Mama, where did a pecan sandy start
0:06
Is that a southern cookie? Your grandma, Paul, called them sand tarts
0:11
and she made those all the time. She lived in a trailer park
0:15
That's when you know you're from the south and your grandma lives in a trailer. Thank you
0:23
Thank you very much. Thank you, Mama. Hey, y'all, you know, my kids know me as a cooker man
0:29
not a baker man, but I've come to love cookies. So I'm always looking for a super delicious
0:35
easy cookie recipe, and these are Butterfingers I'm going to share with you today
0:39
They're kind of like pecan Sandys, but I shape them into fingers. So let's get started. Super easy
0:45
I'm going to put in two and a half cups of flour. Got some granulated sugar
0:51
We're going to use three quarters of a cup. Oh, gosh, did y'all see that
0:55
What? Did you see that, Mama? No, son, I didn't. Oh, good
0:59
I put sugar in the flour. Oh! Sorry. Boom! We have people that'll go through grain by grain
1:08
and take care of that for me later. I got about a cup of pecans that I chopped If you want to use some different kind of nuts you can but we love pecans We got four or five pecan trees that run down our driveway and I used to carry Jack around when he was a baby
1:25
and when he found out that there's a nut on the ground that we could crack and he could eat
1:29
plus we had to battle the squirrels for him, that was enough for him
1:33
He loved that. We'd have to try to trick the squirrels to get our nuts
1:36
So he's nutty for pecans. Ah! Where's my sign that says laugh
1:44
He's nutty for pecans. Oh! We do what we can. This is one teaspoon of real vanilla
1:55
and I've got two sticks of butter. Now, when you crank this, it's gonna be a clumpy batter
2:01
So let's get this going. It's not gonna really smooth out, because we're gonna work them out with our hands
2:07
So if this is a really smooth batter, Y'all have made a mistake at some point
2:11
And we call them butterfingers because they've got the two sticks of butter in it. Now, if you wanted to put walnuts or anything in here
2:17
you could trade it out. Now, I'm gonna make these into fingers. Remember when y'all were little boys
2:23
Yep. And we'd go visit Grandma Paul, and she'd keep them in a cookie tin
2:28
All good grandmothers should live in a trailer at some point These I remember taking my friends over there to eat You talk about cooking Mm And she had a garden in the backyard
2:42
And that's where I learned to really love to knock the dirt off my food before I ate it
2:47
That's why at our house here, my boys and I have a little piece of garden that we work with
2:53
This year, we planted blueberry bushes. We have strawberries. It's the first year that we've done strawberries
2:58
Next spring, you ought to plant potatoes, because Jack loves coming to my house
3:04
and digging for potatoes. And do you remember when you and Bobby were little
3:08
y'all would get so excited to know you were going to Granny Paul's and digging her potatoes up for her. Yeah
3:14
So this is going into the oven at 325 for about 30 minutes
3:20
And look, I've got... Oh, this oven's hot. I've got some that are done
3:24
Let's pull them out, because we're not quite done. Oh, these smell delicious
3:30
So see, they're butter fingers. Ooh. Good job, audience. So the last thing that we do, y'all
3:40
is we're going to take these and dredge them through some powdered sugar. See, aren't those nice
3:45
Yes. Now you tell you a trick that I learned when I was my son age when I just started school It always best to stay on your teacher good side And my mama can flat cook and has always cooked
3:58
So when it came to be holiday time, I would bring Buckeyes and Divinity
4:03
and things like that for my teachers. And I think sometimes that's the only thing
4:07
that got me through middle school was the desserts that I used to bring to people. I've shared this secret with Jack
4:13
So now Jack packs up desserts to take to his teachers. So if you take these little Chinese containers, they're super cute
4:20
You can drop some down in here. You can write the teacher's name on it
4:24
You can put a bow on it. Mama used to do hers in jars. If you're doing something special at the house and you've got a bunch of different kids that are coming around
4:32
you can put three or four of these in here, stick them a napkin, get you one of these markers
4:37
and let's write Jack's name on here. That way they don't fight over them
4:42
You can take this out. Oh, how cute. Have a few cookies and spend the day together
4:46
Jamie, you know you got a room full of retired school teachers out here
4:51
I'm going to bring y'all some cookies. Do you like that, girls? Yes! Thanks for tuning in
4:56
Let's call this Jamie's Cookie Corner. I'll see y'all next time. Want a cookie, Mom
5:03
Yes. Oh, I love them
