0:05
For those of you that have just tuned in,
0:07
today we're having a first Saturday
0:10
here at Michael and Paula's house.
0:12
Now, first Saturday, what is that?
0:15
The first Saturday of every month here in Savannah
0:18
we celebrate down on river street.
0:20
All the vendors come out with their foods
0:22
and there's artists and there's entertainment
0:25
and lots and lots and lots of real good food.
0:30
Now, I wanna get started on some cinnamon rolls.
0:34
I'm gonna pour a half a cup of water in here
0:37
and I'm gonna pour a small one fourth of an ounce packet
0:41
of yeast and I'm gonna let that sit for a minute.
0:49
Now to our milk and our butter I'm gonna add a fourth
0:55
A pinch of salt and one egg.
1:01
Now to this I'm gonna add two cups of flour.
1:06
And this is an all purpose flour that we're using
1:08
because we have our yeast that's going in
1:14
That's gonna do all that beautiful rising for us.
1:17
I'm gonna stir that up.
1:19
And the yeast just had a chance to ripen so we're ready
1:26
And then we're gonna add our last two cups of flour
1:30
because you can see this is kind of soupy.
1:35
I just love the smell of yeast, I just love it.
1:38
It takes me back to my school days when the,
1:41
when the kitchen in school made those yummy yummy
1:46
heavenly light as a feather yeast rolls.
1:56
Okay, so this is a total of four cups
2:00
of our purpose flour that we've got.
2:02
Now we're just gonna mix this up and I'm gonna come in here
2:08
with my hands and just kind of knead my dough
2:12
and make sure all that flour is mixed in, alright.
2:17
Now I'm just gonna cover this,
2:18
like I said let it double in size.
2:22
When it's twice that size we know it's ready.
2:25
You wanna cover it and I've got one over here
2:28
that's been sitting in a nice warm place
2:32
and you can see that it's doubled in size.
2:35
Okay, now we're gonna take a little flour
2:40
and we're gonna dust our board
2:43
and we're gonna take our dough and roll it out
2:49
and you wanna make sure that you flour
2:52
your rolling pin real good.
2:54
You don't want the dough to stick to your pin so here we go.
3:00
Oh, these are gonna be so wonderful.
3:04
We're gonna roll this out to about a 15 by nine
3:08
and that looks like we're getting very, very close.
3:12
Now we're gonna take our lovely, lovely
3:15
wonderful smelling piece of yeast dough.
3:18
And we're gonna brush it with butter.
3:24
Hmm, I could almost eat it raw.
3:32
Now for the good part on the inside
3:35
now I'm gonna take two thirds of a cup of sugar
3:38
and I'm gonna add two tablespoons of cinnamon
3:41
and I'm just gonna toss some together,
3:45
just mix them up real good
3:48
and then I'm gonna sprinkle our dough
3:52
with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
3:59
Alright, now I'm gonna spread a mixture
4:02
of raisins and chopped walnuts.
4:05
A lot of folks don't like the raisins, so if you don't
4:08
just leave them out but I just love 'em.
4:11
And I think maybe they're probably good for you.
4:15
Alright now, starting at the small end,
4:18
we're just gonna lift this and roll.
4:29
And this is gonna make 12 good size cinnamon rolls.
4:39
I'm gonna put our dough into a pan
4:42
that's been buttered and sugared.
4:45
The sugar will help 'em from sticking to the pan
4:53
Look at that beautiful cinnamon roll.
5:01
We're gonna let 'em sit in a warm place
5:02
for about 45 minutes and when they're ready
5:07
we're gonna pop 'em into a 350 degree oven
5:12
and we're gonna bake them for about 30 minutes.
5:16
I've got some in the oven ready for us.
5:21
Lynn you can see what that buttering sugar did
5:24
on the bottom is giving it a little bit more sweetness.
5:28
Now this is just a simple glaze y'all
5:31
using two cups of powdered sugar, half a stick of butter,
5:35
a couple of tablespoons of warm water and a teaspoon
5:38
of vanilla flavoring.
5:40
Doesn't that look just incredible?
5:43
You can see the hotness from the cinnamon rolls
5:46
are starting to melt down our frosting.
5:51
And do you know my favorite cinnamon roll
5:55
Do you see which one it is?
5:58
It's that one in the center.
6:00
It's got all the goop on it.
6:09
How awesome does that look?
6:16
Mmhh, oh my goodness!
6:22
Michael can have the candied apples.
6:25
I'm gonna have to send them and rolls.
6:28
And coming up next y'all, we're changing gears.
6:33
We're gonna have some calamari 'cause I know
6:36
everybody loves candied apples and calamari.
6:38
(bright upbeat music)
