Hey, y'all
0:01
Today on Paula's Party, we're cooking up foods from my other favorite city in Georgia, Atlanta
0:07
I'm going to be pulling out all the stops with a homemade taffy
0:12
Oh, it feels so good. An Atlanta Brave pitches in on glazed ham
0:19
You think all you need is your fastball, boy? Y'all know there's nothing more Atlanta than a red velvet cake
0:25
It's a home run every time. So y'all come on in for a big bite of Atlanta
0:32
before it's gone with the wind. So let's party! Thank you
1:28
Smokey and the Bandit. How did you know? Who said Gone with the Wind
1:36
You know it's Gone with the Wind. We all know that Gone with the Wind took place in Atlanta
1:42
So today, we're paying tribute to Atlanta. Y'all, we've got Miss Atlanta right here
1:49
Isn't she beautiful? And sitting right here next to you, this is Tim Hudson
1:58
He is a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves. So what do you say
2:04
Let's celebrate Atlanta today and let's party! Everybody knows that the women that have been born and raised in the state of Georgia
2:19
are referred to as Georgia peaches. So I think it's only befitting that our first recipe start out with a peach
2:29
Now, if you come to Savannah, there's a very, very good chance that you're going to run into my first guest
2:36
He's Stan the man, the candy man. Stan, come on out, honey
2:43
Thanks, Paula. Great to be here. Stan owns Savannah Candy Kitchen. You've got one of your special candies that you're going to share the recipe with us today
2:56
We're going to make peach taffy. Peach taffy. Atlanta peach taffy. Atlanta peach taffy
3:02
Well, let's get started on making this peach taffy. All right, this is something, Paula, you really can do at home
3:07
Now, I got a really big pot here, and we're making a 30, 40-pound piece
3:11
Yeah, we all have this pot in our kitchen, don't we? At home, you could do this in a skillet
3:17
And it's only sugar and corn syrup, so it's not going to burn. You just got to get the temperature right, and the temperature is about 250
3:24
And we already have that ready. Oh, good. I want you to... Where is it? It's right over here
3:28
I want you to get ready. You're going to do a bigger workout than Jane Fonda's got you stretching here
3:34
I might need to call in some recruits. We hope this comes out
3:40
I see it coming out. Oh, okay. That is what is in that back
3:45
Whoa, whoa. I'm going to wash my hands, and we're going to work this by hand
3:49
and you're going to stretch, stretch, stretch it. Okay. Get this on your hands
3:53
You don't want to be too sticky. I'm hoping one of those rings will fall off
4:04
You're not going to put it in your pocket if it does, are you? You know what, Stan
4:09
I think I better take it. Oh, now we're talking. I don't trust you, Stan
4:16
I don't trust you a bit, baby. No, I am not. No, I am not
4:27
Where's the good spot? Look at that
4:36
I love this show. Now, you love this show. Now, you'll take care of it, won't you
4:42
I will. Okay. Man, you gave it to a pretty one. I'm telling you
4:47
All right, get some of this cornstarch on your hands or you don't get so sticky. And I want you to stretch like you were working with Jane
4:52
I want you to pull it. This is what you do at home, okay? Okay. Pull it hard
4:57
Come on, get after it. You're not... That little old piece won't get it done
5:03
Come on. Come here. Come here. Come here. Now you're cooking. Let's take it up here
5:10
Take it up. Come here. Get on that side. Get on what side
5:16
This side. We need a hand bullet. This side. Oh, I don't know about this
5:26
Let's take this thing to something that'll really pull it. Hold that, Paula. Paula, come on
5:30
Come on. We've got to go. Let's go to the machine. Paula
5:47
What? Paula. Paula, at home, you would have to hand pull this for like 20 minutes, okay
5:54
But we don't have time for that. That thing will hurt you. We're going to put it on here and then let you go to work
6:01
And the reason you pull it, you want the air in it so you can chew it. It would be too hard otherwise
6:06
All right, see it getting white now? Getting some air in it now
6:09
Yeah, I see it. See, just pull it back here. Okay. Whoa. Wait
6:16
Our guys didn't lock the wheels. Here, I'm going to lock the wheel
6:21
Thank you. Oh, boy. This is going to be our peach taffy
6:27
We're going to, as soon as you get a little more air in it, we're going to flavor it and color it
6:31
You are going to flavor it and color it. Okay. Well, why don't we do that when we come back
6:35
That sounds great. You want to? Y'all don't go anywhere, because Stan and I are pulling taffy
6:41
and there's going to be more sweet Georgia recipes coming up. Up next, y'all, I'm all wrapped in sugar
6:55
You want a bite of my necklace? And later, my Atlanta peach cobbler
7:15
I here y with Stan the Candyman He teaching me how to make Atlanta peach taffy And now we going to flavor it right
7:37
Yeah, and I'm not even going to try to tell you how much. It normally doesn't take very much, but I know you're going to use more than..
7:41
All right, where'd I put it? You put it right here. I'm not even
7:46
Whatever you make is going to be good. Just in a little hole? Yeah, just pour. That's good, that's good
7:51
Smell it. Whoa, Paula. Paula! What? Paula! What? That's just $100 a bottle. Oh
8:01
Oh, I do smell it! Now we've got to be real careful that it doesn't catch it
8:10
Do it a little twisty, pull it back, pull it back. You've got to stretch, Paula
8:14
You come from here, get it from underneath. Pull it. Bring it back here
8:20
Come on. Back here, Paula. Back where? Way back. Give it some air
8:25
All right, now you're cooking. All right, now let's get some color in it. Great
8:33
Time of day, you could almost be skinny doing this. This is more stretch than you've done this week
8:39
Wait, give me that thing. All right, color. Color. Now, I wanted a peach color, so you kind of watch what you do, and you decide when you
8:49
like a... Oh! The peachy color. That's a good save. They told me it didn't take much
9:02
I said, there's no sense in saying that. She's going to put in what she wants. All right, look at those pretty stripes
9:08
Now, this is just going to end up a peach color. Look at it, y'all
9:12
Look at that color bleeding through there. At the same time, it's still getting that area in it, so you'll be able to chew it
9:18
You chewed it when it was too hard. Oh, that's a great color, great color
9:24
Look how pretty. That's enough, Paula. I love that color. How much is that a bottle
9:37
Fifty. You can afford it. I heard how much candy you sell
9:47
All right. Gosh, did I get the color right? You got it. It looks perfect
9:51
Look at it. It's time for us to take it off now. I want you to help get ready to get it in
9:55
We got to get it in a ball. Okay. Here we go. I need to put some more corn. Yeah, get some more out
9:59
Oh, I need some more, too. Okay, here we go. All right, I'm going to bring it to you, and you're going to make it like a loaf of bread
10:07
I am? Yeah. It's going to be like a loaf. How are you going to get that off
10:13
I'm not sure. Wait a minute. Here we go. Oh, you're not going to
10:20
All right, you got it. Make me a loaf of bread. Okay
10:24
Eat that stuff. Eat it. That's it, girl. You got it. Great
10:34
It needs to be bigger. Oh. Oh
10:49
Oh. Oh. Am I doing it? Oh, you're doing it. Alright. It matches my shirt
10:57
It does. That's why we picked that color. Look, girls. Alright, we'll steep
11:05
Oh, it tastes like peaches. It should. Well, what we're going to do now, we're going to put it on a roller, but you don't need
11:18
to do that. long piece and you can cut it however you want to at home okay okay but we're
11:23
gonna take this one and put it over here and put this over here to roll and I
11:27
don't know maybe you want to use this your piece you want me to take this off yes oh this one has a green stripe in it oh it feels so good
11:49
How's that for a piece of jewelry
11:59
That ring in there looks good. And when you get hungry, it is. That stuff will be fun
12:09
You want a bite of my necklace? You're on a fight
12:35
You're on a fight! We'll be right back, y'all! Coming up, it's Peach Cobbler Fit for a Queen
12:57
Isn't that yummy? And later, this Atlanta Brave hams it up in the kitchen
13:16
Oh, my gracious. In case y'all have just tuned in, we're paying tribute to the great city of Atlanta
13:25
And the recipe is peach cobbler. We make this cobbler every day at the Lady and Sons
13:32
So, I'm going to start with our peach cobbler. I've got one stick of melted butter here in a 13 by 9 by 2 pan
13:40
I'm going to make a batter of one cup of milk, three-fourths a cup of flour, three-fourths a cup of sugar
13:46
and then I'm going to use a large can of peaches, juice and all
13:52
If it's peach season and you can get fresh ones, do that
13:56
Cover them with some sugar. Now we're going to add 3 fourths of a cup of all-purpose flour
14:02
and then I'm going to add 3 fourths a cup of sugar. Paula
14:05
Yeah, darling. You cook like this at the Lady and Sons? Do you still cook like this at home, too
14:11
Guilty. I'm impressed. How do you think I got my man, honey
14:16
I'm taking notes. I'm taking notes. Do what? You're making notes. I'm taking notes, yeah
14:26
Well, honey, the way to his heart is definitely through his stomach. That's what I hear
14:30
It definitely is. All right, now I'm going to add one cup of milk
14:37
All right, anybody else got a question? When peaches are in season, do you prefer Georgia or South Carolina peaches
14:46
I prefer Georgia peaches Okay now I going to pour the batter in over that melted stick of butter and then I going to ladle these peaches on top and we going to bake it off at 350
15:14
Hi. Hey. Congratulations on the birth of Jack. Oh, thank you. Thank you. Thank you
15:20
Any advice? It was a long, hard labor, but I got it wrong. Well, you look good
15:26
Not bad for just having a baby five. Not at all. A grandbaby. Well, do you have any advice I'm going to be a first-time grandma
15:34
You must have started when you was, like, 12. Well, where are you guys from
15:39
Actually, I'm a Yankee. Huh? From Michigan. You're a Yankee? I'm a Yankee
15:46
We love Yankees down here. But we love you. Do you know where Atlanta is
15:53
See the map? Come on in here, handsome. Look at this good-looking camera man, would you
16:00
Aren't y'all see it? Savannah's over... Where is Savannah? It's kind of like somewhere right in there
16:12
You know, I was absent that day in geography. Y'all want to hear something so crazy
16:21
I was invited to be a guest on the Oprah show. I took my Aunt Peggy, I got my boys
16:28
We all loaded up the car and we headed to Beverly. Chicago, that is
16:37
By the time we got to Chicago, I was exhausted. So my Aunt Peggy and I got on one of those tour buses
16:44
I'm sprinkling on a little cinnamon, y'all. This is optional. I just happen to like the flavor of cinnamon on this
16:51
We're going to put this in the oven, 350, for about 25 or 30 minutes
16:56
The only way you can screw this cobbler up is by using the wrong flour
17:04
You must use a self-rising flour. And you do not stir it because that batter is going to rise up above those peaches, making a beautiful crust
17:15
So we got back to our hotel, met up with the boys, and I said
17:21
You are going to be so sorry that you didn't go on our tour
17:25
because you would not believe the Atlantic Ocean and how it looks up here
17:31
versus the Atlantic Ocean at our house. Jamie Dean looked at me with the biggest disgusted look you can imagine
17:45
He said, Mama, you saw the Atlantic Ocean? I said, Yes, and it's not the color ours either
17:58
He said, Mama, Mama, you don't know where the hell you are, baby
18:06
Mama, that is the Great Lakes. It ain't no ocean. I can't believe I tell that story on myself
18:14
but geography apparently wasn't my strong suit. All right. Well, let's move on
18:25
Oh, my goodness. Mmm
18:37
It's good. You know what? I think this cobbler needs to be crowned
18:47
Come on up here and let's crown this cobbler, honey. With some ice cream
18:53
You want to? Sorry, I didn't mean to spit on you. So, Miss Atlanta, come on up here, honey
19:05
So, Miss Atlanta. Yes. What is your name? My name is Chastity Hardman
19:11
Ms. Chasity, why don't you dip us some ice cream? Okay. Can you do it
19:16
Sometimes that ice cream is so hard. Scoop here. Yes. Y'all bring out the audience some cobbler
19:28
Get in there and get your big ol' bite. You don't have to take a princess bite
19:34
Mmm. That is good. Isn't that yummy? Would y'all like some ice cream, my sweet babies
19:41
Bring out the audience some ice cream, and we'll be right back
19:49
Up next, y'all, an Atlanta Brave pitches in on Coca-Cola glazed ham
19:55
And later, frankly, my dear, it's just sweet potato pie. So far today on Paula's Party, y'all
20:10
it's been a great tribute to Atlanta. The peach taffy pulled me in all directions
20:16
Miss Atlanta crowned my peach cobbler with ice cream. Up next, y'all, an Atlanta brave
20:22
is gonna be making home run ham. I pronounce you the ham king
20:30
Now, you're spoiling me. You're spoiling me. You're spoiling me. Listen, I've had a complaint from one of the wives in the audience
20:45
She told me that her husband is so lazy and so bad in the kitchen
20:52
She said, Paula, could you please help me just teach him how to cook something
21:00
So I'm gonna try. Come on up here, Tim. How are you doing
21:09
Boy, I just got them falling at my feet, girl. Absolutely, absolutely
21:16
If you didn't catch it at the top of the show, this is Tim Hudson
21:20
He's a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves. He's got a tremendous, tremendous fastball
21:25
And you've got your precious wife sitting out there, Kim. Absolutely. She complained a little bit about you
21:30
So, Kim, are you telling me he's not as good at home as he is on the field
21:35
God blessed him with an arm to throw a baseball, but he can barely pour himself a glass of milk or anything
21:41
He needs some major, major help. Are you going to be able to help me out? You know what
21:45
I'm going to give it my best shot. Now, is it because you don't want to learn or you're lazy
21:50
She's so good at it. You think all you need is your fastball, boy? Do you get nervous, Tim
21:57
No, I get anxious. Before a game. I get anxious. I get anxious. I don't get nervous. You ready to go out there and just kick butt on that field
22:02
Absolutely. I'm going to show you how to kick butt in the kitchen. All right
22:06
Let's do it. This recipe is so easy that you'll blow Kim away with it
22:12
This is a fully cooked, smoked, cured ham. We don't have to worry about cooking it for hours and hours and hours when we put it in
22:22
All we have to do is make sure that we baked it long enough to get warm to the bone Now at the Lady and Sons when we serve ham we always pour a little Coca over them The Coca is going to help make them tender and
22:40
moist and just a little sweet. And you can use any kind of cola you want, but Atlanta, Georgia
22:49
is home of Coca-Cola. Okay. There's your pitcher. We're going to put maybe..
22:55
There we go. We're going to use what's equivalent to maybe two cans of cola
23:01
All right. Wham. There we go. All right. All right. Picture. Picture for the pitcher
23:07
A pitcher for the pitcher. This is cute, huh? Okay. Now, we're just going to pour
23:13
that cola all over your ham. Are you a lefty? I'm a righty, actually
23:22
Oh, okay. I wish I was a lefty. Lefty pitchers are bad to the bone, aren't they
23:30
I've heard that. I think I've heard that. They are bad to the bone. But what I know about sports, you could put through an eye of a needle, I'll tell you
23:37
All right. So, but I'm going to make sure I start watching you
23:41
Okay, you better. All right. I'm not going to do... I'm going to start watching you all the time. Absolutely
23:46
Oh, you didn't watch me before? My wife does every day. She does
23:52
Every day. She loves you. I teem-o'd the episode where you had the Butter Wranglers on, and he was so scared
24:00
He said, I don't want to go on that show. Why did I make you nervous? He was licking stuff off of them
24:05
Oh, I was not. I did not do that. I was like, well, I better get a fresh..
24:11
Did I really? Yeah. Did I really kill them? It was great
24:16
I don't blame you. They were cute. I was licking them. He was licking them. Why do you think I have a fresh shave right now
24:21
Alright. Let's do some studding. You want to do some studding? I'm ready to do some studding
24:29
Alright. I want you to take these clothes and just stud them
24:33
around in your pineapples. Okay. How many in each pineapple? Four or five. It doesn't matter. Let's stick them all the way down and that will help
24:41
the pineapple hang on to your ham. Oh, okay. They're like pins
24:46
That's perfect. Yes. They're like pins. They're like. I'm not your average dog
24:50
I can't trick you, kind of. Yeah, this one's got brains, too
24:56
I got something. I got beauty and brains. I don't know if it's brain. Come here
25:01
Let me blow in your ear and see. Did you feel anything? It didn't come out by the side
25:09
Perfect. Now, I was talking to you and your wife earlier, and I found out that y'all have three children
25:15
So you're doing something right at home. We're doing something. I'll tell you that
25:22
I don't know if it's right. We're doing it. That's all that matters
25:32
All right. So you've got these three little children. What are their ages
25:36
Five, two and a half, and one and a half. That is a fabulous age for children
25:41
It's such a fun age. They still love their parents so much, and they want to be with y'all
25:50
Trust me. One day you're going to come home, and they're going to be mortified that they have to even ride in the same car with you
25:56
much less want to be with you. So they're at a great age to get these children in the kitchen and get them involved
26:06
Absolutely. And so I'm hoping that today will inspire you to get in the kitchen
26:13
and bring those little children. All right, now I'm through preaching now
26:18
Hit the hole, baby. See if you can hit that hole. Got it. You have done a fine job up to this point, Tim
26:26
Perfect. Okay, so Tim, you're almost done with your ham. Now we've got a little light brown sugar here
26:33
and I want to make sure that I use light brown because if I use dark brown, it would really get this too dark
26:39
So just take your brown sugar and kind of just pat it around on your pineapple slices
26:47
and that's going to melt and run all over your ham. We're going to cover this with tinfoil, y'all
26:54
Tim is going to stick our ham in the oven, a 325-degree preheated oven covered in tinfoil
27:01
and we're going to bake it for about two hours, maybe two and a half hours
27:06
depending on how big your ham is. You are now the Ham King, baby
27:12
Awesome. I pronounce you... The Ham King
27:26
Paula, can I interrupt for one second, please? Absolutely, you can. We brought a little something for you, and I'm afraid Tim might forget
27:34
You can't. From the Atlanta Braves and from Tim and I. No, you don't mean it. Yes, ma'am
27:37
Do you know I'll have to arm wrestle the men in my family. Wait, now we have to put this on
27:46
We have to put this on you. So I. No. You're welcome
27:59
You're welcome. Here, hold it, hold it. Put it on me, baby. Put it on me
28:09
We'll be back in a minute. We're gonna get this ham cooked before the day's over, I promise
28:15
See you back in a minute. Up next, it's Sweet Potato Pie
28:22
And later, Atlanta Red Velvet Cake. That's Fit Fog Groom. Welcome back, y'all
28:43
You just caught me over there, the girls, and I was just talking about jewelry
28:50
And the men in our lives. Jewelry and the men who give it. And in case y'all didn't know, we like the ones that give it
29:03
All right. Coca-Cola ham from Atlanta, Georgia. See how pretty that is. Mmm. Mmm, y'all, that's good. All right. I've got a question to ask y'all
29:24
In the movie Gone with the Wind, there was a very significant food that really stood out
29:34
Do y'all know what that food was? Sweet potato pie, exactly. That's a very, very southern dish
29:44
So I'm going to make y'all my Gone with the Wind-inspired sweet potato pie
29:50
So here we go. And if y'all want to talk, talk to me
29:55
because this is so easy to make. I can actually make this and talk at the same time
29:59
I've got two cups of sweet potatoes. Now, if you've had baked sweet potatoes the night before
30:05
got some left over, throw them in the fridge. You can pull them out, peel them, and this will make
30:10
a fabulous sweet potato pie. And you can use canned, but don't. Don't. All right, so I'm going
30:19
to add some sugar, and I'm just going to cream this up real good. Now, we're going to toss in
30:27
two eggs and keep creaming. See how easy this is? Now I put a flavor in this pie that you
30:39
usually don't expect in a sweet potato pie, and that's some ginger. So in goes a little
30:46
ginger, a little cinnamon, a little salt, and at this point, to flavor it, you can either
30:54
use a vanilla flavoring or you can use a little bourbon. Just a tablespoon or two of bourbon
31:01
All right, now we've got that smooth. Now I'm going to add a little milk
31:10
There we go. And this is about the color of my top, but I still don't want to get it on my top
31:17
All right, now a little melted butter. Now we're just going to pour this
31:22
into a pie shell, just a frozen pie shell. If you want to, you can make it from scratch
31:31
You can use the frozen kind, or you can get a nice pie crust
31:36
in your dairy section at the grocery store. So you can use any of those that you want to do
31:42
We're going to pour this in. We're going to bake this pie for about 50
31:48
about 50 minutes, 55 minutes, until it's set. And you can shake it, and if it's set
31:54
then you know it's ready. And this is what the pie will look like
31:59
after it's cooked. Lots of times, our sweet potato pies
32:09
don't have a meringue. They're usually just a plain old sweet potato pie
32:13
We may sprinkle it with a little powdered sugar or maybe eat along with some ice cream
32:18
but I wanted a beautiful meringue on this pie. So I've got some egg whites that have been stiffly beaten
32:29
and I'm just going to pile this up. Now we'll want to make sure when you're meringuing your pies
32:35
that you seal the top of that pie with that meringue. You'll want to bring it out and seal up those edges real good
32:43
because you know how meringue will weep on you. You know what I'm talking about
32:49
And it get that syrupy light running out of Mmm Oh that mighty tasty All Alright so here we go Paula I have a question
33:06
Yes, baby. All my single girlfriends back in Atlanta want to know if Bobby has lady friends
33:13
If he has a lady friend... Well, they think he's so cute. We all think he's so cute
33:17
Of course, I'm married. No, he is not married. Well, I'm married, so I'm just asking for my single girlfriends
33:22
So you're just asking why? For my single girlfriends in Atlanta, right? Okay
33:30
That's what we'll say. That'll be our story, and we'll stick to that. Okay
33:37
Bobby does not have a steady. I don't know how many unsteady
33:44
That's probably something Mama wouldn't even want to know. All right. So we're just going to curl up our meringue
33:52
Now I'm going to stick this in a hot oven, y'all, and let those tips just kind of get nice and brown in maybe eight minutes, not long
34:16
Doesn't that look yummy? Before I cut this pie, I've got a couple of questions to ask y'all
34:22
A little trivia. There was two lines in Gone with the Wind, y'all, that everybody remembered and stuck in their mind
34:34
One of them was when Scarlet was out digging up the sweet potatoes
34:40
Do y'all remember? All right. I want y'all to all read this along with me
34:47
You girls stand up. Now what are you going to say? As God is my witness, I will never go hungry again
34:58
Y'all got it. All right, guys, what's your line? For anybody here, I don't give a damn
35:11
We'll be back in a minute. We're playing tribute to Atlanta, Georgia
35:17
Coming up, the Atlanta Red Velvet Cake. We have had a ball today, y'all
35:38
We're paying tribute to a great city here in the state of Georgia, Atlanta
35:44
And I want to end the show today with a very sweet, wonderful, traditional, southern recipe
35:55
And I can think of anybody any better to prepare this cake for us than my cousin Johnny Gabriel Come on out here girl
36:11
Hey, darling. Come on out, okay? I love this girl. I love this girl
36:22
Johnny owns a bakery in Atlanta. Actually, Marietta is. Marietta. Gabriel's desserts. Right. And she's here to show us how to make an Atlanta red velvet cake. Oftentimes you'll find at weddings that there are two cakes here in the south. I mean, I definitely had my wedding cake and then I definitely wanted Michael to have a groom's cake. And I think we got some grooms here with us today, don't we? Well, let me ask you this, guys. Are you going to have a groom's cake
36:54
Yeah, I didn't even know what a groom's cake was until Kelly told me we had to have one
36:58
It's just your favorite cake. It can be anything. What about you
37:02
The red velvet cake. All right, baby. You're our man because that's what we're making today
37:07
Let's get started, Johnny. Let me tell y'all this funny story. You start making this cake
37:12
All right. And I'll talk. Okay. You do that. Let me tell y'all
37:17
One summer, I went up to Johnny's house. Johnny was born and raised in Macon, Georgia
37:23
It was the summer that I turned 11 years old. Johnny was a couple years older than me
37:31
We got on our pajamas. We're ready to go to bed. And she looks at me and looks down at my legs and says
37:39
Those are the ugliest, hairiest legs. You had some hairy legs. I did
37:45
I had some hairy legs. And Johnny says, I think it's time for you to shave them, Paula
37:52
So she goes to the bathroom. She gets a single-edge blade. Well, that's what I could sneak
38:00
And she said, okay, just put your leg up. Take that razor and just pull it up those legs
38:11
The next day, my legs, they were so burned from shaving them with no water, no soap, no anything
38:19
But they didn't have any hair on them. No, they didn't have any hair on them. So Johnny taught me how to shave my legs for the very first time
38:26
I've been shaving them that way ever since. All right, Johnny, what you got in here
38:32
I've got a cup and a half of sugar, two eggs. So this is oil and vinegar and vanilla and an ounce of this red food coloring
38:41
So stand back. I will. I'll stand back. But it's better if you mix your liquids together. Uh-huh
38:46
And that way you don't have it. It's fast. This is a fast mix cake. All right
38:51
There we go. All right, we're gonna mix this up pretty good. See how pretty and red that is, y'all
38:57
Can you see ooh look This is also one of my favorite cakes to serve at Valentine With it being red you kind of just associate it with being romantic
39:09
Okay. Yes. Okay, what is this? Now this is the flour. It's two and a half cups of flour, and I'm going to mix all the dry
39:16
Okay, now you're adding to that one teaspoon of cocoa and one teaspoon of baking soda
39:22
And then you're going to mix that the old way with your flour, then your liquid
39:26
Okay, and we're going to start with flour. and in with flour, I tell you what. Okay. You beat, Johnny, and I will add your dry ingredients for you
39:34
How about that? That'll be good. Let me get this. And then we're going to just alternate it with the milk just like this
39:44
This is kind of the standard way to put together a homemade cake
39:50
You always want to start with your flour and end with your flour because it just makes for a creamier batter
39:57
And I don't know why that is, Johnny. I did it because my grandmother told me to do it
40:02
She was the best baker. All right. We got some red cake batter here
40:09
We're going to put this into three cake pans. We're going to bake it for probably about 25 minutes at 350
40:17
This is what our layers are going to look like. And a red velvet cake, you must, must use a cream cheese icing
40:29
With pecans. All right. Toasted pecans. Toasted pecans. Toasted. Toasted will bring out the flavor in these
40:37
So we're going to frost this with a cream cheese icing, which is so good, so simple
40:42
It's cream cheese. It's butter. It's the best. It's powdered sugar. It's the toasted pecans and vanilla
40:50
You can whip it up like that. There's no cooking to it. In fact, it's delicious
41:00
Look at this beautiful cake. Oh. Wow, cabal, Johnny
41:13
Wow, cabal. Pass me a plate, honey. All right. Come on out
41:18
Come on, girls. Johnny and I could not possibly stand up here and eat this cake in front of y'all
41:31
Not at all. So the girls have just brought y'all out a red velvet cupcake
41:37
So y'all chow down and enjoy. I want to thank y'all all so much for coming today
41:41
Y'all have made this party so much fun, and I swear if you'll come to every Paula's party
41:48
Y'all shall never, ever be hungry again
