take you back in a second. Up next, it's a chocolate finish for this sweet coconut candy
27:38
And later, a candy bar fit bug queen. And I get to eat it
27:42
Yes, you do. Thank you
28:15
And the way I do it, Paula, I just like cut down and do a twist and it pops right out
28:20
Yeah. So you go ahead, do a twist. Yeah. And just see, it comes out
28:24
I got you. Like this. And it pops out. But it takes a while, so you got it
28:30
Henrietta, the first time I ever used a fresh coconut, I chased that sucker all around the garage with a hammer
28:39
With a hammer, huh? With a hammer. Yeah. And my grandma wasn't home
28:43
And when I finally got her, I said, Grandmama, I have spent the afternoon chasing around a coconut
28:50
She said, Paula, you're supposed to put them in the oven. Yes
28:54
Have you ever heard of that? No, tell me about that, Paula. She told me to put that coconut in the oven, heat it on like 250 degrees, and then it'll split nicely
29:05
Really? Because we didn't have all this stuff in our kitchen. Paula
29:11
Now, let me show you this. Okay. Show me. This looks like a pretty young coconut
29:15
It's got a smoother skin. And that's what you want, a young coconut? Well, I give them old, young, middle of age
29:24
But this is how it looks when it's all done. It's very nice, and it's cleaned up and washed and cut in bite-sized pieces
29:32
Two medium coconuts. We're going to put it in a pot. All right, now we're using cast iron
29:39
That is excellent. I like cooking this in cast iron pots. It cooks it much better
29:45
Now, there's three ingredients to this candy, just three ingredients. Fresh coconut, fresh ginger root
29:53
and natural brown sugar. Now, the ginger root has already been cut up, so we put it
29:59
this in here now let me say that a lot of ginger and to me ginger is strong it is strong but i'm
30:06
not putting all this ginger and this is this was two pounds well it looks like you are no no i think
30:12
that's enough a little more ginger let me tell you about the ginger ginger has lots of fiber in it
30:20
mm-hmm so when you're eating this candy as i'm pointing this when you're eating this candy that's
30:25
It's the fiber in the ginger. It's not hair in the coconut because it has a lot of fiber
30:31
A little fiber is good for all of us. Now you cook this, Paula, for three to four hours
30:37
Wow. With the ginger, just the ginger and the coconut, because you have to cook it that long to get the taste of the ginger all through the coconut
30:47
So it has to be cooked that long, and it actually tingers the coconut up
30:51
And tell me about the water real quick, like Henrietta. On the first stages of cooking it for the three to four hours, you can fill your pot up and let it boil
30:59
It has to boil for three to four hours. And you just keep adding water to it
31:05
Okay, well, we don't have three or four hours, do we? So this here, this shows you that now this coconut has been cooked for four hours with the ginger
31:19
And then you put, where's our sugar? Here. Oh, this is nice, natural sugar
31:26
Naturally, baby. Only the best for you. Only the best. We're going to add four cups of brown sugar to it
31:32
Okay, Paula, you can stir it up. Okay. And then you let that boil
31:37
Now, how long are we going to cook this for, Henrietta? This should cook at least 30 to 40 minutes
31:42
If you start it out with a roaring boil. And then it cooks right down
31:48
When it's finished, we should not have any liquid. It should be like a candy steak
31:53
A syrup. A syrup. All right. Now, this is what it looks like after we let it cook down
32:00
Okay, there we go. Now, you see that it's... Turn the stove
32:04
Yeah, see? You see how it's thickening up? It's cooking right down. Now, at the end of this, you don't want to see any of that syrup in there
32:12
It has to cook all the way down. And optional, I do this
32:17
I take recipes and I make them my own. I do what I want to do with them, you know
32:21
Which is great. One of the things I do sometimes is throw some pecans in there and let it cook down with it
32:28
Let's do, let's do. You want to put some? Yes. Okay, Paula. I love pecans. See
32:33
You know, that looks good, Paula. Well, I was going to put all in there, but I need to save some
32:38
You know, we're going to get some in chocolate. Oh, well, I can get you some more nuts, honey. This ain't no cheap show
32:44
You throw all your nuts in there. Now, that looks very good
32:48
I mean, that does look delicious. See, the next step is when it cooks down
32:52
you're gonna take this, like this, and you gonna drop it on a non floor to keep it from sticking How long does that take to set up Not long at all I like to let it set about 15 minutes to make sure the inside the sugar is cold and set inside
33:11
But this is the finished product. This is what it should look like. Yes
33:17
Look at that. It looks like coconut sitting on top of a praline, doesn't it
33:23
I'm going to put that in some chocolate. You want me to put this in some chocolate? Honey, I'll do anything you tell me to
33:31
All right, let's see. Because you can put, yes. But this, you dip it in the chocolate
33:40
Listen. Oh, my goodness. You have a good time with this chocolate fountain, don't you
33:47
Yes, I do. Yes, I do. You know, and that's so important that we have fun with our food
33:53
Don't you think, Henrietta? You know, this is a wonderful gift that God gave us
33:59
Yes, it is. The pleasure of being in the kitchen with family and friends and eating
34:04
Isn't it wonderful to be able to taste? I know. That's the move, when you taste
34:09
Now, Paula, let's come over here with this. And now this is also a way
34:15
Now, as soon as you take it from the chocolate, you can put the nuts on it
34:19
And it looks like a big, you know those candy called a turtle? You know the..
34:23
I'm very familiar with a turtle. You're very familiar with it. But this is the, now, that's the finished product with the nuts and the chocolate
34:33
Look at this, Paula. You see how it's cooking down? You see that, Sarah? Look at that
34:38
It's cooking right down. That pot's got it going on there. I love this pot. Can I take it back to Key West
34:43
Yeah. This is great. I would love for you to have my pot
34:48
Yes? That's a great pot. Henrietta. Yes, Paula. This is so good
34:54
And the ginger flavor, y'all, is so totally unexpected. I bought one for everybody in the audience. Yay
35:04
I'm so glad to hear that because I didn't know how I was going to share this one
35:08
We'll be back in a minute. Thank you, Andrea. Coming up, chocolate fudge, y'all
35:16
And something so sweet. It's going to make your teeth ache. It's this chocolate
35:22
solid chocolate. Welcome back
35:35
Thank y'all. Thank y'all. Thank y'all. I can't believe that our together is almost up
35:42
But I've got just about five or six minutes that I can share one last recipe with y'all
35:49
And I call it dummy fudge. If you can't make this fudge, you're a real dummy
35:54
So I need a dummy My buddy Stan Strickland is sitting here waving his hand saying I the dummy Paula This man ain no dummy You saw him earlier on the show with me and he is a candy man here in
36:11
Savannah. All right now I was your assistant Stan earlier. And a great one. Thank you helping you
36:19
make your brittle. So why don't you come be my assistant and help me make this dummy fudge. You
36:24
Want to? Can't wait. I'll do everything you tell me to do. Suck
36:31
That's kind of a tight squeeze. That's really tight. This is the easiest fudge to make, Stan
36:37
And I know you make delicious fudge down there, don't you? I think we do
36:41
It's the first product I ever made. Really? Yeah, fudge was my first thing
36:45
Fudge was your first product. Well, I'm going to start by using a cup of chocolate morsels and a cup of butterscotch morsels
36:53
and a 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk. I make a fudge that's real, real easy to make
37:02
But, you know, I save that for days that we're wanting to eat healthy
37:07
because I use a processed cheese to make that fudge. So that's my healthy, healthy version of fudge
37:17
But we're going to take this, and all we're going to do is just stir this, Stan, until it melts
37:23
You want me to do that? Yeah, you do it. Knock yourself out
37:28
Look at the camera, Stan. And stir? Yeah, stir and look at the camera
37:32
Okay. I want y'all to see his pretty blue eyes. He looks like Paul Newman, doesn't he? Yeah
37:38
About the same age. No, I think he's got you beat, doesn't he
37:44
Maybe a little, not much. But tell me about a Christmas special you did
37:48
with a couple of hunky-looking boys. It was great. Jamie and Bobby gave me a call, and they were doing the road tested
37:54
Road tasted? Tasted. I said tested one time before. I talked them into coming to see us, and they watched us make our stuff
38:02
and said, you guys need to get ready. You're going to sell a lot of stuff. I said, well, we're used to selling a lot of stuff
38:08
Not. We were not ready for what happened. What happened? What happened was the first hour that it showed, the next two hours
38:16
we took seven or eight hundred web orders, not counting the phone
38:20
In the first hour. Yeah, and then we had to cut the phones off about three days before Christmas
38:26
Did you really? Yes, it was the first time in 30 years we had to stop shipping candy
38:30
You don't mean it. Yeah, it was a great feeling, though. All right, honey, take that off the heat
38:36
Going this way? Just take this off the heat. Okay. There you go
38:40
We're going to stir in, oh gosh, about a teaspoon of vanilla
38:46
And about a cup of nuts. You can use any kind of nuts you want
38:50
I like pecans, though, for fudge. And we're just gonna stir that together
38:55
and then we gonna just pour our little concoction into a buttered nine dish Okay And it will take but about maybe 10 minutes
39:08
for this to chill down in the refrigerator so we can cut it and eat it
39:12
Could we taste something like this before we did that? You can taste it any way you want to
39:17
We've got any way to get it. Oh, yeah. We've got fingers. We've got the best tools in the world right here
39:23
Just pour that on in there. Look at that creaminess of that
39:27
Can you see it? That really got a great texture, Paula. Oh, it looks so good
39:33
What do you call it? Dummy fudge. Dummy fudge. That's why you got me, eh
39:40
You just stood out in that crowd stand. Thank you very little
39:47
All right, look at here. I think we got a little bit of it. That was ours. Huh
39:51
Oh. Oh, that was our fudge. Well, here. Look at me. All right, so taste
40:01
That's really good. Isn't that good? Five-minute dummy. I like it. Mm-hmm
40:05
All right, well, look. I've got some that's chilled off. And you know what
40:14
This is rich stuff, so you want to cut little tiny kind of pieces
40:21
Because if it's rich, you don't want a lot of it? That does not sound like the typical woman, does it
40:29
No, it does not. I can't believe how good that looks. All right, the first piece is yours, honey
40:35
Thank you. Before we taste it, let's make a toast. You want to
40:40
Love to. What are we going to make? A toast to a really sweet day
40:46
I think that's a great toast. Come on, bite. You bite it, baby
40:53
I got something for you. There is no party without something that's called a favor
41:02
Come stand right here. And we have a favor we especially made for you
41:07
Okay? Stand over here close. I wondered what this big thing was. Easy. Easy
41:11
we made we made about no 15 or 20 of these molds and we went from 60 pounds to 23 which this one is
41:28
until we could ever get it to firm up right and get it right is this chocolate solid chocolate
41:34
and i get to eat yes you do stan i just love you thank you i love you too
41:41
Where's Michael? I don't know where he is, but he's going to love me
41:46
You're so sweet. Thank you. Hope all your parties are sweet out there
41:51
Thanks for spending the hour with us. We love you. Bye
