Y'all, I'm joined by Kent and Doody from Disney Channel's Shake It Up
0:06
Shake it up. We're going to shake it up in the kitchen. And it's all about after-school snacks
0:11
First up, it's my delicious vegetarian pizza. I wish I would come home to these
0:16
Then I'm frying up fresh grouper fingers with a homespun tartar sauce
0:22
Mmm. And for a tasty treat, sweet and chewy oatmeal raisin cookies
0:27
And they're looking fine. And finally, I'm mixing us up some Lady and Sons Lemonade
0:34
That is the best lemonade by far that I've ever tasted in my life
0:38
So stick around, because you never know what's going to happen when two crazy kids get together. Whoa
0:46
Your turn. I love how cooking brings people together
1:02
Because the family's important to me Well, Paula's passion for food Keeps people in a happy mood
1:11
Everything's better with butter Paula Dima like any other Wanna live off the borderline
1:20
You're adorable! He's so cute, so sweet
1:30
You know, he's just adorable. I've always looked up to Paula, and so I just always wanted to be able to go and tell her that in person
1:37
and actually be able to cook with her. I am thrilled that you're here
1:41
You're adorable. Thank you. And you're on Disney, right? Yes, Disney Channel
1:46
Shake it up. Shake it up. Shake it up. And we're going to shake it up in the kitchen
1:50
Yes, we are. Yes. I'm shaking already. Up first, I want to show you how to make some delicious oatmeal raisin cookies
2:01
I'm going to beat up some butter and eggs together. Two sticks of butter and a couple of eggs
2:07
And while I'm doing this, if you'd measure out my dry ingredients
2:10
It's one and a half cups of all-purpose flour, a teaspoon of salt, a teaspoon of bacon soda, a teaspoon of cinnamon
2:19
So you can just put all that in here, Kenton. Okay. You know, bacon is definitely a formula
2:26
It is. It is. You know, when I was five, I believe, is when I really got into baking
2:31
And so that's where I actually learned fractions and everything else. So when I went to school, I was already basically with fifth grade math
2:38
You know, this is a great source of information for children. Teaches them a lot about math, doesn't it
2:46
And chemistry. So next year in science, it's going to be a piece of cake
2:51
You know, children love being in the kitchen. It's a wonderful place to build memories for them
2:57
A teaspoon of salt, a teaspoon of cinnamon, and I've had your raisins plumping over there
3:05
in just a little bit of water, Kenton. Okay. And I've got a collard over there
3:09
You can just drain those right in there. Whoops! Sounds great. I was looking at you
3:14
I thought I was fixing to have an accident. All right. I'm going to add a cup of brown sugar
3:22
and I'm going to add a half a cup, Kenton, of just granulated sugar
3:28
Now we're going to cream all this up real good, and then we're going to add your dry ingredients to it
3:35
That sounds good to me. Kenton, I couldn't believe when they told me that it was your dream to come in here in the kitchen and cook with me
3:43
It was. Well, you know, she's just always had such a great relationship with her sons
3:47
and you can tell that family's really important to her, and it's the same in my household
3:51
But, you know, it comes down to that very identical thing, and that's family
3:57
You never outgrow that. This looks good and cream, and I've added the vanilla
4:02
All right, now I'm just going to take our dry ingredients. and I'm just going to beat them in
4:10
and if you'd measure us out two cups of oats and I'm going to let you do that
4:16
since you're so big and so strong. Why, thank you. Do you get a lot of fan mail
4:21
Oh, I know you do. My sisters love it because we went to
4:25
the mall near our house. There's this bungee jump thing inside the mall
4:30
I gave one to my grandson, Jack. It's in our backyard. You wanna go over there
4:35
That would be great, we should. We will go. All right. We will go and you will jump
4:40
Oh, I'm definitely getting Paul on the bungee. There's no trying, it's definite
4:44
But I can tell you right now, it ain't a pretty sight. We're gonna bungee
4:50
We're doing like the jumps and we get off and these girls come over and they go, are you a couther
4:55
They're like screaming and my sisters are laughing hysterically. A girl asks them, so what's it like being Kenton's sisters
5:01
And they're like, he's my brother. He's just as annoying as yours. Dump those raisins in here, baby
5:08
You got it. All right grab those nuts darling You got it How much do you want to dump Oh I wouldn be opposed to like a cup to start with All right let do it
5:20
I love, I love, love, love, love, love nuts in my cookies
5:25
Especially pecans. Perfect. There we go. Well, you know, I thought she would be nice, and she was nicer
5:33
That was my very first impression. I feel like I'm a member of family, and I think it's ditto for her
5:38
One thing that's so important about baking cookies, it's important that they're all the same size
5:45
Yes. Because you want them to finish off baking at the same time
5:49
Okay. So we want to make sure that we're scooping the same level out
5:55
So how about like that? That sounds good. Just filling it in scoop. Perfect
6:03
We make a great team. We do. We need to do this more often. Let's get these in the oven
6:08
Okay. Let's put them in this oven. All righty. 350 for 10 to 12 minutes
6:14
Of course. Coming up, this is over-the-moon beautiful. Thank you. And later, we're going outside to jump
6:23
Oh, God, it won't fit! What kid doesn't love pizza
6:35
Well, I love pizza, so I don't know who doesn't. That's right. So I thought I would make you some pizza
6:41
We're going to have us a hearty vegetable pizza. Well, honey, get our crust out of the oven for us
6:48
And I'm going to start slicing up our veggies. I'm just using a store-bought dough that I rolled out and pre-baked
6:56
And I'm going to saute off our veggies. Oh, that sounds delicious
7:00
You know pizza, it cooks quickly. It does, it does. So we don't want just some raw vegetables sitting up there for you
7:08
So if you would take your grater and come down here to the fridge
7:12
get out the Parmesan and the mozzarella. Okay. That's it. And you just grate us some of those
7:21
and I've got the onion, squash, zucchinis. Be as great as I know you are
7:29
That was a good one, wasn't it? That was a really good one
7:33
You're really great. It's great because I've gotten to learn from her, gotten tips
7:38
I think it's going to show kids my age that you can have fun in the kitchen
7:42
as well as, you know, parents out there, you can have fun with your kids in the kitchen
7:46
Doesn't it smell good? There's nothing like onions and garlic cooking in the kitchen
7:52
You're speaking my language. Yes. All right, I'm going to move that back until I get these yellow summer squash and zucchini
8:00
Sounds good. I'm gonna slice this thin, Kenton Okay I'm ready to get this over with, though
8:08
Because I want to get you on the jumper I can't wait
8:13
Alright, this squash is looking good
8:25
Alright, now I'm ready to put this back on the fire now Okay
8:29
Just great. Just great. All righty. I've got us some Roma tomatoes
8:35
Mm. And, you know, I don't think I'm going to put those in our skillet
8:40
How am I doing with this mozzarella here? You're doing... Great. Great. Would you rather have a sun-dried tomato or would you rather have a ranch dressing base
8:53
Maybe ranch since it's all this vegetable. Okay. I completely forgot about having a marinara sauce ready
9:04
I'm going to work us up something, kitten. Don't you worry about it
9:08
I'm excited now. All right. I got some cream cheese here. I found some sour cream
9:13
I've got a bottle dressing. It was amazing to just watch her, like, just pull everything together and just suddenly
9:18
whip it right up. You know, that just sort of shows her genius with cooking. Just like, boom, you're done
9:23
I have made lots of afternoon snacks over the years, honey, because my two boys would come in from school just starved
9:35
So here comes that seasoning. Now we've got a half a cup of ranch dressing
9:40
an eight-ounce package of cream cheese, and about a half a cup of sour cream
9:45
Kenton, walk that salt and pepper down to me, please. All righty
9:50
I'm going to try to cream this up. This is expertise right here
9:56
I hope it's edible. Alrighty. So, what we're gonna do is take our crust
10:06
and we're gonna put our marinara on it. Marinara holla. Yes
10:18
Alright. That looks good. We just gonna have a white marinara instead of a red I maybe taught him that there more than one way to skin a cat You know you can come up with some pretty good things in the kitchen quite by accident
10:36
All right, you want to help me? I would love to. Do the pizza
10:40
I'm just going to kind of distribute. Beautiful, beautiful. And let's get all that onion
10:47
All right, just keep piling it on, honey. Okay. We're going to have us a hearty vegetable pizza
10:54
Oh, yeah. My stomach's growling. Oh, mine's been growling since the minute you started sautéing the vegetables
11:00
I'm sorry. It just looks so good. I'm going to put our basil on
11:06
Ooh, basil. Do you love basil? Mm-hmm. Beautiful. Is it great? It's great
11:15
Yum, yum. Okey-dokey. Oh, that looks delicious. So I'd say 450. 450
11:22
Eight minutes. Eight minutes. Put it in, baby All righty Coming up
11:30
Look at our marinara Oh, look at it running out You love fish fingers
11:35
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm To the moon, kitten Whoa! Whoa! All right, pizza
11:50
Yes, this is the time of truth. Well, let's see. Take him out
11:59
Looks good so far. Yeah. Fabulous. You hold that pan and I'll kind of coach him onto the..
12:08
That was skill right there. Wasn't that skill? That was skill. All right, you want to cut or you want me to cut
12:14
Ladies first. Okey-doke. Look. Look at our marinara. Oh, look at it running out
12:23
Juicy. Yes, it's so juicy. See, I mean, I wish I would come home to these when I was in elementary school
12:29
Well, honey, if you lived with Granny Paula, you could. So when do you want to move in
12:35
Next week? How's next week? I'll have your room ready. I'm going to have to let it cool a minute, though
12:45
It's really good. Please don't burn your mouth. I'm going to sit mine right here while it cools
12:52
I thought that another great afternoon snack for you would be like fish fingers
12:58
Mmm. Do you love group of fingers? Oh, yes, I do. All right, well, that's what I'm going to fix for you, baby
13:03
That's going to be great. If you would, put a cup and a half of flour
13:08
Okay. Wow. It's good. Experimenting in the kitchen
13:18
Really good. And I'm going to come over here and I'm going to eyeball just some buttermilk in here
13:26
Okay. We're going to go from dry to wet to dry. Okay
13:31
Or from dry to wet to pizza. All right. I got us some nice, beautiful grouper filets, and I'm just going to cut this in strips
13:42
We want one and a half? Yeah, one and a half a deal, half of mustard, a third of a cup of cornstarch, and a teaspoon of salt
13:54
While you're doing that, I'm just going to give my hands a quick wash
13:58
I am going to be the most envious old lady in Savannah, Georgia
14:05
Maybe Georgia, maybe the country. Why so? Because when they find out I was with you, a hot teen throb
14:14
Don't you think he's a teen heartthrob? I can just hear all the young girls here in Savannah
14:21
seeing him and just squealing and screaming. All right, so how much of this
14:28
Oh, I'm sorry, a third of a cup. All right. All right, I'm going to put just a little salt on this fish
14:36
Because to me, one of the secrets to good fish is it's got to be salty enough
14:41
Mm-hmm. All right, now I've got our deep fryer. or you're going to get to play in my deep fryer
14:46
Yes! Come on up here. Okay. All right, so we're going to do..
14:52
You know what? Let's do it this way. All righty. All right, so we'll do it dry, wet, and then dry again
15:01
You and I need to change jobs, because don't you want to be the one to drop it in the fryer
15:06
Yes! I'm just going to go, okay, Mom, here's the deal. We're going to cut a hole in the island in our kitchen
15:11
and we're going to put a deep fryer in there. I think you're going to enjoy it, and she'll just be like, as long as I get to eat
15:17
And probably fry them for three or four minutes. And once you drop them, you can kind of just shake your basket, you know, to make sure they're moving
15:25
Oh, of course. So shake it like this. Shake it like that, baby
15:34
Shake it up. All right. I making this tartar sauce so quickly You know it seems like I didn do a whole bunch of planning today but you know that the way sometimes things turn out best
15:52
I'm starting with about a half a cup of grated onion. I'm using some dill relish
15:57
Okay. Some mayonnaise. The secret to good tartar sauce is you want mainly pickles and onions
16:07
Okay. You know, you don't want a whole bunch of mayonnaise. Look, that's a perfect consistency right there
16:14
All right. And you see how simple it was? Chop it right up
16:19
A little salt. A little pepper. Okay, okay. And I'm ready. Are you
16:27
Oh, I'm ready. No, you're not, baby. Your fish are still frying
16:32
You got me there. A little lemon juice. Give it a bit more of a sour taste
16:37
tart. Tart. Tart. Tart's a good word. I'm gonna just peek. How's that? They're looking good
16:46
Shake, shake, shake. Shake, shake, shake, shake. Shake your basket. They look fabulous. Fabulous. Fabulous. Fabulous. Fabulous
17:00
Look at that beautiful grouper meat. Mmm. I could eat a ton of these
17:14
Mmm, mmm, mmm. I'm a huge fan of fish. That's like the only meat that I eat, and the grouper is..
17:20
Well, let's just say I'm gonna get a group together, and we're going to very much enjoy the grouper fish sticks
17:26
Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm. Mm-hmm. Coming up
17:31
I'm going to show you how we make our fresh lemonade. Mm-hmm
17:35
And later? Kitten. Go kitten. Woo. Your turn. You think? Mm-hmm. Okay, my dumpling
17:50
So we get to do lemonade. Yeah, I'm going to show you how we make our fresh lemonade down at the Lady and Sons
17:56
All right. Now, I've got us a simple syrup made over here. What I need for you to do, I had started squeezing the lemons
18:04
Okay. But if you'd just help me finish. We're just going to need the juice of 12 lemons
18:09
and I'm going to drop a little fresh mint into our pitcher. All right
18:17
Now, I like the pulp. As do I. So I'm just going to dump the juice in with our simple syrup and get us up some ice
18:29
All right. I'm just going to pour this back into here. So all you have to do now, darling, is pour that over our ice
18:38
All righty. And our cookies are out of the oven. And they're looking fine
18:45
I love this particular recipe for oatmeal cookies because, you know, we didn't put any bacon powder in it
18:53
We just put soda. So look, it's almost like a lace cookie
18:58
Ooh. See how thin. Why, thank you. We're going outside to jump
19:04
Oh, yeah. But in the meantime. Cheers. Cheers. I've had a ball cooking with you
19:12
I've had a ball cooking with you. You know, because you're used to, you know, the very thick cookie, but this was, you know, nice and thin
19:22
but it was actually just as chewier, if not more, than normal oatmeal cookies
19:26
All of them. I'm watering up. I'm sorry. Mmm. Good ale. I love spending time in the kitchen
19:36
I love having people with me in the kitchen. And being there with Paula was just sort of surreal for me
19:42
Outside, boy. Woo! I'm gonna buckle you up. To the moon, kid
19:52
Whoa! I didn't know the bungee jump was gonna be that. I mean, I was expecting fun, but it was funner
20:03
I had a ball with him. You know, technically, I should have a grandchild that age
20:09
Johnny was a slow learner. Oh, God, it won't fit! It's like those seatbelts on the airplane
20:17
You just pray it's going to meet. Yes! You're doing it! I got her bungee jump
20:27
Didn't I tell you that I would get her to bungee jump? and look at her. She did a good bungee jump
20:32
Oh! Oh! I did it! Well, let me tell y'all something
20:42
Kenton had a ball on that jumper. I don't know about Guinea. But he had a good time
20:48
It was a winner. I've had an amazing time. I got to meet my hero
20:53
and now I have a new member to the family. Cheers. Cheers
