Y'all ever try to cook with your mama
0:05
and it just don't work? So this is actually a pretty healthy recipe
0:08
when you don't take into account the three cups of marshmallows, and the cup of heavy cream, the confectionate sugar
0:14
the marshmallow. Other than that, it's perfectly a diet dish. Hey, everybody
0:27
Yes. Welcome back to the Paula Deen Network. When I was a kid, and even now as an adult, I remember you always making ambrosia at Christmas time and at Thanksgiving
0:36
This was something that we always had in our house. It's a very seasonal dish for me. Every time I make it, it's a little bit different, and it's never exactly the way that you made it
0:44
And I want to show you kind of my version of your classic ambrosia. That is great because, you know, I'm 23 years older than Bobby, and there's a new generation coming along
0:55
And this new generation can show us the older generation their way of doing things
1:01
So I'm always interested in learning, son. Some people in their ambrosia will use sour cream and even mayonnaise
1:09
Some people would use it in their ambrosia. But people who know me know
1:13
I ain't never here to that. Well, my ambrosia, we're going to use Greek yogurt
1:18
So if you will, go ahead and begin to whip the cream for me. My ambrosia is a real liquidy you eat with a spoon
1:24
and then I do sweetened whipped cream a dollop on top This is my ambrosia I know and I having fun I following your instructions Alright do it Alright how much sugar you want me to put Three tablespoons please
1:39
Okay, look at that one. That's one tablespoon. Ooh, look, that might be five tablespoons
1:48
Ha ha! Well, how do I turn this thing on? Aren't you Paula Deen? Yes
1:53
Can't use a mixer? But... So, do these ingredients, Do these look like the same ingredients that you would use in your Ambrose
1:59
Well, you know, but we're doing yours, which I'll do mine at another time
2:03
So this is actually a pretty healthy recipe when you don't take into account the three cups of marshmallows
2:10
The heavy cream. And the cup of heavy cream. The confectioner's sugar. And the mountain of confectioner's sugar that my mom just put in there
2:15
And the coconut. So my ingredients are all prepped. And the sweet cherries. Other than that, it's perfectly a diet dish
2:21
You're coming along. I love it. I know that you do. You're coming along nicely
2:25
My ingredients are all prepped. So what I'm going to do, Mom, is just put them in the bowl. Are you going to use all those marshmallows
2:30
I am. Three cups. A cup of coconut. Okay. A cup and a half of pecans
2:37
Okay. Is Claudia familiar with the dish ambrosia? I don't think so
2:42
A cup of oranges. Half a cup of maraschino cherries. And one 20-ounce can of pineapple
2:53
Do you put the juice in all? Absolutely. Because I remember your ambrosia being really, it was a wet, like a cold salad
3:06
Oh It it good It delicious Is it You got nice stiff peaks
3:13
That looks good to me. So why don't we fold in some of our Greek yogurt. Okay
3:19
And how much, how much Greek yogurt, son? Why don't we start with like a..
3:23
I'm not familiar with this one. Maybe a half cup. Okay. So, I'm just gonna fold, fold, fold
3:31
Y'all ever try to cope with your mama and it just don't work
3:35
Yes, it does work. Doesn't it work, y'all? It does. Well, she ain't your mama
3:43
All right, have you tasted it yet? No, but I want to because I've never. This is going to be very new, new, new
3:49
Oh, that's wonderful. That's really, really good. That is so good, y'all
3:53
Yes, it is. It's very sweet. It's very light and fluffy. I love it
3:59
And it's very satisfying. The Greek yogurt doesn't take anything away from it at all
4:03
That is so good. Yeah, Greek yogurt is my friend. That looks really good to me
4:14
Here you go, Sonny Bowie. Thank you, Marma. How are we going to serve our friends over there in the audience
4:19
I'm going to just put this. Now, yours is a little thinner
4:25
I think it would probably pay off to drain your pineapple. I think you might be right
4:30
But, you know, since you're doing a thick ambrosia. Too late for that, Pearl
4:36
How can we add some color to that Well we just need some maraschino cherries to put on top Just put right on top I put many more maraschino cherries in it than what you do but I mean that all right
4:51
That is all right. Dissatisfaction from Paula Deen. No, no, no, I'm just saying, and I drain my maraschino cherries and rinse them
4:59
You're just looking at it? You're just judging it? No, I'm trying to pull your cherries off
5:03
Please. I love you. I love you, too. I love your ambrosia
5:08
I want you to try it. Don't double dip now. Not. Do you like it
5:16
Is it good enough to serve our guests? Yes. Hey, everybody. Hey
5:23
All right. This is very good, very different, and I love it, son
5:29
I learn something new every day. When you taught me how to cook as a kid, you said always go exactly by the recipe the first time
5:34
and then after that, make it your own. So that's what I've done. I've made my own ambrosia salad
5:39
And if you like this recipe, you can get it. You can get my version
5:43
You can get her version. And you can get it on the Paula Deen Network
5:47
So thanks for watching. This would be delicious on how to take this well by this
5:54
Yes, it would be, Marma. Thank you
