I'm a Georgia guy, so I grew up eating lots and lots of collard greens
0:07
I really like them, and people are getting more and more into their greens, kale and collards and mustard greens and things like that
0:14
But what can really be, you know, kind of a chore is to get rid of the stems in here
0:19
Even though that can be the nutrient superhighway in a lot of vegetables
0:23
if you get a bowl full of stemmy collard greens, you're not real happy about it. So I'm going to show you three different ways to destem a collard green
0:30
The first one is to take your chef's knife and just run right down the stem and just kind of chop that leaf off
0:38
That's one way to do it. Another way to do it would be to take three of your broad leaves and lay them out and simply slice down the stalks to get to your greens
0:54
That's way number two. But see that way I don really love it so much because you still end up having to come back and run your hands down the stalk which is the third old fashioned way of stemming collard greens is people just pull it through and rip that leaf
1:10
off. This is probably the quickest, but my least favorite way to do it. So anyhow, that's
1:20
three different ways to stem the greens. Now once you get your greens stemmed, simply bunch
1:27
them up and roll them together and just a nice chiffonade to your greens and to whatever size
1:38
you'd like. I like them a little bit smaller cut. So now all you need is a big pot of boiling water
1:47
some salt and pepper, and some pepper vinegar on the side and you can have collard greens
1:51
tonight. That's three different ways to stem your greens. you
