And what I wanna show you next.
0:02
I came up with one at the restaurant
0:04
when I was doing all the cooking
0:05
I got so bored with my side dishes
0:08
and I said, surely there's a twist
0:10
that I can give to this corn.
0:12
Well, I found a way and it really, really is good.
0:16
You start with fresh corn
0:18
we're gonna take just a regular piece of bacon,
0:21
you know bacon grease and corn goes together.
0:24
We're just gonna spiral this piece of bacon
0:27
around this piece of corn, just like that, so simple.
0:32
And then we're gonna put his husk back up around him
0:36
and then we're gonna take ordinary twine
0:39
and we're gonna 'em back together
0:41
because we don't want our piece of bacon
0:43
coming off onto our grill.
0:45
I remember in high school
0:47
I had a teacher that had never married
0:49
so I guess you could classify her as an old maid.
0:53
And you know, I thought she never really quite liked me
0:57
until my daddy had all of us cheerleaders over
1:02
for one of his barbecues.
1:05
After that night, Ms. Plant was so sweet to me.
1:10
Not only did she fall in love with my daddy
1:12
she fell in love with his chicken.
1:14
So my daddy sure helped my last year of high school
1:19
I've got my chickens ready and I've got my corn
1:23
and I've got our new barrel grill out here
1:25
that's waiting on us.
1:27
Now, we're gonna let that corn cook for about 30 minutes.
1:30
While we're waiting for our corn to cook
1:31
I wanna give you just a few quick tips.
1:33
When you're cooking your corn on the grill like I'm doing
1:36
you can take the silk off your corn
1:39
and soak it husk and all in cold water for about 10 minutes
1:44
and then you put it on the grill.
1:46
That way the water in the husk
1:48
will keep it from burning up on the grill for you
1:50
and it'll be a beautiful golden brown
1:52
instead of a black burnt crispy look.
1:55
And another thing when you're boiling fresh corn
1:57
add a little vinegar or lemon juice to your water
2:01
and it'll keep your corn this vibrant bright yellow.
2:04
And instead of putting salt, try and add a little sugar
2:08
it will bring out the sweetness
2:09
and make that corn better than ever.
2:13
and I bet you've never had this either.
2:14
baking grease and corn.
2:17
It don't get no better than that guys.
2:20
You better watch that.
2:25
I've got some more over here buddy.
2:28
- Well, y'all start eating guys.
2:30
- What's Jody doing there with his corn?
2:32
- I'm taking this husks off
2:34
I've never had it with bacon before.
2:37
- Well you look like you're doing fine by it.
2:40
Now look darling has got going on Jody.
2:43
Look, he's using his husk as his handle.
2:50
I really, really do wanna see the sites
2:51
before the sun goes down.
2:52
- [Michael] Definitely, I'm ready.
2:54
- Can I take this with me?
2:57
- I bet if I wrap it up and we finish it when we get back.
2:59
- Oh, that'd be great, that'd be wonderful.
3:00
Thank you. - [Paula] Wonderful.
